  1. My mother died when I was 19. I too count the years by the anniversary of her passing (which is New Year's Eve). It's been a little more than 20 years and it's still hard. I'm sure she'd be happy that I chose to get the band, to help me lead a healthy life.

  2. My family as well as my church family, have been supportive. However, I chose to not tell people at work. It kind of sucks now, because everyone's like "How are you doing it?" and I'm just tell them exercise and I had to change how I eat. Which, is technically true, they just don't know it's because I have band. I've almost slipped up a couple times and told people, but have remembered just in time. The only people I told at work were the nurse (just in case) and my boss, who is so super cool, that he said he'd take my secret to his grave. I loved that.

I don't understand why some people aren't supportive, but just remember you're doing it for yourself. I'm so happy I got the band. It's a process, the band doesn't work by itself, you still have to work at it.

    Good luck to you.

  3. Thats awesome. Proud of you... and envious! I weigh 200 and Im a size 12. I do the P90X series and cardio 5 days a week. I havent lost anything in 2 months. Can you tell me what your diet is like.? Do you get stuck? Sick? I had some fluid taken out because of everything getting stuck and now Im able to eat again. I dont know what to do. Advise? You seem to be doing really well

Keely - I pretty much can eat anything. I don't like eating lettuce or noodles anymore. Apparently I have had some 'stuck episodes', but they're not painful. I'm going to concentrate on when they happen, so I can figure out what I'm doing. I haven't gotten sick (knock on wood), but I did feel a little nauseous this afternoon. I had a fill this morning and it's the first time I've had any kind of nausea. I really try to stick to eating the 3/4 - 1 cup of food. It's so hard. The lady that does my fills says I should try to do 3/4 cup which I haven't been able to do, but now maybe that will work for me after this fill. I do not deny myself a certain kind of food if I want it. Like, for example, I got a JavaChiller from Sonic tonight. It was sooo good and awesome, since I'm on liquid tonight. The PA said I could have whatever I would be able to normally drink through a straw.

Good luck to you and feel free to message me. Take care.

  4. Congratulations! That is so awesome. My goal is to be 150lbs. I'm 35lbs away. I've made the committment to get there, too! I know which machine you're talking about in the gym. It's called the captains chair. I started out not being able to do but one. Now, I can say I can do 3 sets of 15,12, and then 10. You're just like me...shopping at the thrift store. I'm wearing a skirt right now that everyone is raving about. I got it at the thrift store for $2!!!! I love shopping now.

I just want to tell you to keep up the great work and enjoy the changes!

Meekie - Thanks. Wow, you're close to your goal. Keep it up. Sounds like you're enjoying the changes also. I'm enjoying wearing wearing clothes now and trying to look cute. Feel free to message me. Take care.

  5. I got pretty nervous before my surgery also. Pain after surgery, but not really any worse than when I had emergency gall-bladder surgery. The surgery is well worth it. For me, the potential benefits were too great not to have it. Good luck to you.

  6. Hang in there. I know I constantly think about how much time I have between meals. Not because I'm hungry, but because I am concentrating on not eating too early. I have medication that I have to take an hour before I eat in the morning and then meds I take when I go to bed. I have a medication for PCOS, that I don't take, because the pills are too big. I called the pharmacy and they said it would be okay to crush these pills, but I keep forgetting and besides, I'd have to add it to applesauce. I guess a little applesauce in the afternoon between meals wouldn't hurt.

By the way, I know I didn't think a lot about how my husband was going to deal with our difference in eating. It's gone pretty good. He eats the same amount as he normally does and doesn't give me a hard time about how I have to eat. He actually feels bad that I have to chew so much and he finds himself unconsciously chewing his foor more also!

Anyhow, like I said. hang in there. Feel free to message me, if you'd like.

  7. You do not have to be a runner. I have lost 130 lbs and never went into any gym and never ran a step (well I do chase a 3 yr old). I don't walk really either (do to other medical conditions (shin splints, sprained spine, back issues). My form of exercise is in the pool..I use water resistance weights and I swim. My surgeon also believes that walking or swimming are the best forms of exercise. With the swimming there was less if any pressure on my joints so I actually felt better after being in the water and I got a work out. It worked for me so don't say "it is just walking" like it is bad..it is one of the best things you can be doing!!! Take care.

    Thanks. Good luck to you.

  8. You can do it. It is a journey. I got banded on 09/08/10 and have now finally gotten to the 40 lb mark. I see on the post-op forum, that some people only lose a little in the same amount of time that someone else might lose alot. Everyone's different.

I've been lucky and haven't had problems with any food.

My struggle is mentally, with telling myself to stop eating at 1 cup of food.

    Good luck to you.
