March 2022 Surgery Buddies
If you didn’t know this (I didn’t) your doctor should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an out patient. I was worried I would have to go back to hospital. Well technically I did go back to the building but to a different part

Cravings
I like quest protein chips and candy bites for my sweet and salty cravings. They are lower in calories than the real deal and they have a little protein in them as well to fill you up. Also if you can eat just a little bit of chocolate and be fine hersheys makes zero sugar candies that taste almost like The regular ones.

Connect with Low(er) bmi kids
Hello. I had a BMI of 35, surgery in South Florida. insurance paid, told my husband and one friend who were both totally supportive. I decided to do the surgery when i tried my last diet and my knees started to hurt with exercise. I realized any more weight and it was going to snowball out of control because I couldn’t even walk on treadmill without joint pain and I have been gaining at least five pounds a year on average for over ten years.

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
That really does work. I had a malignant melanoma and was super anxious and one of the nurses I came across told me to start a binder keeping all my scans and records, appointments, etc all organized. Basically focus on what you CAN control. Making plans for what you need post op is doing exactly that. It helped ease my Anxiety quite a bit.

Can you post what your food intake looks like over the course of the day? Dec, Jan, Feb surgeries
I am a year out so I eat more at a time than I did when I was three months out but I eat on the same schedule. I eat breakfast at 9, lunch at 12, snack at 3, dinner at 6 And snack at 9. That way I am eating every three hours. And yes i do feel hungry in between but usually I am able to wait the hour and a half or whatever since I know what time I will be eating next.

Is it the sweetness of the shakes that gets you? If so it bothered me too and the things I was able to tolorate were premiere protein drinks. Their clear protein drink and the caffe latte (which has caffeine). I hope this helps.

My husband doesn't want me to have surgery
I am so glad he came around for you and that you posted an update to let us know how you are doing. I guess driving you crazy with support is better than sabotagong you which I have heard of other spouses doing. Best of luck to you both.

Traveling 11 weeks post-op
I wouldn’t have had any issues at 3 months out with energy or otherwise. It may take a little planning to get what you need to eat though overseas.

How many tacos one year out?
Cool. I will save this and try it when my nephews come to visit. They will love it I’m sure. Thank you.

How many tacos one year out?
I will have to make it when we will be having people over because my husband won’t eat it and I eat so little. What setting would I want to use?

How many tacos one year out?
Are they super spicy? I don’t really like spicy.

How many tacos one year out?
I do have an instapot but I must admit I only know how to steam in it. I haven’t played around with it yet.

Does anyone know how the chat rooms worked? Did someone pick topics each Day or something? What types of topics were discussed??

Chat Room
There isn’t a chat room anymore. I wish they would bring it back though. I wasn’t here when it was here but I am on here often and a chat room sounds cool.

Food Before and After Photos
I was 220 on surgery day (35 BMI to start) and I am the same way. Maybe they didn’t think we needed the smaller pouches?? I have been able to eat more at every given stage than expected. I am a year out now and Am 5 pounds from normal BMI though and I don’t really exercise or I would be at normal range I’m sure. So it can be done. You just have to measure and stick to the plan. I have been at a normal serving size for a while now though.

Excess skin after WLS
The NP at my clinic told me that with my BMI being low and my age that I shouldn’t have alot. She said not to expect to have a six pack but not enough excess skin that it would cause any medical issues for sure. In other words insurance wasn’t gonna pay to remove it because at my BMI I wouldn’t have enough. But I guess I’ve got genetics on My side. My guess is if I lost much more I would have some though because this is the weight I always got down to on diets. Never smaller.

7 weeks post surgery
Congrats on your surgery. Sorry that you have struggled a bit. I didn’t have any calorie goal that early out. Although I think 600-800 seems like what I have read of others about that stage that did have goals. The head hunger is real and it doesn’t seem to go away for me. I snack on pickles when I have head hunger. Also salty but lower calories.

how does sleeve gastrectomy affect your appetite?
For the majority of us the hunger hormones go away and we do not feel hungry for a while post op. Not real hunger anyways. Some of us realize post op that we have some disordered eating issues and we have head hunger (boredom or emotional eating) which you will still crave things but you can tell the difference by WHAT you are craving. If you just want anything to eat even your least favorite vegetable you are truly hungry but if you are craving chocolate it’s head hunger. I have struggled post op because of the head hunger but it’s still easier to make better food choices than any diet I have been on. I am one year post op and 5 pounds above a “normal” bmi. My hunger hormones have returned and it’s getting that much harder but I am sticking to it. I have been searching out and trying different salads at different places and have learned that i like a variety of dressings that i never tried before. I study the nutritional stuff online for restaurants and ask for tips of what’s good and where on here so that i can still go out and stay on plan. The process works and the surgery itself is a huge component but I believe that also huge parts of the process are the nutritionist, psychiatrist, and support on here or locally.

new here and have a few questions
1. What does everyone experience when they say "i cant do (insert food here)".. how do you know when you cant tolerate a food? I ask because a few people I talked to always just say "i felt like i was dying" and that TERRIFIED me so now im so nervous to even eat a darn thing. -Try to relax and just try one new food at a time, slowly, as your plan dictates I didn’t have any foods that didn’t agree with me I can eat anything I ate pre surgery 2. my sheet says to do 3 meals a day but I can add a snack. How long between meals and when do I do the snack? -I have two snacks a day and I eat at 9-12-3-6-9 (breakfast at 9, lunch at 12, snack at 3, dinner at 6 and snack at 9) that way I am eating every 3 hours. This has worked for me but you will have to tweak it to fit your lifestyle and how many snacks you do 3. Why am I so hungry and is there anything I can do to curb my appetite? I want to eat more mashed potatoes but I am only allowed 2 tsp a meal which is so small lol. -Some people say that warm tea helps them with the hunger. I didn’t have real hunger, just head hunger and that you just have to try to ignore. You can tell the difference because real hunger you could eat anything. You are just starving while head hunger you usually crave something specific. More time than not it something you really shouldn’t be eating.
