  1. I'm a daily weigher.. but I don't worry about my daily or even weekly fluctuations... while I was on my 15 week preoperative VLCD I gained all the time.. on 800 calories a day. It's completely NORMAL.. I also stalled for nearly three weeks... also completely NORMAL. For a lot of people when you lose weight really fast while in ketosis, your body regains a bit because it may be re-establishing its glycogen stores. Nothing wrong with weighing in daily, but don't get bothered by fluctuations. Evaluate your weight loss on a MONTHLY basis... and even then remember that some months will be better than others.
  2. I did not have Dr. Aceves, but seriously... he's one of the best bariatric surgeons out there. Go to the Mexico section of this board and there are many here who will be happy to share their experiences first hand.
  3. My doctor (also mexican) prescribed the same thing except in pill form (I've been swallowing pills since the day after surgery)He said that since I'm prone to being "yeasty" I could start taking probiotic beads the day before I complete my antibiotic cycle, hopefully preventing any problems with yeast in the first place.
  4. I researched this a lot before deciding to have this surgery too. Even with RNY patients their "pouch" does not stretch, it's the connection between the pouch and the intestine that stretches and the food goes too quickly into the intestine. I have a good friend who had RNY years ago and could eat HUGE portions just a few years after surgery. Her pouch was not stretched, but rather the connection between her pouch and intestine was too relaxed and was going everything was going straight into her intestine and the upper part of her intestine was acting like a huge stomach! With VSG, this isn't a problem because our plumbing is not rerouted so we are left with our original connections which will remain in good working order.. so VSG'rs don't have to worry about this issue.
  5. Good for you for getting this exercise under your belt before surgery. I'm trying to do the same they say it will really help us with our recovery!

On my paperwork, citrus is the last thing added at I think 4 months out. Which stinks because I like to drink a lemon-kale-cucumber juice that tastes like lemonade to me.. without the lemon, it just tastes like lawn clippings. So I'm drinking up now before my surgery since i t will be a long time for me until I can have lemon again!
  7. A poached pear sounds REALLY nice right now.
  8. Congratulations. I'm pre-sleeve and an avid green juicer and am hoping it will be a good fit for the sleeve (I'm actually enjoying a mean green right now!) I'd love to hear more about how juicing fits into your sleeved diet, the composition of your juices, etc. I look forward to your update.
  9. You GOT this! The first few days are rough, but once you reach day 3 or 4 you'll feel energized and you'll feel almost like you've come out of a fog. The BEAUTIFUL thing about these preop diets is that after the first few days the hunger does subside substantially.
  10. many people gain back 10-20 before finally plateauing at their new weight. I wonder if this is why he wants you to get down more, to give you more wiggle room?
  11. Excess skin is based on genetics more than any other factor.. hopefully your mom blessed you with her elasticity in the skin gene.... mine did NOT. My boobs were saggy from the day they grew in and I've had a little pannus since age 11! Even my 25 year old 119 pound sister who has NEVER been fat has BAT WINGS! Thank GOD for the nip and tuck!
  12. Mine said to wait until at least a year out., but I've heard some say as soon as three months out. Also my preop paperwork says the sleeve makes your tolerance even less..
  13. I loved reading your entry. Thank you so much for sharing.
  14. Damn. That sucks. Sorry for that. I would definitely get a second opinion AND of course continue as you are trying to lose as much weight as you can before surgery. Honestly even if a different doctor told you the same thing but in a more compassionate way, I'd go with him instead. I don't know that I'd want to go to a doctor with zero compassion. BTW, you're doing a great job losing weight. Way to Go!!!
  15. I hate to break this to you sweetie,,,, but you no longer need to be shopping at WomenWithin! Your next shopping trip will be in the "regular" woman's section of your favorite department store!
  16. I'm on day 3 of a 12 week VLCD (under 800 calories per day) I can have 3 shakes, four if I need it. I can sub one shake for four ounces of plain fish and a salad with dark greens and low carb veggies and no dressing. I think I'm going to stick with just the shakes for the first month and then start doing the fish week 5... that will give me something to look forward to. Anyway. I need to lose 40 pounds by surgery but I'm hoping it's 50! We can DO THIS!

OK, not even attempting to look good in these photos. No, I don't go out in clothes this tight, but I wanted to "show it all" without getting nekkid ;-)
  18. Well today is the last day I will eat for a very long time. I'm doing 90 days VLCD prior to my surgery in March. I'm hoping to lose 30-40 pounds during the next three months to make my surgery go smoother and have fewer worries. Today I did eat more than usual, but I didn't "pig out" so I'm quite pleased with myself. I ate some of the things that I've been wanting for a WHILE but had been telling myself I could have later. I knew if I didn't eat them now, it would be bothering me for the next several months. So I ate an order of 5 small chicken wing pieces (not five whole wings, but 5 of the little half wing pieces) I could have eaten two dozen of them, but I figured I'd try to exercise some moderation. I had a HUGE salad with tons of fresh vegetables. A few cookies that we started carrying in the store two weeks ago that I had been resisting., a 50 cent bag of Doritos, a large coffee and a half pack of mini donettes (so that's three mini doughnuts for those of you keeping track), a big juicy granny smith apple, two oranges, a 40 calorie slim jim, and a a fun size Charleston chew. .. Now that I say it all it sounds like a LOT, but trust me, I could have done far FAR worse. .... I really REALLY want to go to the pizza place and order two orders of garlic knots and just eat them all myself, BUT I'm going to resist because I know that that will just make me feel really REALLY sick so Instead I'll have another salad for dinner and call it a day..... Tomorrow starts an 800 calorie liquid diet for three and a half months, then surgery, then post op diet. Starting the VLCD tomorrow really makes this whole thing finally seem real!
  19. Makes total sense! I set my goal at 200... I know it's still obese but I know I'll feel great at that weight since it's 30 pounds LESS than my lowest adult weight! Anything beyond that is gravy. I have not weighed less than 200 since 8th grade so I can't even wrap my mind around weighing the 145 that I'm "supposed" to weigh.
