If we can't take NSAIDS, then what can we take?
The AMAZING amount of NSAIDs that you have to take to develop an ulcer in that short of a period of time is WAY more than a relatively non-invasive surgical recovery. Yes, everyone is different. Every person can develop it differently. Believe me, having my dad as a doctor, my mom as a head nurse, tons of friends who are nurses, and me being in pre-med for so long makes you learn a thing or two. Anyway, for something like that to develop, you would have to take upwards of 800mg t.i.d for AT LEAST 6 months on a fairly normal person. Keeping in mind that that is VERY optimistic time-wise. 2400mg/day is the MAXIMUM prescription dosage that you'll ever see and even though that's for SHORT duration uses only, they are more worried about eventual renal issues than GI, depending on the patient. The OTC max dosage is 1800mg/day, so they knock down what they feel is safe for the patient to take without any expected side effects. If you find someone who wants to take ibuprofen or naprosyn EVERY DAY and higher dosages just for the fun of it, I'm FULLY with you. It will EVENTUALLY start to take everything down, however, for a pretty short recovery or a sore knee once in a while, a little 'profen never hurt nobody. lol. I hope you don't think I was taking shots at you. I really respect your choice to be an RN and I actually have a lot of friends who either are or are in school to get an BSN, in fact you're probably smarter because you don't have to pay malpractice insurance. lol. This is actually just one of those things that I've been tossing around in my head lately anyway and it JUST happened to come up in a family discussion. Oh, and this is ignoring my recovery with the 400mg bid stint of advil, by the way. haha.

Under 30 Spoiled Brats!!
Ooooookay, I was going to keep my mouth shut, but now you've just offended tooooo many people with this one missy! Juuuuuuuuust kidding. I was born in 84 and I'm not going to lie to you, I have YET to hear a halfway decent song that came out from 1980 to 1996ish. Crappy fashion, crappy music, crappy lyrics...come on. So, in conclusion, my generation's music sucked. Ohhhhh yeah. Eeeeevery other generation had better music than mine. Oh yeah, and most of those points at the beginning were my life story! Trying to tell me that I don't know crap! ha! Old fogies... mmmph.

Anyone having less bowel movement
As Jacqui said: Less in, Less out. It's completely normal. Nothing to worry about. If you have a lot of constipation, up the fiber in your diet.

What is this discomfort?
I think I know what it is, but do yourself a favor and talk to your surgeon and describe it the same way.

I still feel "fat"!
I couldn't agree more with everyone. I'll admit, I was a bit "optimistic" on my weight before the surgery, but a few months ago I went to Abercrombie and I fit into the shirt that I liked. It BLEW my socks off. haha. It'll all get better over time, too. :scared2:

Newbie with some questions
You'll come to find that EVERYONE is different. I can eat small amounts of bread and red meat just fine, but I know a lot of people who can't even think about the stuff. Suggestion for Protein are anything Muscle Milk, Isopure, EAS, and the generic stuff they have at GNC, aside from the chocolate. Enjoy!

Sushi?
My suggestion is to learn to love sashimi. Tasty and also REALLY good for you!

Coffee good/ bad effects on banded
Every now and again, I'll take down the skinny iced caffe mocha, but RARELY. I do like coffee, but I'm not HUGE into it. Tea however, is nummy.

A thread for Single Bandsters
Okay, so I managed to land a BEAUTIFUL girlfriend earlier tonight! YAY! She and I have been seeing each other for a month and a half-ish. It's been really amazing. We met on the EHarmony bit and it's been great. When we were talking on the phone, I decided to bring up the possibility of the boyfriend/girlfriend thing. She was pretty enthusiastic about it. I can't tell you how happy I am. YAY! haha.

Neveragain... where are you?
Shockingly, I'm still here. I'm down to right around 211, but I think tonight may have hurt a little. 5 pieces of pizza and right around 4-5 shots-ish of spiced rum. I don't know what it is lately, but I've had more alcohol in the past two weeks than I've had in the past year. Weird, for sure. Oh well. It's not like I plan on maintaining this and yes, I'm still a bit tipsy. ha! I hope you're doing well! I'm going to head up to phoenix pretty soon to see/meet my new girlfriend's parents for the first time. I'll let everyone know when, if we want to get out to lunch or something.

working out for men
I've got 3-4 days of cardio and 3 days of lifting, but that's all at the moment. I'd love to get myself on a soccer team or something. Meh. We'll see.

question for runners
3-4 times a week is the best. Just keep building yourself up. The more you push yourself, the more you will improve. Keeping in mind that if you push yourself too hard, you'll injure yourself. Good luck!

Has anyone asked you if your on drugs?
I know, I know. Telling someone that you put a band around the top of your stomach is embarrassing, but I promise that you'll live. Some people will give you crap for doing it, but f*** them. Your heart, pancreas, brain, etc. will thank you later.

Where to buy sashimi fish?
Where would one go to buy fish that is safe to make sashimi out of? I'm going to throw a little dinner party with an asian menu, so I wanted to know if anyone had any knowledge. haha. I've heard you could get it at costco, but I was just curious if anyone knew anything more. Thanks!!!

Tucson meetup? (Again, I know!)
As much as I would love having to drive up to Phoenix with my double vision (thank my incredible stupidity for wrecking the bike. haha) to see everyone, I'm going to juuuuuuuuuuuust stick around here. Is anyone interested in doing this some evening, preferably a Tues, Thurs, or Fri by chance?

I'm going to break this down to simple for you: pizza & pancakes = Bad monkey

Artificial Sweetners!
Good lord...yet another retarded study. Ignore it. MOST of those are glucose with a bunch of sugar alcohol's attached to it. Your body gets confused because it doesn't know what it is, so it sends it down the intestine to be excreted. Show me a study that is reputable and THEN we'll talk. (Not pointed towards you. haha)

Does anyone know how many calaries are in these foods?

Homemade Protein Bars
If only I could make one at home...that would be amazing. lol.

Sick and dealing with nausea
If you go to your doctor, you may be able to convince him to give you an anti-nausea medication, but if not, I'd try either ginger or that activated charcoal stuff. It generally tends to work.
