  1. Yep, I was always the fat kid. lol. No story about that. Just the truth.
  2. I've never heard anything like that... I really really doubt that's at all possible. See there's four types of stones. Calcium, uric acid, struvite, and cystine. Usually, you see struvites with UTIs. So when you pass it, get it tested for what it is. I know that sounds disgusting, but you need to do it. Oh, and I passed a uric acid stone a week ago. Yeah, thaaaaat sucked. Whatever you do, drink a SHITLOAD of Water and try to stay away from soda. It'll take less time to pass.
  3. I like the MetRx Metamosyn Protein if you take protein before you work out. Any of their proteins aren't too bad. I like the vanilla and chocolate ones better an any other powder. If you don't mind buying shakes, my favorite BY FAR is Muscle Milk. Any of their flavors are fantastic. Honestly, I tried unjury and I don't like it. Oh, and I have yet to find a protein that doesn't add a smell or taste. I'm sure someone has, though.
  4. Your doctor is an idiot. Well, not an idiot, but entirely too careful. Naprosyn and ibuprofen are both NSAIDs. Both of them are just fine. If you have surgery, you might wait a week to two weeks. Technically, you don't have to. The reason why doctors are somewhat careful about prescribing NSAIDs is that they all have blood thinning properties. It is incredibly mild, though. ^Applicable in MOST situations, but not all^ Acetominophin can take the liver whereas ibuprofen can take the kidney if they are overdosed, by the way.
  5. Protein IS high in calories, but it takes more calories to burn them, too. SO! You can eat more because of the calories used to break it down. :tongue2: I would say no, and if they did, steer clear. I could be wrong. I never saw any in any of our stores nor have I been able to find any anyway. I try to stay away from lots of soy protein, but I do drink a little of it. As much as I would love to risk getting man breasts, I'm good where I am. Oh, and as a woman, you should look into it more so than I. I used to really like chocolate, but now I can't stand it. I really like mixing the fruit ones. MMMMMMMM. Yummy. Seriously, you're going to find that some that you like, other people hate. Just try different ones. See what you like. Start with the generic GNC ones. They're not bad at all, in fact, those are the ones that I generally use anyway.
  6. While I agree that that wouldn't hurt, my point was that life is just one more thing that, as obese people, we have to deal with and that we should just learn how to manage. If we don't know how to get over things that bother us, we're going to fail in life. That also means all of the things that question our self-confidence and/or in social interaction. PLEASE don't take this as I'm poking or prodding at you. In no way, shape or form am I trying to do that.
  7. Okay, okay, look. There are some bastard people out there who are so self-absorbed that anyone who isn't skinny or athletically built is just annoying sewage, but come on. Is there REALLY a reason to complain about it? We have the rights and abilities of most people, yet there's so much complaining about it. Bluntly, people, life happens, get over it. Make no mistake, I was ALWAYS the fat kid growing up, so I didn't just start eating to much and pack on the pounds. There were times where I was discriminated against, but how do you think I learned about life what I know now? How do you think I know how to handle certain situations to get the benefit of the doubt? I don't mean to sound like I'm criticizing anyone. If there's anything I've learned after my accident, it's that life happens and then, for who knows why, it goes on. So, take it for what you will.
  8. Okay, here's how it goes: Whey and casein both come from milk. They are the fast acting Proteins that are good for post-workout. Soy is from the soybean plant. It's a slower acting Protein, so it's good for recovery shakes later in the day or before bed. A little note for guys: Soy protein tends to increase estrogen because of the chemical makeup. Hello gynocomastia (man breasts). That's NOT to say stay away from it. It takes a LOT over a period of time to do that, but the estrogen will still rise. A little note for girls: Soy has been proven over and over to be GREAT for pre and post menopausal women. It's been linked to helping prevent cervical cancer among tons of other health benefits. No, I didn't just look this up. You can thank the years I spent working for GNC. lol
  9. He's not wrong about that. Shakes are good for protein, but they're not good to keep you full.
  10. As long as you can mentally see the difference between head hunger and real hunger, you'll notice that it does help a bit.
  11. To you, I say good luck. :cursing: Oh, and you're right. LBT rocks. haha.
  12. I've had my band for 11 months. Seriously, some of the time I've had it, it was a huge pain in the arse. When I got on the scale and it said 220, I freaked out. I haven't been that weight since middle school... All of the crap that you go through is worth it in the end if you just stick with it and do what you're supposed to. Plain and simple.
  13. Any stomach or intestinal pain or discomfort? Is EVERYTHING that's dairy doing that? If you weren't lactose intolerant before, chances are that you're not, but it's worth looking into. Oh and the probiotic stuff can do that on occasion, especially when you've been on antibiotics for a while. They have a name for that, but I can remember what it is...hmmmmmm
  14. Some things that happen in this world SHOCK me...
  15. Okay, I think this was a post to get some answers out of someone. I actually found the website that he was pulling that info off. It was in the general interest of finding out more about sepsis, mind you. :cursing: I smell a lying *insert your own expletive name for this guy*.
  16. Truthfully, I had those come and go for a few months, but they ended up going away totally after time. If it keeps up for a few more weeks, go talk to the doctor, but I wouldn't worry about it at the moment.
  17. I'm a lot like you, David. I'm a big fan of the high Protein, low-carb diet. Ignoring the fact that I'm a pre-med student and my dad is a doctor, I learned from reading a medical journal and talking to my dad that that diet is BY FAR the healthiest diet. How do you think they tell the diabetics and heart disease patients to eat? Aaaaaaaaaanyway, I would stick with what you're doing. Stay away from high carb stuff and just do what you can. Seriously, you can't always be perfect, but do your best.

Admittedly, I found it a few years ago and here I am, still on. lol.
  19. I would say a SMALL amount of both. It depends on your metabolism, but if at all possible, I would try to steer away from combining the two...only because of the possible respiratory issues...
  20. I can't really complain about what's been happening over here. I dropped 20lbs over the holidays. Granted, that was because I spent 3 weeks in the hospital, but talk about a great Christmas present to myself, right? hahaha. There are some things that I spent 8 or 9 months learning, but after the last fill right around 2 or 3 months ago, I FINALLY got my head on straight to tell myself that you can't screw this up. See, I've really never been a fan of candy, fried food, and stuff like, so the diet that told me what NOT to eat was never hard. I just used to eat an ungodly amount and that's what did it. Now, I'm spending a fair amount of time in the gym and just eating what I should and how much I should. It's been a great year, guys. Oh, and if you're wondering why I spent 3 weeks in the hospital, 12/20 I wrecked my sportbike. There was two skull fractures, a subdural hematoma and a few contusions. There was a little bit of nerve damage in a couple places, but it wasn't too bad. Needless to say, I'm incredibly happy to be alive.
  21. My suggestion would be to start saving money. VERY few insurance companies will approve a BMI of 40 and no co-morbidities. It's starting to become more and more affordable nowadays, but I would also say that as in most things, you get what you pay for. Good luck!
  22. From a post-operative point of view, you're probably going to be just fine. You would've just had a minimally invasive surgery and you were discharged the same day, generally. You don't need to have anyone stay with you. I would find someone who you could call, though, just in case.
  23. Honestly, if you be careful about how you do everything, you'll be just fine. If I were you, though, I would steer away from it, but that's me.
  24. Seeing as though it sounds like the doctor thinks it's acid reflux, I'd keep taking the meds. That would explain the reason that he wants to do the upper GI test. Keeping in mind that the pH of HCl is right around 2 and the meds would pretty much get rid of the discomfort because they are pretty basic. If that doesn't help AT ALL, it could be something else... Do they help at all?
