Good luck. We all lose weight while on the pre surgery diet. You still need the extra help of the Lap Band. I had the surgery 7/30 and now food doesn't interest me like it did before. You will do great. Remember the LapBand is like a band aid-it helps but does not cure you. You still have to exercise and eat properly. I just came back from a huge buffet dinner and ate what I am allowed. I had no hot fudge sundae, no fruit or other great looking deserts. But I will weight less than the people who ate all that in the morning!!! Clothes buying in smaller sizes is fun too.
  2. What is a normal weekly weight loss for a bander? I was banded 7/30 and have been losing 1-3 lbs. per week. Is this normal or just normal for me? I see my surgeon and dietitian this Friday. I have not had a fill yet. I hope to go onto stage 5 of the meal plan also. I miss salad, bread, pasta and pizza. I hope they are allowed. I know small amounts but I would like to have them back. I do miss my Dunkin Donuts ice tea, which had caffeine. I brew my own decaf every day, I drink a lot of ice tea with Splenda. I also like Dairy Queen soft serve ice cream. What do others miss that you gave up when you were banded? Have a great day. Happy New Year to all.

Good luck with your new surgery. Sorry to hear that the band didn't work for you. Good luck with the sleeve, hope it works and look great soon.
  4. Time for a new doctor? My lung doctor set me up for the surgery, not my PCP. My PCP is behind me with the banding, though. My surgeon likes by pass better but I don't. I know about 6 people who had by pass and they are all big again. It is a band aid not a cure. We have to want to change our nasty eating habits. I have and I am proud of myself. I hope one day to wear a size 12 or 14. I don't need to be skinny, I am 62 next week. Do it for you and no one else.
  5. Hello, I totally know what you feel about the mirror. My face does look thinner but I still see fat, fat everywhere. The scale is down and clothes are huge but I see fat. Since March I am down 53 lbs., banded in July. I have thought of seeing someone but where they take my insurance they are very young and keep leaving as soon as you get comfortable with the person. Ugh! Keep up the good work. I am glad other people have the same thoughts as me.

I totally know what you are talking about. I was Banded 7/30 and up until I went into the operation room, I was ready to say NO. I am so happy I did it. I look better and feel much better. I can walk now and I actually enjoy it. I can now buy clothes in the misses department not the women's. I call it the FF department, Fat F-ck. That is what I also called myself, FF. No more. After being on protein shakes for so long, food means nothing to me now. I do miss pizza, my favorite food. Some day I will have one slice again. I miss salad but know protein is more important. You will do great! Do it for your better health and new clothes. What woman doesn;t want new clothes in a smaller size? Good Luck!!!!!!

A New Dawn-thank you very much. I use Ritz crackers not bread. I am not going to have it tonight. I'll wait until Thanksgiving and have a tablespoon.

Happy Sunday evening. I wanted to tell everyone I really enjoy reading your blogs. They help to keep me going and show that anything is possible. I am in stage 4 of my food plan. I make a super turkey stuffing with Ritz and cooked vegetables. Since I am allowed those, can I have some stuffing? Or is it too heavy? I am torn. I know I can eat the turkey. One food that I really enjoy and eat too much of is jumbo lump crab. Does anyone else enjoy this? I eat it as is, no mayo. Thank you fellow Banders, you're all great.

Hi I know what you mean. I have Phlegm when I have my protein shakes. It's the dairy. I never asked the doctor about it. I see him Friday.
  10. I wish you a lot of luck. The band is the best thing I ever did. I was banded 7/30 and since my highest weight in March I am down 52! I am very different than you, I weigh myself way too many times a day. One son told me to throw the scale away. I just can't part with my friend. For chewable vitamins I use CVS and Caltrate gummy bites for calcium and vitaminD. You will do great, November 7th is my 42nd anniversary. Great date.About hair loss, just make sure you get in all your protein. I had a cousin who did by pass over 25 years ago when still on the newer side and they didn't know about protein then and she went bald. It's the protein that keeps you with hair. My dietitian said to have protein before the other foods when eating. I use 1 1/2 scoops of protein when I make my shakes. Enjoy the weekend.
  11. I once ate too fast, same feeling. Had to walk around the house many times. Never again will I eat fast. The experts know their business. I go for a follow up next week. Maybe a fill, don't know and maybe stage 5 of the food plan. That would be nice. I miss salad and pasta. Good luck.
  12. Congratulations!!!!! Good luck with your new life.
  13. I feel sad for you. You made a commitment and the doctor was suppose to, also. Well Congratulations on one year and the weight loss and having no problems. Keep up the great hard work.

I think you're great to go back to work so soon. As for the shakes, I use a lot of ice cubes in mine and make into a very thick shake. The shake fills me more and it makes like you're having something naughty. I only drink chocolate and add decaf instant coffee and/or peppermint extract for an added change. Think of it as a McDonald's thick shake. Keep up the good work.
  15. Happy Wednesday/Hump Day, My son sent me an email that Lisa Lampaneli had the sleeve in the spring and her husband also had it. The picture on TMZ made Lisa look great. The sleeve is too drastic for me. I wish them a lot of luck. I think the Band is the best. It can be removed if there is a problem and no staples that pop or be stretched out. At my support group not one person had the sleeve, just a very few the by pass, everyone seems to love the band.
  16. Hi, I was banded July 30th and have not had a fill yet. My weight has been within 1-3 lbs. for over a week. I have been trying on a pair of pants for over a month and today they zipper!!!! So my body has gone down in inches. I finally took measurements on 9/6 for the first time. My highest weight was in March. I have no idea how large I really was. Be patient, the weight took longer than one month to put on. At my support group last week a man who was banded last November is down 90! That is very encouraging.
  17. When I go out to eat, I eat out a lot for dinner, I order from the children's menu. I have been very strict with my eating. I hope it lasts.Yesterday I had a lunch order of turkey tips and mashed potatoes and had more than enough food. My biggest concern is this week coming up. It is the Jewish New Year and eating at other's homes and an engagement party. I haven't eaten with people who do not know about my banding and I am very nervous when people see a very small amount on my plate, it is buffet dining. My husband said to just say I am watching what I am eating, that is how I lost 51 lbs. since March! I do not plan on telling others about my surgery, too much privacy for me. I know most people are very proud but I feel like a failure and this was the only thing that can help me. A doctor told me that I am not a failure because I went for help by being banded. Do any of my fellow banders feel this way? Have a great Sunday. Super weather in Boston.
  18. Happy Saturday to all. Last night I made sweet and sour meatballs, love them. You mix equal parts of sugar free grape jelly and chili sauce together in a pot and let it come to a boil. Make meatballs,(I bought 1 lb.) I use 90% lean meat with some spices and some panko. Make the balls and put them into the mixture on low for about 1 hour. They are so good. Soft to eat. I have 3 for my 4oz. Have a great Sunday and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all.
  19. Fitbits is a small thing that counts your calories, exercise, sleep and just keeps track of your new life. The woman showed us hers on the screen how much she ate, exercised and it told her how many more calories she could have for the day. The woman brought hers and showed us the web site. It cost $100. So is it worth the investment?
  20. Hello again, I just came back from my support group. One bander brought and showed off her Fitbit. Has anyone bought one and do you like it? Also, the same person does body wraps and swears they take off inches and she says her 4 chins will be gone by next month's meeting, She was banded in July, just like me.
  21. Happy Thursday. My question is-do you tell everyone how you really lost your weight? I have only told a few people other than a few family members. Next week I have the Jewish holidays and my nephews engagement party and I don't know how to answer people. I am thinking of just saying I am dieting with the help of a dietitian. I hate my husband's sister, so she will never know about me. She's a long story and I've been married 42 years and she has been mean to me almost all those years. Today I went to Kohl's and tried on a size 18 misses not womens jeans! They fit and looked good. Tops I still need womens 1x, better than 3x I was wearing. Have a great weekend everyone.
  22. Thank you for sharing a wonderful success story! I was banded 6 weeks ago and it's the best thing I ever did for myself. Since my highest in March I am down 50lbs!! I don't really see it but my clothes do. Reading about a person like yourself, helps me a lot. Thank you very much.
  23. I was rereading my food list for phase 4 and saw Soy Chips. I bought cheddar cheese ones last night at Whole Foods and they are great! They have protein in them. I had some for lunch with some lump crab and loved it. I am always looking for new foods to try. Tonight I am trying for the first time pork. I hope it's not too tough to chew-chew-chew.
  24. I feel sorry for going through everything. I hope you can make it through 6 more weeks of liquid. After my surgery (6 weeks ago) and I could finally eat real food, I found that food doesn't mean the same to me anymore. Weird. With the shakes you don't have to think. I still have a drink for breakfast, I hate breakfast foods. I add decaf coffee and or peppermint extract for added flavor to the chocolate. Keep using this site to help you get through this period. Just remember the weight took longer than 6 weeks.
  25. Very nice to hear that someone else had the hernia repaired. My stomach was also in the wrong place so both got fixed and a large cyst was removed from my chest. I have 6 scars from everything but without the hernia and stomach repaired I was taking 6 pills a day to eat without pain or coughing. Walk as much as you can. I don't do it enough. I drink a lot of iced decaf tea with Splenda. That is a down fall of mine. I drink 6-10 glasses a day.Keep up the work. I am down 50lbs. from my high in March and was banded 6 weeks ago. Best thing I ever did!
