  1. congrats !! whats your secret ? how did you loose 100 lbs in 8 months with no fills ?? please share !
  2. i was just banded mid dec, and honestly it was a breeze. ive had more trouble and discomfort with a dental appt. i was at the hosp at 5;45 am, rolled into the operating room at 8, and the next thing i know the nurse woke me up at 9;30 and said youre done !! i left the hospital at 11am feeling a little tired but fine otherwise.(put a waterbottle and some lifesavers in the car for the ride home-i had the worst cottonmouth all day !!!!) i rested on the couch for 2 days and by the 3rd day i was so bored i went and did some lite xmas shopping. other than the left side feeling like a bad pulled muscle for 10 days, it was all so easy ! lost 14 lbs total so far. you'll do fine! good luck to you, and see you on the other side !!
  3. - jdun23-sorry, didnt mean to ignore your call for help. ive only been banded 7 weeks, but i find if i eat a healthy meal 1st, the bad craving go away 95%. then a bite or 2 satisfies me. good luck !
  4. B-52, once there were 3 bears............. hilarious ! im still laughing !!!
  5. i was banded dec 13th, lost 6 lbs pre-op and about 5-6 lbs the week after. ive lost maybe 2 lbs since then and had my 1st fill jan 9th. i still have noooooo restriction and can tolerate just about anything. (this was a complete surprise ) im wishing i was loosing but not surprised as i was told this is normal until the fills find my sweet spot. i was told it can take between 1-6 fills for that to happen . my next fill is jan 30th. i think maybe youre expecting too much too soon ?? i do find that if i eat healthy when im hungry the bad craving go away 95%. then if im still craving something i find a bite or 2 of chocolate satifies me and i dont want anything else. hope this works for you. good luck !
  6. i wish id had a roll of lifesavers after surgery. i had the worst cottonmouth afterwards. also put a bottle of water in the car for the ride home, cottonmouth again that even the water and ice chips in the recovery room couldnt get rid of. also try "Boost" a protein drink you get in the grocery store next to the slim fast . yummy ! hot tea and hot campbells soup , strained , is really nice on your tummy. (I loved chicken noodle and vegetable beef, as i found the boxed version of low salt chicken or beef broth still too salty for me) sugar free pudding packs, frozen taste like ice cream, yummy ! good luck to you !
  7. to ms73, i couldnt of said it better myself. my family and my hubbys family knew, because my 2 in laws had it june 2011. i watched their progress over the summer and was impressed enough with their changes that i researched as much as possible and was finally banded dec 2011. im doing fine 5 weeks post op, down 14 lbs. i think if you treat wls as a well researched decision that you and your dr made to get you healthy , nobody can really fault you for it. if they do thats their problem, not yours ! good for you that youre doing something special for your body and your future ! you go girl !!
  8. amberj- i have bcbs in wash state. i went to my 1st seminar sept 7th, and started the paperwork. they approved me 100% in nov, and i just got banded dec 13th. they required a psych visit. a nutritionish visit, a note from my dr stating why she thought i would be a good canidate. she knew of my struggles with my weight and my family history. i also had to have weight watchers fax my year long history with them. bcbs approved me within 3 weeks- god bless them ! im down 14 lbs and it has all been VERY easy. good luck to you !!
  9. ive only been banded a month-i have sleep apnea too. i arrived at the hosp at 5;45am and left the hosp 5 hrs later- no overnighter needed. it was all so easy. mild discomfort on my left side for about 10 days- im down 14 lbs as of today and 1 pant size . woohoo !! wait until you get your 1st nsv ! (non scale victory) !! so worth it ! good luck to all !!
  10. you're my hero. i cant wait to have a success story like yours. congrats ! you're AWESOME !! im only 1 month out so i have along ways to go. good luck !!
  11. sandyb- my 1st fill was jan 9th- you sip this yucky chalky drink, you lay down , and the nurse watches a screen to see where your port is. you tighten up your stomach muscles, she puts the needle into the port and you say ouch. all done , easy !! i have another fill on jan 30th. no big deal, you'll do fine. good luck !!!
  12. its a personal decision that you have to make only for yourself. you dont owe any body an explanation. my family was very supportive because they knew i had been struggling with my weight for years. my co workers have also been very supportive. i honestly havent heard one negative comment. its now been 4 weeks. im down 15 lbs and 1 pant size. just this week ive had 2 very nice discreet compliments. ( one hot mama, and _you're looking especially nice lately!) woo hoo ! i think if you're calm and proud of you decision people will treat you that way. if they make negative comments just ask them how much they've researched lap bands. they will probably get reallllllllll quiet. good luck !
  13. instant breakfast or boost protein drinks, sugar free pudding cups (frozen , they taste like ice cream). i wish id had lifesavers right after surgery, i had bad cottonmouth all day. even ice and water wasnt helping until later in the day. also- liquid tylenol, the liquid pain reliever they give you is beyond horrible. best of luck to you !
  14. awesome ! i m down 15lbs to 210, and with another 11 lbs i will finally weigh less than my hubby too. cant wait ! good luck and way to go !!
  15. i was just banded dec 13th and its been very easy . i was in and out of the hospital in about 5 hrs ! i wish i had a roll of lifesavers with me for right after surgery, as the water and nonstop ice chips couldnt get rid of the horrible cottonmouth i had all day. im down 13 lbs, and 1 pant size ! wait until you have your 1st nsv (non scale victory ), you'll be so glad you did this ! good luck to you !
  16. i was just banded a month ago. i hope i can be at least down 40 lbs by next christmas. im ok if i lose slowly, but do you mind sharing some advice ? do you feel you followed the drs rule pretty well, or did you cheat alot ? what do you wish you could change if you could concerning this last year ? did you exerercise much ? any advice for us newbies ? thanks and heres hoping you have a successful 2011 ! !! you're awesome !!!
  17. thanks everyone for your supportive comments. i WILL get to a healthy weight whether its 125, 140 or whatever my body decides is right for me. im looking at this as a long term commitment to a happier, healther me. the best is yet to come !
  18. so im 1 month post op, down 15 lbs a nd doing fine with 1 fill so far. the other night i attended my monthly support group meeting and during the meeting the know it all blowhard " leader" monopolized the 1st 35 mins of the meeting with all his stories about his life, weight loss, family stories etc. i finally politely interrupted him a nd explained that being new to this i had some questions. he asked me what my weight loss goal was . i told him i would be happy if i got to 140 lbs, but i would be really happy if i surpassed that and got back down to 125 lbs. his flat response was "well, 125 is not going to happen, thats just not realistic ." ( im a 53 yr old woman , 5'3 and was 125 all through my teenage years and mid 20's. i did;nt start having a weight prob until 30. im now down from a high of 225 to 215 in 6 weeks- yay me !) i though how the hell do you know you blowhard ? you;ve known me all of 35 mins, and all you've done is talk about yourself ?? anyone have an opinion on this weight loss goal ?? realistic or not ? thanks !!
  19. wow ! ive only been banded 1 month and ive had nothing but supportive comments from family a nd co workers who know about it. i feel great , and ive lost 15lbs total. in the last 2 days ive received 2 compliments about how good im looking! some of my old clothes fit and so im dressing nicer. if sombody gives you grief about anything just explain youre doing something healthy for your body. wait until you get your 1st nsv ! (non-scale victory) clothes that finally fit, a nice compliment, walking without being tired, etc ) hope all goes well for you, mine has been a breeze !! just had my 1st fill. doing fine ! i'll be thinking of you on surgery day !
  20. congrats ! im 4 weeks out and have only lost 12 lbs. had my 1st fill today, hopefully this will calm down my returning appetite. you lost 20 so far ? wow thats great ! im down 1 pant size so far, hopefully those little nsv's (non scale victories) will keep you motivated when the scale doesnt move . good luck !!
  21. um hello ????? how did you lose that much weight in 4 months ? whats your secret ? what do you eat and how much do you exercise ? you must look and feel fantastic ! congrats !!!! i was just banded 4 wks ago , have lost 12 lbs and then stopped. had my 1st fill today- hopefully i will start losing again . any advice you can give ?? thanks !!
  22. arrrrrrrrrggggggg!!!! hugs to all of you who have to put up with others peoples insensitive comments ! i have a really good sense of humor about life and my weight, so when somebody makes a rare comment i just rub my hands over my full hips and say "honey, i am FABULOUS, i did not get this figure on fruits and vegetables but i am still FABULOUS !!!" and you know what ? if people know you have a good sense of humor about yourself, they usually know you can handle a little fun. as far as the rude insensitive comments from people, hey, call them on it !!! politely tell them that their comment was uncalled for !! when you start gently but firmly standing up for yourself, they'll watch their words a little more carefully. go for it and remember YOU ARE SO WORTH IT !!!!!!
  23. wow ! i hope i have that kind of success in a year too ! thanks for sharing such a great update !
  24. i have enough cancer in my family tree to kill a horse, i am the only one in my immediate family who HASN"T had cancer, and i also have it on both grandparents. one reason i got banded was the higher your bmi is tends to increase your cancer risk. also, if i did get cancer i wanted to be strong and healthy enough to fight it. i was just recently banded but am on my way to a healthier me. lapband is my choice for all the right reasons. best of luck to you .
