  1. Congradulations firefighter to you and your wife. I am an ex police officer and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 4th. My insurance doesn't cover wls so I am self paying in Mexico. It will be great for you guys to go through this together and help one another out along the way. How exciting.
  2. I watched it once without the narrative and then went on youtube and found one narrated. I have probably watched it 6 times total. I was fascinated. I can't wait for mine in November. I feel so much better informed now that I know what exactly what is being done.
  3. My dad is going to Mexico with me because he's really worried about the surgery. He is overweight also and recently talked to his doctor about maybe having the sleeve done next year after he sees how mine goes. His doctor said the ones who have success with any weight loss surgery are the ones who eat right and join a gym and really get an exercise routine going. I would add to that that being involved in a forum like this is the key to staying on track. Just reading everyone elses success stories and getting all the great advise and encouragement is priceless. You feel like you have support and accountability and you're not on your own, especially those of us going to Mexico and not having the doctor and nutritionist here.
  4. I tried to wean myself off and didn't do well. I will have to wait until the last minute and then go cold turkey. The headaches will stink but I did it once before for a month. It was rough though.
  5. That is awesome, you look like a new person. I can't wait to be at that point.
  6. I know how you feel, my boyfriend is refusing to go with me so my dad and daughter are going. He just doesn't think I need it and doesn't think it's safe. It may end up being the end of our relationship because I feel like if he can't be by my side and support me through this then I can't count on him when I really need him. Atleast your husband is going with you, that's a start.
  7. My surgery is scheduled for November 4th with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana, Mexico.
  8. Love, love, love the soup recipes. I'm getting an immersion blender this weekend. I had one I never used and gave it away. I knew I would need it for something one day. Thanks again for the recipes.
  9. I also take college classes and worry about falling behind. I take 2 online classes. They only last 8 weeks and its very easy to get behind. I'm afraid of being in Mexico for 6 days and then being tired after surgery and not getting stuff done. To make it worse I only get one week off work. It will be a challenge that's for sure but I know it will be worth it in the long run.
  10. Mine is a 14 day pre op. I'm not looking forward to that or giving up caffeine.
  11. I feel your pain only not to your extent. My boyfriend of almost 4 years is acting the same way. He is normally the sweetest guy but he is dead set against this surgery. I'm a self pay going to Mexico and he refuses to go with me. I'm going ahead with my surgery because this is for ME. I may be doing it differently if we were married. I did finally get it out of him that most of his attitude was because he doesn't think I need it and that he could not handle it if something goes wrong in surgery and I die. I wish you the best of luck and hope things work out for you.
  12. I say do it now if there is any way you can. Something else will always come up and get in the way.
  13. I'm getting sleeved in Novemeber in Mexico. Are there any support meetings around here other than ones from your doctors office?
  14. Mine is November 4th in Tijuana with Dr. Kelly. Anyone else gonna be the same time? I would love to have a surgery buddy even though I have family going with me.
  15. Where are you having yours done? Mine is Nov. 4th in Mexico, Dr. Kelly. Yours is the closest date to mine I have seen so far. We should be going through the same stuff together!
  16. I'm having my surgery in November so I can't say from experience yet but I worry about going back to work after just 1 week because a lot of people talk about being so tired. I would hate to see you leave school so maybe they can work out the eating schedule for you and hopefully you wont be too tired to stay awake in class. Good luck to you and just be very careful after surgery about eating and drinking the way your doctor tells you to. I wish you the best.
  17. My surgery with Dr. Kelly is Nov. 4th and I will be leaving the hotel on the 8th so I will probably just miss you. I was hoping to find someone there the same time to know ahead of time. Good luck and a speedy recovery for both of us.
  18. I will be sleeved in November and I love soup. I too am not a big fan of the protein shakes. I will look forward to your soup recipes! Awesome job on the weight loss and glad you found this forum.
  19. My friends and family all know I am going to Mexico for the surgery. That's just the kind of person I am, very open and honest. I don't hide anything. My dad is nervous about it being done in Mexico so he is going with me. He said he talked to his doctor about it yesterday, he is very overweight and having some health problems now. She talked to him about the pros and cons and he wants to wait and see how my surgery and progress goes before he decides to have it done. My dad was always super skinny when he was younger and this weight gain is really getting him down so I think he's hoping it works well for me. That just motivates me even more knowing he will be watching me.
  20. I would just see how the evening goes and if you feel comfortable then tell him and if not than wait and see. But be forewarned, I was on a dating site and guys can seem so wonderful and perfect in emails and then on the phone or in person they are a whole other story. But the good news is I met my current boyfriend of almost 4 years on that site and he is very sweet and caring. He doesn't want me to get the sleeve and wont go to Mexico with me but is other wise a great guy that would do anything for me.
  21. I used to own a smoothy bar in a gym and I worked out on the treadclimber everyday. I loved it, it was my favorite piece of equipment. A lot of gyms stopped having them because they broke down a lot and are expensive to fix. But if you had one at home I think it would last a long time because there aren't 30 people a day on it, just you. You burn twice the calories and it isn't any harder than a treadmill which I can't do cuz I get bored on one. Hope that helps.
  22. Shrinking the liver makes sense, if you've watched the surgery online you can see they lift the liver up out of the way to operate on the stomach. I watched it 5 times, I was that fascinated.
  23. It's such a great forum. Everyone is really great about answering your questions and it's nice to talk to others who are going through the same thing. The different perspectives are nice too. Welcome.
  24. I know how you feel. I just scheduled my surgery for Nov. 4th in Mexico. It's very exciting. I can't wait to get started.
  25. Good luck to you. I will be calling my doctor today to send the deposit and book the surgery date. I'm sooo excited. If I get the date I want it will be 9 weeks from today.
