  1. Why were you in the hospital, if you don't mind my asking? And where did you have your sleeve done?
  2. My mom also was diabetic as well as my grandmother and my aunt, who were all overweight as well. My mom has been gone 3 years this December and I know she would have been super excited for me to have this surgery. I can't wait to have it done and hopefully prevent being diabetic myself.
  3. That is so awesome. I'm happy for you. My oldest daughter is accepting it. My boyfriend still wont go. He says he just can't be there if something goes wrong. But I have my middle daughter and my dad going so I will be in good hands.
  4. My boyfriend and oldest daughter are not supportive either. My middle daughter is going to Mexico with me along with my dad who is very worried. My oldest thinks you can just diet and exercise and lose the weight with no problem. They just don't understand. My boyfriend is worried also and doesn't think I'm fat. He's super skinny and doesn't understand being overweight. They will come around and be happy for you when you look and feel great later.
  5. I've been worried about this too. I have small deep veins that roll. I'm getting all the tests done the day before while I can still drink and not be all day without anything to drink after flying to San Diego from Kansas City.
  6. I drink about 3 cups each moring (6 according to the coffe pot) and 1 to 2 diet cokes a day. I am dreading the day I have to quit. I can't even imagine. I know I should do it now but I figure I have until atleast mid October before I have to quit. I think I'll enjoy it while I can.
  7. I wish I was at the same time. I'm going to Dr. Kelly on Nov 4th I think. The date isn't set in stone but I'm getting ready to make the deposit. My boyfriend wont go so my daughter and my dad are going. If you were there the same time we would adopt you as ours.
  8. Just wondering if you had this done in the U.S. or Mexico?
  9. As far as I know he only books through alighterme.com. Their number is 1-877-765-8446.
  10. I've heard that most individual policies will not cover you. You could call a few and ask to see what they say.
  11. I went to youtube and watched several different ones. I liked the ones that were narrated so you knew exactly what they were doing. I was mesmerized. I thought it was facinating.
  12. My aunt has the lapband and she throws up all the time. She couldn't eat bread or meat at all and it's very painful trying to eat certain foods. She only lost a little weight and then stalled. I think she stretched it out or something because she can eat a lot of food now.
  13. Thanks for the article. I'm trying to convince my daughter that I need this surgery. She is a personal trainer and thinks everyone can just diet and exercise and keep it off. She's young and hasn't lived all her life with the struggle. I sent her the article. I'm sure it wont convince her but atleast give her something to think about.
  14. I also am having a hard time paying for the surgery but I think I have it all worked out now for November. It will definitely be a sacrafice in some ways but it will be so worth it. I hope things work out for you too financially. And I hope he comes around once he sees how happy you are losing the weight and feeling better.
  15. Thanks Sara, I'm doing it for me. He will come around eventually.
  16. He definitely does not like change so maybe that's part of it. I don't see the big deal but I've always been ok with change if it's for the better. This is about me and what is best for me. I'm going for it. Thanks.
  17. Thanks Abby, you are right. They can support you and be there for you but in the end you have to make your own decisions about what you eat and whether or not you exercise. It is definitely up to me to make this happen.
  18. I have told him how much it means to me that he be there with me. He went through a really bad motorcycle accident 3 years ago and I never left his side. I even had to help him shower and get dressed, I cooked and cleaned for him and his son. I've tried to tell him I was there when he needed me and now I need him there with me but he says I'm chosing this and he didn't chose what happened to him. He's just not willing to go with me. But that's ok. I know I'm doing what's best for me and my health. Thank you for responding, I'm grateful for the support on here.
  19. thinoneday, thanks. He is very insecure about losing me so that may be part of the problem. Hopefully he will come around and if not, so be it.
  20. Thank you, you are right. My mom, aunt, uncle and grandmother were all overweight and diabetic. My 5 year younger sister is 5 '9" 300 pounds. We are a large family with bad genetics it seems. I don't want to be diabetic and I know this is the right thing to do for me. I'm finding this website very helpful and supportive. Thanks again.
  21. I have been researching weight loss surgery for years and have decided on the sleeve with Dr. Kelly in Mexico. It looks like the middle of November is when I will be going. My boyfriend, of 3 1/2 years, is totally against it. He doesn't think I need surgery and thinks I look fine as I am. I'm 5'7" 250 lbs. He is also very concerned about it being done in Mexico. He refuses to go with me to have it done, stating his reason is, he just can't support it when he is so against it. My daugher has lost 30 pounds on weight watchers and is now becoming a personal trainer so she doesn't understand why I need surgery either. She thinks I can just do it the old fashion way with diet and excercise. I've been on every diet known to man, most of them twice. I've always gained the weight back and then some. I am definitely doing this but wish I had their support. My middle daughter will be going with me and she is the only one who is supportive. She is also overweight and understands my need to do this.
  22. That's so sweet. I must say I'm jealous. My boyfriend isn't supportive of my getting the sleeve (hopefully in Nov.). He won't go with me to Mexico or have anything to do with it. He's slim and doesn't understand being overweight. He's only worried about complications. But he won't even listen to me talk about the doctor or his track record.
  23. I'm planning for a mid November surgery so I won't be missing any riding weather here in Missouri. Nice to read some stories from other bikers though. Anyone have Dr. Kelly in Mexico? I'm still a little nervous.
  24. I just talked to a coordinator at alighterme and they said there are problems with Trish right now. You may want to call them yourself if you have questions. I am going to go through them directly so I know I am dealing with who the doctor uses directly.
