  13. I am having to do a manometry test this tuesday before I can get my lap band and i came across this article and maybe it will help some one- Peppermint oil improves the manometric findings in diffuse esophageal spasm. Angeles, CA 90048, U.S.A. mark.pementel@cshs.org Abstract BACKGROUND: Diffuse esophageal spasm (DES) is an uncommon condition that results in simultaneous esophageal contractions. Current medical treatment of DES is frequently unsatisfactory. We hypothesized that, as a smooth muscle relaxant, peppermint oil may improve the manometric findings in DES. STUDY: Eight consecutive patients with chest pain or dysphagia and who were found to have DES were enrolled during their diagnostic esophageal manometry. An eight-channel perfusion manometry system was used. Lower esophageal sphincter pressure and contractions of the esophageal body after 10 wet swallows were assessed before and 10 minutes after the ingestion of a solution containing five drops of peppermint oil in 10 mL of Water. Each swallow was assessed for duration (seconds), amplitude (mm Hg), and proportion of simultaneous and multiphasic esophageal contractions. RESULTS: Lower esophageal sphincter pressures and contractile pressures and durations in both the upper and lower esophagus were no different before and after the peppermint oil. Peppermint oil completely eliminated simultaneous esophageal contractions in all patients (p < 0.01). The number of multiphasic, spontaneous, and missed contractions also improved. Because normal esophageal contractions are characteristically uniform in appearance, variability of esophageal contractions was compared before and after treatment. The variability of amplitude improved from 33.4 +/- 36.7 to 24.9 +/- 11.0 mm Hg (p < 0.05) after the peppermint oil. The variability for duration improved from 2.02 +/- 1.80 to 1.36 +/- 0.72 seconds (p < 0.01). Two of the eight patients had chest pain that resolved after the peppermint oil. CONCLUSIONS: This data demonstrates that peppermint oil improves the manometric features of DES.
  14. Remember the new year starts new rules, from OPM they said the is premium was going up a bit but not too many changes in benefits. . I have a manomety test to take next tuesday and if all is well I can submit my paperwork! this 2 days turn around is GOOD NEWS - I am ready!
  15. I have fepblue basic and not banded yet, have one more test- before can send in paperwork but I thought the co-pays were required by insurance? and my test is $75 copay, how is fills so much? I think Ill be asking that on the next call to FEPBLUE
  16. :oI think we need to realize that any hospital you go to may have MRSA at anytime. We had a toilet spill at work of the worse kind and 2 people got MRSA in some minor, cuts GO figure?? not like anyone waded in the stuff. It is just like a cold, the flu and any other crap that now now flourishes in the air. I am being treated for candida, in my esohpagus... again GO figure how it got there>?? I'm thinking same toilet? but with GERD and antibiotics and recent colonoscopy where they were down my throat, I propbably got it there. Now more test before I can get my band,, We live in a dirty world, best thing is to stay healthy, and keep our immune system up as best we can. But, the suff is floating out there for sure.
  17. So today.- my surgeon gave me a GI's name who can do this manometry - next Tue. initial consult then when ever they want to do the actual test- then just wait on results and see what happens. I feel better today, because the surgeon found a solution to the problem. the GI doctor could have helped me... but I right now accepting OCT may not be my BANDING month, but ya never know,,, thanks again for the encouragement.
  18. I have an appointment with a 2nd Gastro DR to get the manometry test next Tuesday,,, then the test, then the results,,, October may or not be my lapband month. well at least im back on track getting things done towards that and lost 2 lbs..
  19. Congratulations! take it easy though even if you feel great, go slow and just smile!!!
  20. Tomorrow will be on the phone, From what the lady at the hospital said: is that anyone can order the procedure but a doctor has to read it and not all Drs can read them?? I think that is why the surgeon and the GI Dr say they dont do it. so yes in search tomorrow to see what to do. Its a mission! and thanks so much for sending me good vibes, I can use all the support I can get.
