Has anyone experienced increased reflux, mucus production and coughing after having the endoscopy? I had mine 3 weeks ago, they found a large hiatial harnea, the size of a tangerine. My chest hurt for a week after that and I have had a real problem with coughing and mucus ever since. I take Nexium for the reflux. Since I started that I do not have the sore throat in the morning or the acid taste in my mouth. But I have had a real issue with the thick mucus, enough to really interfere with my sleep. When I went for my follow up I was so surprised about the hiatal hernea that I forgot to ask about the coughing and mucus. Thanks !

i had one on the 28th and for a week after i was gassy and burpie but no mucus. i would call the doctor and ask. always be on the safe side.

Iam glad I didnt see ur post last night, I might have chickened out today. I had my EGD today. Feel fine so far, I do have a slight sore throat and some chest pain. I have a mild hernia and gatritis. I too was prescribed Nexium, we'll see how that goes. Will ck back in in a couple of days. Do u have your surgery date yet. I have a follow up tomorrow with PA so we'll see. Hope u feel better soon.

I am still suffering and it has been 2 weeks and to aggrivate the problem, I did a manometry test yesturday morning--- aghaghaah I went to the beach, I sat in the sun, i gargled, i bought a dehumidifer and got some musinex.

then they ask: do you have a cough? problem swallowing.

chest pain and I said YES !!!twice put to sleep and then a thing stuck down my nose within 6 weeks YES --it's all fluffy!

i feel better day by day, although morning Im still rumbley. But they heard my lungs not there, it just my throat, it will get better,,

wish I knew the endoscopy was thru the nose...it wasnt that bad until they started pumping the air and I started gagging. Thank god they require you to fast for over 8hrs if not it would have been worse.

No they go through your mouth. When you get there you have an IV placed, for fluid. You wait around for a while then the anesthesiologist will sedate you a bit, then take you to the operating room, Then the last thing you will remember is rolling onto your left side and having a bite block thing put in your mount to keep it open, then you wake you wake up in recovery. You will probably have a slightly sore throat. They will give you the results of the scope, and you wake up some more and go home. It is actually pretty simple....Good Luck!

Thanks abqann that makes me feel better. They have me all lined up for loads of testing and labs the Monday after Thanksgiving and this is one of them.

I was in an out in less than 1.5 hours. Only directions they gave me was not to sign any legal documents, as the IV med messes with your memory. Good reason to take the day off. No problems, no pain.

Wow, am I glad I didn't have to go through the endoscopy. I had blood work done for pre-op but no other medical testing done. I was banded Wednesday, October 19th and had to have an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time. What is really weird is not "eating" anything since Tuesday evening. I have had juice, broth, popsicles, crystal light, and Water. If I drink too much too fast I definitely feel the tightness in my chest.

I have had numerous endoscopies for swallowing problems and GERD. Last year, I developed ulcers from NSAID therapy. Good news is that they healed. More good news is that maybe I won't have such severe GERD. I also need two hernia repairs. I have always been treated with kindness. The last thing you probably will remember is a nurse putting a bite in your jaw. It is all through your mouth. Mannometry is done through your nose. I have woken up twice when they were finishing with dilating my esophagus. The next time the MD added a little benedryl to the mix and I have never woken up again during the procedure. I have my GI's blessing on the lapband. He feels that it will make a significant change in my quality of life.

Nope mine was thru the nose at the drs office...took about 5minutes and I was fully awake. The only thing they gave me was "afrin" with something on there to numb the throat...it wasn't that bad until they started blowing air into my stomach and I started gagging. Not too terrible but definitively dont want to do it again.

Maybe the way they go in , nose or mouth , depends on what they are looking for. Or just Dr preference. I am glad I had anesthesia. I had a scope of my nose years ago ago and found it pretty scary. I have a deviated septum and cannot breath through one nostril. I was sooo claustrophobic and thought i was going to suffocate. My ENT said afterward we should have given me some sedation.
