    December Surgery Buddies!

This is Awesome!!!! I am hoping that things go this well for me too 🤞🏻. I am so happy to hear that you’re doing so well! I bought a cookbook that has full liquid protein recipes (it is a Bariatric cookbook) it walks through the first three week up a regular (general) diet. It has been helpful in getting ready for my post op.

I’ve got my date of December 20th! I’m so excited. I stated this journey with my first consult on September 21st, 2023 it took one month to get things done and get a date. I have my preop class on November 8th to learn what all I can and can’t eat. Anyone else have a December date?

Just had The Talk with my doctor..

I had a doctor's appointment today. I just had my first serious talk with a doctor about considering bariatric surgery. She sent a referral for a specialist so I haven't even had my first intake yet. I will ask her all the questions when I meet her but for now, I can't stop thinking about how big of a life change that would be, and the idea is kind of terrifying at the moment. I'm most interested in the sleeve. A bit about me, I have PCOS, will likely get a hysterectomy, and am around 400lb. If you have experience with these things and have a sleeve I'd love to hear more. What made you choose the sleeve? What are your top pros and cons?

I am 2 weeks post op now from gastric bypass.. I am doing ok on the pureed diet but really ready for some food. I am thinking I am going to love the soft food stage when I can add more things.. went back to work yesterday but I am so tired from the long days. This has been a little harder then I thought it would but I am making due.. my husband is starting to notice changes in me and I am noticing clothes are starting to fit weird. it is not often I get to say that me clothes are getting big.. off to see how this week goes..

I would not be too concerned about losing too much weight. Unless you have extremely rare and serious complications, it is infuriatingly easy to eat more than enough calories to maintain. For most people, avoiding regain is the biggest concern in the long term. I’m about 3.5 years out and I have to be super careful to track my calories and work out every day. If I weren’t careful to eat low-calorie foods, I could easily gain back a lot of weight. The effects of the restriction wear off over time and I can eat much larger portions than I could, say, 1 year out. Not nearly as much as I could eat pre-surgery (I was a bottomless pit!) but if I were still eating the same high-calorie foods, I would be in trouble. The only reason I’ve been able to maintain my weight loss so far is because I completely changed the way I eat. Going through the post-op diet progression forced me to reset my diet, relearn how to eat. Now that my restriction has weakened and I can’t rely on my stomach to limit my portion sizes, I have to fill my stomach with low-calorie foods. In some ways it’s easier than before surgery because I’ve retrained my palate and developed good habits, but it is definitely still a struggle every day.

Buying clothes and shrinking out of them before I get to wear them. It's a bummer, but hey, it's a good problem.

    December Surgery Buddies!

Hi friends! My surgery was supposed to be today but when they ran labs my co2 came back abnormal. They ran it once more and the same thing. So they did it in an artery and it turns out I’m in acidosis. Needless to say, the surgery has been canceled for today and they’re keeping me to give me medication and attempt to find the source. I’m so upset. I feel so overwhelmed and discouraged. I would never want surgery if my body is telling me something is wrong, so I’m glad that my surgeon is in tune with that, but I was mentally and physically prepared for this. I have been counting down the days! Please help encourage me friends. I don’t want all I’ve done so far to be for nothing!

Date night! I chose Katz’s Deli to give my BF a sampling of a NYC landmark. Tuna salad half sandwich, potato knish, split pea soup and pickles (I had the soup) I think he liked it. 😂
