    June Surgeries

June surgery here too! Just got my insurance approval and I’m scheduled for June 21st! So excited! Bring it on 😊

1st question: Does your family know you had surgery? If so, travelling really isn't as bad as you think it's going ot be because you always have the "i'm still healing" excuse. (YAY!). Breakfast - scrambled egg or protein shake. Lunch and dinner if you're going out, a creamy soup is usually available. Maybe egg salad too? If it's a secret, you can always use the "I'm just not feeling well" excuse. I started travelling for work during the puree stage and I took canned soups that I could put in the microwave (scrambled egg will work in micro also). Always keep a drink in your hand - That helped me a lot when I was working and there was snack food available.

What kind of vitamins should i buy

YMMV of course, the notion of spending a bazillion bux on "bariatric" anything is anathema to me. It's just license for them to charge more IMO. It's been 10.5 months and Wal-Mart's generic Equate equivalent to Flinstones chewables have worked just fine for me. I realize that some people have issues with taste & texture when it comes to medications, food, etc., but I always start with the cheap options first.

    Southern Cali Kaiser Permanente

Hi there! I’m also going through Kaiser and have a very similar story. I did my referral process last year, and finished my 10 weeks of options classes in January. Everything was closed because of covid though so I was just in limbo. I finally got my referral approvals in the mail today and was told that I should be contacted by the surgeons office any day now. I’m in riverside county, so I’ll be going with Dr. Suh. Looking forward to updating soon with how things are going!!

What kind of vitamins should i buy

I agree, it is confusing. I started off with items from this site, such as a bariatric multivitamin capsule that contains iron. I also got two different flavors of chewable calcium citrate from bariatric advantage. Although I was able to swallow the capsule, the chewable calciums were very large, gummed up in the back of my throat which made me gag, and tasted gross. My surgeon’s office recommended Citracal petites. I was able to swallow those. Within a month, however, I had to change up everything. The iron in the capsule made me vomit, so I purchased a slow release iron tablet upon a pharmacist’s advice. This has been a godsend. I had to find a standalone multivitamin without iron, which I found at a grocery store. Then, The Citracal was making me vomit, so I found a liquid calcium citrate, not great tasting but I can definitely tolerate it. Do some reading, look at reviews, and start with a small supply of what you think will be good for you: multivitamin, iron, and calcium citrate. Take them at the start of a meal to help prevent stomach upset. If something doesn’t feel right, contact your doctor or nutritionist, and there are so many other options! Good luck!

    Choosing between sleeve and bypass

LOL - thanks! I've been hanging out on bariatric boards for a few years - plus I used to work with the pre-op groups at my clinic (well until COVID hit, anyway - so for three or four years). You hear and learn a lot of stuff that way!

AM I MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION 😩

No one can answer that question for you. Only you can decide whether you're up for a permanent change in your relationship with food. But we can share our experiences. Like many people, I had a tough first week after surgery, but by week 3, I was much better. I had no major complications and I lost all my excess weight. I have no regrets or complaints of any kind. There are lots of people on here just like me. The thing is, people are more likely to post about unusual or negative experiences, so you won't see a lot of folks logging on to post "Everything is still fine." So reading the posts can kind of skew your impression of how the surgery goes for most people. Complications happen, but it's more common to come through the surgery just fine, with no major problems. I wish you all the best in making your decision!

I feel the same. I started working out and I’m walking religiously and this scale is STUCK! I just want out these 200s.
