    Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving is going to look very different this year. We aren't having anyone over, and my kids (who are young) don't care about turkey. I told them since we aren't having family over, we don't have to eat turkey, and let them plan the menu. They want fish sticks, mac n cheese, and pumpkin pie! LOL! So that will be easy for me! If our local sushi restaurant is open, then hubs and I will order take out. If not, then we will eat fish sticks too! ha ha!

Wow, 3 meals/day with no snacks would be difficult for me. I have 1/2 an apple or orange midmorning and other half mid afternoon or string cheese, yogurt, a vegetable, etc.-something sensible but it prevents stomach acid and nausea for me. It also helps maintain a good blood sugar level in my case. We’ve each got different issues to deal with so makes sense plans can be different. I told doc I want my plan to be something I can live with long term and this works. Continued success and best wishes to you!

Day 6. So to all, thanks for posting. Yesterday was my worst day due to terrible constipation. Won't go into detail but I resolved that issue. Today I feel great. I'm shocked at how good I've felt the throughout this week post surgery. At 52, it has been a very positive experience so far.

Hi please bare with me I’ll try to explain my best! so I have Medicare as my primary insurance and state medicaid as my secondary insurance. Typically I don’t get a bill bc the state insurance picks up what Medicare doesn’t pay. Well my surgery is approved by Medicare but the Medicaid is saying they won’t approve it bc they require 1 year free from alcohol/ drugs as I use marijuana for pain management that violates there rules. Typically I follow Medicares rules as they are the primary n the medicaid They would cover the part A Deductible and the leftover copayment 20% etc. I feel like the medicaid denial is based on if they were they primary which they are not. So I basically have no idea of I’ll have a huge bill or not. has anyone been through something similar?

    Hairless after surgery

most people do lose some hair, but it's usually just "shedding" that no one is going to notice except you. If it's noticeable, you can always get it cut shorter so it's less noticeable. I actually lost very little hair. Having it come out in clumps (similar to someone on chemotherapy) is pretty rare. I wouldn't have noticed my hair loss by just looking at myself in the mirror - I could just tell by looking at the amount of hair in my comb after I combed it out after washing it - definitely more than usual for about four months or so. if it's going to happen, it's going to happen, and there's not much you can do about it other than keep on top of your protein and vitamins to keep it from getting worse than it is. Keep in mind that it's temporary - it'll last a few months and then grow back. In the grand scheme of things, it's kind of a minor issue, although I know a lot of people worry about it (I did, too...)

After my initial consultation I started making changes to my lifestyle and eating better. I ended up losing 78 pounds between then and my surgery date (mid March to mid September). I didn't at any point think that hey maybe I won't need to do the surgery, but I wanted to get myself in a good place to allow it to have the best chance of success.
