When my mother was in the nursing home before she passed away. Alzheimer's was beginning to take hold so I tried to treat the condition with essential oils. I requested the nurses administer the oil to her once per day. And then when I visited her, I sometimes asked the nurses if that was being done. Their response was rather surprising. They would say the name of my mom and say "Oh! sure we remember her. She is the one who always smells so nice." Now in a nursing home, the smell can become very bad. Sometimes, it is almost like smelling death. And I can imagine that the nurses and aids that have to work in that environment day in and day out can get overwhelmed by the odors. Now I could not detect that the essential oil blend helped my mother's memory improve. But I decided it was a very good idea to continue treating her with oils because it brought a bit of sunshine into the lives of the nurses and aids that had to care for her. And if it brightened their day, they would go the extra mile to brighten her day.

I've made a conscientious effort to avoid using the word "love" when talking about food. "I love chicken wings. I love French fries. I love tacos. I love spaghetti." No more! I'm breaking off my love affair with food. We're just good friends now. But food keeps trying to win me back. "Give me another chance!" "No, Food. I'm moving on. There's someone else in my life now. Someone that I love more than I ever loved you -- myself, my health, my life." - What word will I use in place of "love"? Probably good ol' "like". "I like okra. I like shrimp. I like garden-fresh tomatoes. I like pecans." I'm also going to avoid using the word "hate". Hate gives Food more importance than it deserves. "I don't like pineapple. I dislike Brussels sprouts. I don't care for liver." - For me, it's easier to give up the word "love" rather than "hate". Not sure why.

    I FINALLY have a date!

WOOHOO!!! I started this process in October 2017, and as of today I finally have a date! I'll be getting my bypass on September 19th! I can't tell you how excited I am to know that this PRE-op process is finally heading toward a close. I'm ready to start my new life. I know post-op will be hard for the first several months, but I'm so ready. Now I just need to make sure I have EVERYTHING lined up and all my supplies purchased so that I'm ready for those all important clear liquid, liquid, and soft food stages. Let me know if you're joining me in September, we can be motivational buddies!

    Last visit with surgron pre-WLS

I started vitamins before surgery. You don't want to start off deficient and then maybe not be able to take any for a while to due nausea. Good luck!

    Getting scared

Hi I'm in Dickinson and I'm actually looking to have a gastric sleeve done and scared as well. I'm looking to have it done in Bismarck and I know there's Dr helbling and Dr Dewing but I haven't decided which one and I'm trying to decide which ones probably the better surgeon. Just wanted to see what your thoughts were and how you been.

    Getting scared

Surgical complications and infections post op are legitimate fears. However, can be significantly reduced with the right diet, wound care, and doctor follow up. I'd express these concerns with your surgeon before the big day. Let him know that you've not healed properly in the past, and maybe he will take extra precautions.
