This is kind of cool...I've never had a blog spot. Surgery was Tuesday 2/2/10. Today is Saturday. It seems that my Dr takes a little different approach to the pre op diet and post op diet. It has me a little worried that I shouldn't have eaten those few bites of meat. I did a pre op low carb diet for 4 weeks and I lost 15 pounds on it. Then I had to go only liquids for 2 days before the surgery. I'm on soft foods right now, but we don't do weeks and weeks of it. He said that he's found that he doesn't like putting up diet rules that set you up to fail and if you follow his recommendations on the low carb for 4 weeks, that that is plenty to get your liver ready. And my liver was ready.
I went roller skating today!! The last time I went roller skating I was 12, playing a stupid game, fell and had a nasty break to my left wrist which caused all kinds of freakish problems and eventually lead to 2 corrective surgeries.... Today was also my son's first time on skates. I'm sure we were a sight, but we were out there, laughing hysterically, and loving every minute of it. I can already tell my behind and thighs are going to have nasty things to say to me tomorrow but, still, well worth it! I can honestly say 30 pounds ago I would have given up after going around the rink once....if I was brave enough to even put on skates. So yay! Loving life! (and, importantly, no broken bones!!! WOOHOO!!!)
Hello,
I wasn't really looking forward to 6 month medically supervised weight loss program. What I've learned from reading the blogs and meeting with the nutritionist and nurse is that the goal of the program is not necessarily for you to loss weight or to simply get insurance approval. Although both would be great, the real goal is to get you to change your habits, behaviors and mindset to prepare you to be successful post-op. My realist attainable goals between now and my next appointment are to drink strictly water, no sugar and no fast food. Sound ambitious, I know.
Good luck me:tt2:
:tongue:So I guess what I was doing this week (despite groaning) was helping. I was so happy to see the scale move again. At 24.1 down now. And yes, I keep track of the decimals.
I am trying to find ways to reward myself that aren't food related. I got a mani/pedi and eyebrows waxed, which was nice. I bought myself flowers. I'd like to find rewarding things that don't cost money, too, but I haven't been able to think of any. It would be nice to take a walk but it's pouring rain here in CA.
My co-workers have been great. There's a percentage of them that know and I share my successes with them. We have formed a walking group and walk at lunch if it isn't raining. I also exercise on my elliptical at home - in 15 min. increments (morn/night if I'm really doing well). I can go up to 20 now and tried "hill" and it was pushing my lungs (glad I quit smoking).
I remember reading everyone's blogs here and seeing them say that their only regret was not getting the surgery sooner. I agree. I still have about 80 lbs to lose to goal, but I feel a great sense of confidence - not just for the loss, but because I feel in control...finally. Don't get me wrong, I still struggle. In fact, right now I'm struggling because I'm hungry and I've had liquids so I can't eat for another 30 minutes.
I have my first post-op visit with the surgeon this Friday. His office is pissed at me because I missed the Jan 27 appointment. My advice to them would be don't tell patients about appointments when they're on morphine. I discovered it because I was going through my all-things-gastric folder and saw the card. I have very little recollection of the conversation. It was like, "your doctor will see you in ::fuzzy:: - weeks, okay?" I was a little disturbed that they didn't call to tell me I'd missed an appointment. I wonder how long I would've gone. I think my stitches are dissolvable so it's really a liability check on their part, I think.
First fill will probably be in early March. I'm excited and nervous for it.
Next week is the end of the mushies. Then I work in...soft solids? I'm not sure - I'll have to look it up.
Valentine's Day. Hmm. I'll be onto real food, but I don't know how my husband and I will celebrate. Dinner seems way premature, unless I can find a place that will serve a healthy appetizer.
Oh, gross. Has anyone noticed the "drooling" smilie below their text when posting? It's the second one on the last line. This smiley thing is getting ridiculous. That's right. I said it.
See you at 25.
Okay, so I use them too.
Hey Everyone I am confused on which surgery to have I want the bypass and I am thinking about the LAP-BAND® but I am confused I do not know what to do I do not know if my insurance covers the fills and can someone help me figure out what to do. I am possibly looking at lay offs and then I heard that the new insurance if i get another job would pay for the reconstructive surgery. the LAP-BAND® I do realize is much slower but I would like to lose about 30 lbs per month but do not know if it will be possible. What do guys think?
I had my first appointment on Thurs. I have a appointment for some test in a few weeks. Then it is just waiting for insurance approval. Hope it all goes smoothly!! Excited:smile2:
So I had my first fill yesterday and boy do I feel it. I am having trouble not getting stuck. I had 3 cc's, the doctor tried 4 but I couldn't handle that. I am hoping this help me get on my road to weight loss. I know I still have a waise to go before I find the "sweet spot".
If anyone has advice on what to eat for a few days after the fill that would be great. I am trying to stay on soft/liquids for a few days. But also want to avoid the burping and getting stuck part if possible.
So I've figured out my weakness and what I need to stay away from... CARBS.. carbs carbs and more carbs. I already KNEW they were my weakness, but I didn't realize just how bad it was. I've been doing great post op, losing, etc...
This week I've been moving and having my kitchen boxed up and unavailable I've been eating out lots, fast food... (I know, I know) I thought oh I'll just eat the meat... Which would have been ok, until I realized I need a FILL (SO glad I'm getting one on Monday) and I'm eating everything in sight blah.
Buns, tortillas, rolls, breads... I'd been almost 8 weeks without them and in just one week weight is back in my face.. just one week. That's all it took..
So now that I've seen the other side and how quickly it can come and go.. GONE in the bread and simple carb. GONE GONE GONE and so will my double chin be, hopefully in time for my date.
Liquid diet and working out, my chins were the first thing to go, and the first thing to come back.. EEEEEK!! So I've got the next week to get it together!
Stupid carbs! lol
Just a heads up for everyone, I'm following BG's lead and moving to blogspot. Here's the link: www.dirttrackdiva.blogspot.com
My family members and friends that know I've had surgery weren't able to see these posts since they aren't members of the site. So I thought I'd make it available for everyone to see. There are some posts on there that aren't totally related to surgery, but it's my new home. Hope you all follow me there.
I'll leave the light on for you.
Well, I live in the mid-atlantic region that now finally on the end side of an enormous snowstorm (my county is actually still under a blizzard warning). Due to this I am homebound and thought this would be a good day to accomplish some things.
First I started the huge process of cleaning out my closets, dresser, and laundry room (where I also store a lot of clothes). With the help of some others on here and a phone conversation, I decided it was time to get rid of my 14's. I even got rid of most of my 12's (saved one pair of jeans that still fit great) and quite a few of my 10's. I've only gotten through half of one closet and a couple bins from the laundry room and my jeans drawer, but I feel so much better. I took the time to try on every single item. So here is a picture of the half of closet I did. I usually prefer to wear more spring and summer colors, but now there is a definite lack of color in the wardrobe I have left. I also usually do not hang my jeans, but my closet is looking so bare:-(
About an hour into the closet organizing project, my husband wanted to do another snow shoveling round outside and since I didn't help with the first one, I got dressed and went out to help. I again am amazed at how much better my life is since I've had this surgery. I was able to shovel so much and felt sort of bad about how before losing this weight I never had energy to do much around the house or with my husband.
Overall, a very productive day!
Just would like to say a few words about this wonderful and educational website. I was really in a quandry about whether I should go with GB or VSG. After being on this forum for a few days, I had enough information and became totally comfortable with my decision of going with the VSG. Thank you one and all.
Diane:thumbup:
It's 1:30 am on Sunday and I woke up, wide awake too. Decided to have some coffee after letting my two dogs outside. Weighted myself and was surprised-112.8 kg, down nearly two kg's since yesterday. :thumbup:A new beginning for the next three weeks. My goal now is to be below 100 kg by the next doctor appointment which is 27 Feb 10.
Drinking my coffee slowly so I can savor the aroma. I love coffee. My breakfast prior to church will be a cheeese omelet-two eggs and cheese. After I return from church around 1 pm today, I plan on making salmon cakes (3oz)-my first time. Should be tasty with a veggie at supper time(1/2 c). When I feel any hunger today, I will ride my stationary bike for 1 hour, then sip on water for the remainder of the night. That's my routine for today. Feeling great this morning.
Up early this morning and traveled by bus and subway to the doctor in Seoul Korea. :thumbup:Arrived there about 10ish and weighted in at 114.4 kg. Then it was time to head to the room where I was to receive my FILL. I laid on my back and pulled my shirt up, while the doc prepared the solution. Another 2 cc's for me. I watched him fill the needle, which was 5 inches long-WOW! I kept saying this is a piece of cake, just hold my breath and whammo he will be done. Guess what bandster's I did not feel the needle pierce the skin this time--no pain. Within a few seconds it was done. I proceeded to the waiting room so I could drink some water. Before I left for my long trip home I wanted to be sure I could drink water comfortably. After three drinks, I could not drink any more for a few more minutes. I felt RESTRICTION. Yes this is it. I waited for about 20 minutes to drink more water and all was ok. I then headed out of the office for my journey back home. At the bus terminal we decided to eat lunch, I order beef soup with rice and the wife had noodles with rice and egg. She gave me the egg. After about 15 min eating I was full. Could not eat anymore--knew it. I am my wife did about 4 hours of shopping and walking around before we went home. The bus driver made a 3.5 hour trip in 2.5 hours, great for us, as we got home by 6:20 pm during daylight. I am ready for my next 20 pounds for the next three weeks. Bandsters, I have a 11cc band and now I have 4 cc's in it. Feeling comfortable and tight right now, drinking water slowly.:thumbup:Newscast: There were 4 new bandster's at the doc's office today.
well so far i feel pretty good, i am able to get up and walk around and keep liquids down.just having numbness in left arm from time to time.has this happened to anyone els?
I lost 19lbs my first 2 weeks and 4 the 3rd week and only 2 this past week... I have been noticing that I can actully eat more lately, although I still try not to. I think i am ready for a fill.
I had my surgery in Mexico, so I have to wait until I am 6 weeks post op to have my fill through the local clinic... they won't do it until then.
In the meantime... any words of advice to keep me on track.
I am struggling with the excercise, but have walked the past 2 days at work... problem is we walk and get chi tea... which is 180 calories I would otherwise do without... but I want the excuse to walk.
and down 30 lbs. I can't believe it. Some days are hard, others are easier. Today was an easier day. Still I know I made a great decision. 30 lbs? Really! 30 lbs! :001_tt2:
Finally! I'm back online. So sorry, it's been so long, but my life has been CRAZY lately! However, through it all, I just keep thinking how much better everything is! Honestly, and maybe it's because I'm a recovering addict (YES, I said it! I am an addict...a recovering addict...a food addict, and yep, food addiction can ruin your life as easily as any other addiction can!) that I am just so damn grateful for every single day of "sobriety." And let me tell you, I don't think anyone is as grateful for sobriety as an addict that's relapsed, gotten back up, and reclaimed their lives.
I am a firm believer that out of every horrible situation, something beautiful is born, and the beauty of topping out at 271lbs is finding your own truth and standing back up one more time.
Yes, I am unemployed, denied my unemployment benefits, preparing for a wrongful termination lawsuit, had a flat tire yesterday, getting ready to perform my annual fundraiser for AIDS awareness, I have to do my own roots, the puppy isn't housebroken, I don't get to go to the George Strait concert...all of this WITHOUT SUGAR, but by GOD, I'm not FAT ANYMORE!
My life is so good, I can't belive it's mine! My surgeon hadn't seen me since I was three months out, and when I went in for a fill he went on and on about how proud he is. And, get this; he wants me to speak to groups getting ready to be banded!''
So hang in there, brothers and sisters. Life is beautiful and you can do this!
P.S If you wanna', I have some WLS vids on youtube; That Crazy Fat Chick. But, be warned; I don't play. I tell it like it is.
Kisses!
Celebrate every lost ounce!
How do you get unstuck on the scales??? I workout 4-5 days a week, I got my fill 3 days ago, I'm getting my protein in, I don't snack, however I don't quite get all my water in. I talk soo much all day long at work, I constantly have something to drink in front of me but know I don't get enough. I've lost tons of inches, but the scale has been the same for 6 weeks, up and down the same 3 pounds but basically stuck. Has anyone one else had a scale plateau for 6 weeks? My surgery was 11/4/9, my first fill was 2/3/10. I'm not giving up but I am frustrated. People say but how many inches have you lost? 8 off my hips, 7 off my waist, 8 off my ribcage and 0 off my breasts. I'm still not out of 16 pants, ughhh.
I have been keeping on track very well the past month. I lost 12.8 LBS for the month of January, WooHoo! I have been working out one hour a day for 5-6 days a week. i have so much more energy, i love it!
I will be coming up on my three year bandiversary, so I will be seeing my Doc. in a couple of weeks, i am hoping to get a fill, it's been over a year, I am 28 LBS. from goal. I am so ready to be there.
People ask me"would you do it all again" and i quickly respond with, " yes! without the band I would be at my starting weight plus more. i love it!" it does work, you have to know how to use the band it's only a tool and exercising is another very important piece to burning the fat and keeping it off.
I am not to goal yet but I am so loving life so much more, it is all so worth it. Thanks to my friends on here without your support it would be so much harder.
Ok Been feeling really dizzy latetly. Been having killer headaches to. Went to reg dr today and he told me that he feels that I may have a problem with my metoblic rate and that I may be getting migranes. Had a horrible headache the last two days worse I ever had and then today I feel like Im drunk,. Wierdest feeling in the world when your not . Has anyone else had these problems? Been banded since Oct 15 and havent lst for a bout 2 weeks now Wierd that this all started about the time I quit losing.... Help
You read the boards, and everyone talks about 'the third week stall'. Well, mine is here- the scale has been 179, 178, 177, 178, and 178.8 this week. And no amount of reading could prepare me for the ANGER I FEEL TOWARDS THE DARN SCALE. I mean seriously, did I spend close to 10K, time off work, have a dollar of a stomach to lose 14.3 pounds????
I hope this stall breaks soon. In the meantime, how did everyone cope with a stall???
I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
