Still in the hospital. Still very nauseated. Can't move for fear of dry-heaving! Doc comes in about 2 o'clock and tell me how well I'm doing:confused1:. He said nausea from anesthesia last from 12-18 hours for those people like me so it should be about done and it was. After nausea passed I really felt okay. They had those things on my lower legs that inflate and deflate. They plug into the bed so I could not get out of bed without help unplugging those stupid things. By evening I was just mad because I was tethered to the bed! I was feeling pretty good. DH stayed the night again (the sweet thing!)
I my name is Karen and i was banded on Feb. 8 2010. When i was at the hospital my chest hurt alot my doctor said it was normal because i had tubes down my throat. Since being home I have been getting really bad gas pains, so i been walking at the mall on at the gym, everytime I move I get a shortness of breath, as well I feel it alot more when i try to burb. I talked to the nurse and she said it is normal. I am truly not trying to freak out and I know and anticipated that there would be some discomfort and abnormalities going on with my body, but I didn't anticipate this. Have anyone experience the same thing and if so where there meds to help with the chest pains because the one my doctor prescribed does nothing for my chest pains I am sure it would help for my stomache if it hurt but i don't have pains where my incessions are on my stomache so drinking the med in my opinion is useless.
Hi! I am new here. I am suppose to get my surgery in April. I do not have an offical date yet. I have been to my all day evaluation, had blood draw done, and started a diet given by dietician. Today is my 5th day on the diet. Sunday will mark one week. By my scale I have lost 2lbs. Hopefully more will come off before my next appointment in March. I have decided to have the vertical sleeve gasterotomy done. Just trying to collect as much information as I can before surgery. Hopefully my approval will come soon.. I know be patient as my mom would say..:w00t:

"If your body's not right, the rest of your day will go all wrong. Take care of yourself." :tongue_smilie:
Well..it's official. I signed up for my first seminar. I am really looking forward to hearing what the surgeon has to say. Of course this has caused my inner detective to come out. I have done more comparing and reading about lap bands in the last week that....maybe I can give the seminar myself..heehee :tongue_smilie:. Ok..OK...I still have lots to learn, but that's ok.....I am looking forward to it. I guess my biggest question is...What is actually the big difference between the LAP-BAND® brand and the realize brand? Does one cost more than the other? So...it looks like I better start writing these questions down so I don't forget them when I actually get to the seminar. I am also getting a head start on the 6 month medically supervised diet, my appointment is next month...yay me! :w00t:
My 18 year old daughter and I just had our surgery two days ago. We came home yesterday are both really sore. Standing up and laying down are two major challenges. I am feeling so many different things (none of which is hunger) that I am not sure what is normal. I know that a lot of my aches have to do with the air in my body and I can't wait for it to pass. Still practicing deep breaths because my lungs feel achy. Its weird because I think this is all normal, but I wonder. I know everyone's experience is unique, but I didn't expect this amount of discomfort. While I can say I got up a few hours after surgery and am walking around I can not say that doing this is not work. Pain medication doesn't really seem to help. Don't get me wrong I feel better than the day of, but it seems like each pain that leaves is replaced by an ache I hadn't noticed before. How long will the discomfort last?:tongue_smilie:
I got my date yesterday from the surgical nurse who sets up the surgery dates. I just couldn't wait anymore, so I called to see if he could roughly tell me when he thinks I will be informed (not expecting to hear anything until March)...to my surprise...he told me May 7th quick enough? I said Oh Ya!! That would be GREAT!
So, I go to the USA on vacation in April, come back April 30th and one week later, BAM!
I am so excited, and now obsessing all over again HAHA!
:w00t:
So I had my 2nd fill and welp yeah it worked, I'm not hungry AT ALL like never.. I make myself eat only because I know I'm supposed to, but I have that satiated feeling constantly which is great until I actually eat and I/my body/brain has a hard time saying when to stop because I've felt "full" for days now...
In other news, I joined the gym.. yeah we'll see how this goes... For $50 bucks a month I BETTER go.. lol
NO MILK
NO SUGAR
NO ALCOHOL
NO CAFFINE
NO CARBONATION
EVER
Two weeks prior to surgery I was on a liquid diet, I lost 10 % of my weight 24 lbs. I was excited for the loss, but I am still on a liquid diet for 1 week post op, no protein shakes. At least pre-op I had the protein to fill me up, but I am so hungry now 3 days post-op. I am weak, grumpy and not happy at all. This is my Dr.s menu, I wonder if he has ever tried to survive on this little. I know I am complaining, but I am so frustrated!:tongue_smilie:
WELL, THE MOOD SWINGS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD FOR ME. I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT...STILL HUNGRY BUT I'VE GOTTEN TO THE REALIZATION THAT IT JUST AIN'T HAPPENING...I'VE FOUND SOME COOL RECIPIES THAT I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY..AFTERWARDS....SO..GOT MY UPS AND DOWNS..
THE BAD PART~I CHEATED..
2 SUSHI ROLLS..I COULDNT HELP IT..THEY WERE SCREAMING MY NAME..:w00t:..PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME I DIDNT SCREW UP SO BAD...:tongue_smilie:
I PROMISED MYSELF I WOULDNT..BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR ME WAS NOT TO COMPLAIN..I'M DEALING WITH THINGS..
BOUGHT MY PJ'S FOR THE HOSPITAL STAY..
IM PARANOID ABOUT MY MESS UP.I COULD HAVE HAD A BURGER, A STEAK BUT I CHOSE SUSHI..OF ALL THINS..(#*$&)#$(*!!!!
I CAN DO THIS!!!
(doing the running man, and the moonwalk) can ya see me? lol
I got my time...630 AM thank God cause I told them, I am NOT a happy hungry person! So waiting all day for it, I would have been sick and mean. :tongue_smilie: not a good way to treat your nurses.
So I am ready. Got my kids Valentines cards made, and their gifts ready, just in case I am not all chipper on Saturday. But I think I will be all good.
Still not nervous. Dentist is worse for me.
MORE this weekend! :w00t:
Hi everybody! I moved here to TX where the eatin's good and the waistline has expanded. Quick story bout me, I had lost 100 lbs on my own 13 yrs ago. Kept it all off for 10 yrs. Now I've had a son, 14mo old now, and I've gained 80 lbs back:mad0:. Can't get it off on my own this time, so I was going to have Lap-band. I had a consult last night with my doctor and he seems to think vertical sleeve is the way to go. My BMI is 34. I have been trying to find some of the disadvantages, but all the comments on here are sooo positive. Not that I don't hope for the best, but I would like to know about some of the bad things that could go wrong or have gone wrong for the few with bad outcomes. Anybody have any comments?
Hi all
Well surgery went fairly well, it took 3 hours, I had my spleen removed several years ago and so they had to take care of all the scar tissue and then I also had a hiatal hernia they repaired. I came home the next day and have been lying low ever since. Drinking my protein shakes and sugar free jello. Yesterday I had chicken broth and that tasted good. I'm not finding myself hungry so having to remind myself to drink. Overall feeling really good, the gas pains from them blowing me up so big are hard and painful but getting better. I woke up this morning better able to move without a lot of pain and just feeling better.
I go to my other doc tomorrow for some post op blood work it will be good to get out and about a bit.
Thanks for all the support and kind words. I haven't stepped on the scales yet but day of surgery I weighed 270 which was down 19 pounds from my required pre op weight loss of 15. That felt good! So 100 to go! That's my first goal, we will see where I'm at then and where I want to go.
Be well all

I've been living on these Optifast protein shakes for 4 days now and I love them. It is like having desert 5 times a day and I have not been hungry...yet.
Better yet, I have dropped 5 pounds in the past 3 days.
I'm down 81 pounds since I started and I am showing no signs of slowing down. I'm feeling better than I have in years and should be close to 100 pounds down by surgery.
I finished cardiac rehab yesterday. I started on October 12th weighing 346 pounds with a body fat percentage over 61%. My final weight was 285 with a body fat percentage of 46%.
I haven't been approved by insurance yet but have a surgery date. If they deny me, I won't mind but I'd like to get this over with before I slip and start gaining the weight back as I have in the past. I can put wight on in record time. It only takes a diet of pizza and Guinness.
The first picture is 2 years old and the second taken yesterday. It is starting to show a little. For instance, that is the same shirt and there is no more fear of popping a button and putting someone's eye out. Also, I don't have to wedge myself into the chair.
PS. My secret is out, my profile pic is 10 years old :tongue_smilie:
PPS. I am tilting my head in the second pic to try and assimilate the same position as the first. It is not because my brain is so big and heavy as many of you would assume.
I had my surgery on the 2nd, and I m finally feeling 98% normal, still tired a lot.
I don't even feel the port, I hope that is OK! I started eating the full liquids and cream soup, I never know how Good that cream of chicken could taste lol
When I had my 2nd fill I would get that "full" feeling....now that I've had my 3rd fill I don't really get that full feeling but rather the feeling that "nothing else will go down my throat" because I feel it building up and I know that if I keep eating, it's gonna come back up. So I was just wondering if any of you guys have the same feeling? Also has anyone ever ordered anything from that website bariatriceating.com? I've looked at it several times contemplating ordering a few of the pre-mixed drinks but they are pretty expensive and want to make sure that I would like them first. Any advice would be appreciated. :tongue_smilie:
Hi All,
I have to ask some questions... I am scheduled for my first fill on 2/22. My band is 4 weeks old now and I know I need this fill more than anything right now. Even tho I am not able to eat as much as I did before surgery I still know in my heart that I am able to eat way more than I should right now! I want my fill but am so very nervous about it! I hear that some get numbing medication for their fills and some do not. At this point I really don't even know if my surgeon does or does not offer anything to numb. My port is right above my belly button. Anyone else got that? I also, am getting nervous about having the gas pains after eating again. I seem to have developed a major burping and farting syndrome since getting my band.
Ok youcan tell me to shut the heck up... just get the fill and don't worry so much. But could you please tell me some of your experiences too!
Do you or don't you get numb? Help?! I'm starting to worry
I can definitely feel a difference when I eat now. I just finished my kiddo's breakfast (about three mini pancakes, a bite of egg and a couple of blueberries) and I am stuffed.
I started exercising yesterday. I wanted to go to the gym but didn't want to deal with packing a bag and hunting down my membership card. I just went for a walk instead. My once-broken ankle does not appreciate that.
I also got food stuck last night and it was definitely chewed properly first. Now, I know what everyone meant by "slime" ew!
In the meantime, I am going to snuggle up with my sick toddler on the sofa. We are watching big snow fall in Texas. That is always a beautiful site because it is so rare.
Yahoo, I survived the surgery and am on my way to a new me. Feeling pretty good actually. Most pain is from gas and port site, other than that no real pain. Trying to walk and take it easy.
That's it! I finally broke through a plateau I was stuck in since Christmas! Been up and down the same 3 pounds, then got a ravenous appetite for a couple of days, cut back on my hour cardio workout and only did 30 minutes, but it was enough to lose 1.5 lbs and break through! Yippee!! My doctor suspected I wasn't eating enough to match my workouts, so I caved and ate some more calories, increased water by one water bottle and increased protein and calories. It worked! Dang never would have thought that would do it. So I am going into a new 10 pound increment on the scale. Haven't been here in years! What doesn't help is two pairs of pants that I had just wiggled my way into shrunk big time in the wash by like 2 sizes. I could barely zip them, so it messed with my brain and told me I was gaining inches! Same thing happened to my 11 year old son. I had to grab him some clothes for boy scouts and he tried to put on his jeans and they were shorter and he couldn't even button them. Poor fellow, he cried that he had to wear the red shorts that he had on. So I know it just wasn't me. I just need to pull my dryer out and clean the lint out of the back. Now any advice on how to do that? This port thing has me scared that it might pop out if I put too much weight on my stomach moving it:blink:!
Got up early. Excited. Not really than anxious. Supposed to be at hospital by 8:00 a.m. Was told surgery would be 9:30 or 10. Well they didn't come and get me until 11:15. Then in holding for a good bit longer. Lost tract of timeline. I had a pretty good size hiatal hernia that the surgeon repaired as well as the VSG. I awoke in recovery feeling like I could not breathe. I remember I kept saying, "I can't breathe!" And the nurses kept telling me that I was breathing. Heard the doc in the background saying it was the pressure from hernia repair that made me feel that way. Don't remember going to my patient room. Do remember waking up very nauseated. Very sick for about 12 hours. I new the doc didn't want me throwing up but you know, some things you just can't control. Dry heaved quite a bit the rest of the day and throughout the night. DH stayed with me (the sweet thing!)
I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
