Nervous about the first fill!!!

Hi All,

I have to ask some questions... I am scheduled for my first fill on 2/22. My band is 4 weeks old now and I know I need this fill more than anything right now. Even tho I am not able to eat as much as I did before surgery I still know in my heart that I am able to eat way more than I should right now! I want my fill but am so very nervous about it! I hear that some get numbing medication for their fills and some do not. At this point I really don't even know if my surgeon does or does not offer anything to numb. My port is right above my belly button. Anyone else got that? I also, am getting nervous about having the gas pains after eating again. I seem to have developed a major burping and farting syndrome since getting my band.

Ok youcan tell me to shut the heck up... just get the fill and don't worry so much. But could you please tell me some of your experiences too!

Do you or don't you get numb? Help?! I'm starting to worry

I've had 3 fills and have not had any numbing medication on any of them....it's really not bad at all. I remember how scared I was the first time I went in for my first fill too, but afterwards I was like "really, this was it". Good luck with everything!

I have had one fill. Get my second next week. The day after my surgery I got an unfill of the little amount that was in the band to start with. That one hurt a little just cuz I was so tender from the surgery being the day before. My first fill was a breeze. You just fill a little stick and that is it. You will be fine. Don't worry!

I am not even banded yet and it was one of the first questions I asked me surgeon.

Give his office a call and ask, "will I be numbed before my fill?"

It will only take you a minute and will relieve some of your anxiety.

If you asked to be numbed is the best. Sometimes it is hard for them to locate the so called bulleye. But as for being scared I was also, now I know and its a breeze. I dont look down cause my port is kinda deep they have to use a 8" needle so its better not to look! Good luck

I have had two fills. I felt the first one because the doctor had a little trouble finding the spot he wanted. The 2nd one was over in about 2 seconds - didn't feel it and didn't even need a band-aid. It's no worse than a shot and, as I recall, certainly better than when they put the IV in my hand before surgery. Don't worry.
