Protein Question

I do not do protein shakes. I absolutely hate them. I really tried at the begining when I first got banded because I was not allowed to have anything mushy. I know when I get my first fill, perhaps 9/1, my doctor will tell me to go back to liquids and that would include the protein shakes before hitting the pureed stage, but I still hate them.   I am 8 weeks post-surgery and get all of my protein from regular food. How about you? What is everyone else doing? Please let me know - protein shakes or not? Strictly protein from your meats, cheese and eggs?   I am curious to see what comments I get. And I hope I get a lot.

9 Days Post-op

Short and sweet today: Getting much more water down at a time;
Still sticking mostly to fluids but have had some foods that are more on the pureed side - i.e., well-cooked rice, mashed chick peas with yoghurt.
Wounds are feeling pretty good. Only minor discomfort when I move in some positions. Still have blisters but have taken all of the strips off and things look... ok, I think?
Was able to sleep on my wounds on my left side last night - heaven!
Still extremely weak and easily exhausted. Cannot wait until that part is over.
Very rare/minor shoulder-tip pain still. Nothing unmanageable anymore though.
That's all I think for today

Pizza and Subs and Chocolate...oh my!!!

Hey friends! :tt2: This week at work has been interesting. Some evil person keeps bringing in junk food to "share" with everyone.:wink2: I think it's nice, but I do wish they would consider others that shouldn't /can't have that stuff. It seems the further along in my banding, the easier it is to slack from proper eating. My mind flips to "diet" mode and looks in the mirror and says...."You look fine, why keep watching what you eat?" I hate it when my brain does that. I've had that problem for years. I lose a few pounds and then think "pffft:tt2: you're ok." I know reality is that I did this because I was physically ill and I don't want to be that again! I need to kick it into gear, stop being a butthead and do what needs to be done!!!! I WILL SUCCEED!! Down with chocolate!....ohhh wait...scratch that:blush: (a small bit now and again is ok:wink2:) Hugs and good thoughts! Tina

4 weeks 2 days out... banded 7/20/2010

So jealous of the people banded the same week as I that will are filled or getting filled in the coming days. I won't get my first fill until the 30th. So often in the past weeks I wanted to reverse this. I had so many questions, concerns, scares and I didn't want to burden my doctors office. Then I found this cite and answers to my questions. I think a lot of the answers here are even more honest then what I get from the staff. No one prepared me for the I am now surgically healed, no restriction weeks. I literally thought I had completely stretched my pouch and had a melt down. I now realize that I feel no restriction because I have no restriction. That will come with the fill. Question. When you were four weeks out from surgery, but not yet filled, how much could you eat? I am eating about 4-5 ounces 4-5 times a day. I know that physically I could eat more but I try VERY VERY hard not too. I do have actual hunger at times this week. ~Helena

My first fill experience/ 10 cc band with 2cc fill

Today I received my first fill and it was not as bad as I had anticipated it being. My doctor is a very cool person and he has a way of talking you through your fears of the unknown. I really don't have a problem with needles, but I did not want to be stuck multiple times as I originally thought would happen. I learned that I have a standard seize band that is 10 cc, and I was given 2 cc of saline in my band today. My doctor took me up to 3cc just to let me know how it felt to have an over fill. He then took 1 cc out and I was able to swallow just fine. He was really proud of my weight lost, but he also wanted me to focus more on my fat percentage and not just the weight lost itself. I was put on a three day post adjustment diet to ensure everything was working the way it should. He also encouraged me to buy one of those scales that calculate your body fat mass along with your weight. On the way home from the Hospital I felt a little pressure in my chest area, but it appears to be fading away at this time. I do feel like my diet is very bland at times so I pulled up some food ideas that are high in protein from the net just to mix things up a little. I don't want to feel like this is something I can't do, because I know I can and will do this. Since I now have my first fill, I don't want to feel like my weight lost will slow down. I know that sounds crazy! I really want to keep myself on a consistent weight reduction cycle. I feel really good about the things I am doing right now, and people are really being supportive towards me in this process of losing weight. I had my first appointment with my Podiatrist today, and he gave me a boot to sleep in and a cortisone shot in my heel to relieve some of my pain and pressure. Hopefully, once I get my heel pain under control my exercise can increase. At this point it is just so hard to apply excessive pressure on my feet. The pain is just too much to bare at times. In three more weeks I will be considered for my second fill. I really do thank God that I don't have any type of complications with my new found friend "Allergan" my band!

searching for advice

Hey guys, got a question, I know that the goal with the protein shakes is to get the max protein intake, however with so many out there, Im confused... On the paper work from my surgeon, they give you examples such as boost, ensure and slim fast... after reading the labels on them, i was taken back by how much sugar and carbs are in those brands, and choose to go with EAS because it has 17g of Protein, 2g of sugar, and 1g of carb.... Im starting to wonder however if the purpose of the high sugar drinks were to help supplement for what we are not getting from food... Any thoughts?

Naming my band....

Ok I have seen a lot of posts referring to their band by name so I thought I will have fun with this.. My band is now named "Lolita" because I figure I have an inner Lolita :wink2:) and my band is going to help me find her beneath the fat! I would not be offended if anyone out there borrowed the name because I think it kinda rocks!! Silly yes but lets have fun with it. What is your Lap Band name??

Throwing up

Hi, my name is Rose and I was banded June 30, 2009. I have lost 94lbs and feel good. However, there are some days where I throw up almost everything I eat. I do not eat bread, tortillas etc. Some days I can tolerate a Lean Cuisine pasta and the next day I can't. I am becoming frustrated and don't know what to eat anymore that will not cause me to throw up...does anyone else have this issue??? PS This is my first time posting anything on this site!!!

It is raining! NO BEACH TODAY~ TEA Party instead?

:frown:Well so much for the beach day, it has been pouring for two days now, so my granddaughter and I have played dolls, dressup and today it will be the "Tea Party" time.   God has given us this time together and I will not grumble about the rain, we must need it.   Trying to stay on plan with a three year old in the house is harder than I thought! She wants Chicken Nuggets for lunch! Here we go, Fast Food places are places I try to stay away from now, they tempt me too much! I can't have fries now, they come right back out and no bread, so what will I get a thin piece of hamburger meat? No thanks, I'll save my money. May get a happy meal with Chicken Nuggets???   Have a great day all, and my God bless your lives today.

I've made a decision...

After many long discussions with my hubby and my family, I have decided to go ahead and get the gastric sleeve operation. I wanted to get the lapband but since I live in Canada and the nearest fill center is an 8 hour drive..... I did all the calculations and decided to get the sleeve. It has much less maintainance for me.   The pre-op and post-op diets are very similar. I called the facility where i am having my surgery (Sept 2) and they said it was no problem to switch procedures. The cost is not much more . So considering having to travel 8 hours stay the night in a hotel and doing this several times a year plus the cost of all the fills, I decided to go this route.   I hope to stay on this site as everyone is SO AMAZING!!! I went on the gastric sleeve site and well...... lets just say you all are such beautiful and motivating people.   I'll keep blogging to help me stay motivated and to read all of your wonderful stories.   Take care, Nikki:smile2:

5 weeks Post-Op and feeling pretty good

I am five weeks Post-Op today. I had my first fill on Monday, 1 cc was added. I had been having quite a bit of pain around the port incision, but when I went in for my appt, the doc said I had a lot of fluid built up in my abdomen. He took off several big syringes full before he put in the fill. It felt better right away. Been doing good ever since. He said all that fluid was the reason. I am feeling a little restriction now. Not too much though. I go back on Monday for another check up, maybe another fill.

Little Victories

Observations with a smile........   - a regular towel wraps around me without a major gap!   - my friend gave me two pairs of pants with tags that were too big for her and they fit! I have clothes to wear!!   - I did 1000 situps on the ball (over a 90 minute period). Might not be able to move tomorrow, but got them done   - Someone at the gym said I looked "smaller". LOL   - I found a pair of cute capris in the back of the closet (pays to clear it out lol) that I probably wore 5 years ago. I have them on today!! This is the last time they will work. I guess I must have been about 240 then? I'm about 230 now so that's reasonable. My bottom half is shrinking much faster than the top half (arms mostly) with the exception of.....     Bad thing (but oh so typical!). My bras are huge! My poor boobies are already non-existent. That is just not right! LOL.   Have a great day everybody

Well my Drs visit went well i lost 7 lbs without excersize i was so happy and what makes me happier is i am under the 200 lbs woot woot ! I was worried as i am unable to really excersize but am getting around still doing things. they only gave me a half of a cc and didnt really want to they think i am very close to my spot . I think i am to but i still wanted a fill so far so god i dont think it was a wrong move. Now the Dr doesnt want to see me for 3 months ugggggg thats so long i so liked going and getting on the scale every month at the drs office i do have a scale but its not the same as stepping on the scale at the drs office. My friends have been telling me to get rid of my clothes and start wearing more fitted things which is hard to do even though i have lost weight and need to wear smaller sizes i still see myself as a size 20-22 but am happy to say i am fitting into some 16 pants and XL tops yipee! I am also making a pile of my clothes that are to big to donate the pile is getting bigger. Well thats it for my blog kinda rambbled alot this morning. Hope everyone has a great day
