Day 8 Of Preop Surgery

Last post was Tuesday November 22. On Wednesday I recieved the call from the dr's office to schedule my surgery date for 12/07/11. yey!!! I have done very well on my shakes. Of course Thanksgiving was a bomb, but I did a shake for breakfast, we ate around 12:30 and I did eat dinner, but I kept it under control. Shake for supper . Friday, I did very well shakes all day and for supper I had a small go wrap from wendys' since I was traveling 3 hrs to Jackson, MS. SAturday I had a scrambled egg and a half of a grilled chicken sandwich. I am going to have to figure out what to do on trips. I dont want to eat like that anymore. so its early sunday morning, I will do all liquids today and weigh in when I wake up. Hopefully I have lost a couple of pounds since the dr visit. Alot of people have commented and asked if I am losing weight, so thats always a good sign. I also need to start excercising. I read up if you put on a pedometer, it is the healthiest to try to get 10,000 steps per day. This equals about 5 miles. So Im going to get me one in the morning and start tracking. Its been a long time since I walked, so my legs are going to scream at me!! lol

Finally, Some Healing

I am one week and one day out from surgery. I came home with my drain still in place. Today my Dr. told me the drain can come out on Monday. Thank goodness!!! Hiding this tube and drain has been a royal pain. Still tired though but right now I am taking one blessing at time.

Day 3 Pre-op Diet & Side Effects

Im on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Its not been too hard--hardest part is the giving up diet coke!! I am wondering if anyone else has these side effects of being cold & so so tired!! I am almost never cold & I am just chilled all the time right now!! And I cant stop yawning---Im even taking naps. 9 days to go!

Nausea

Hey friends, I need some help. I am 8 months into my lap band surgery and this week a new thing started. When I wake up in the morning I ma tremendously nauseous. then I get up out of the bed and the nausea goes away. All day no nausea then I get back in the bed and lay down and the nausea comes back. I had to try to sleep in my recliner last night because it was so bad, but i don't sleep well anywhere but my bed. Has anyone else had this problem?

Black Friday

I made it through Thanksgiving without overdoing it. I realize that I don't have to start the liquids until December 8th, but I want to be as good and as healthy as possible until that time. No big last hurrah or anything because it is the compilation of many "last hurrahs" that got me where I am right now...unhealthy. I realize that food needs to be looked at as fuel and not as something that I am giving up or depriving myself of. I will have to change the way I eat and even eliminate entirely some things I like to eat. But, that depravation won't be so bad as I see a new, healthier me emerge. I have so many reasons to get healthy and I am completely motivated. I want to be the best version of myself that I can be. Here is to the holidays and the biggest, best Christmas gift of my life, my Lap Band Surgery.   Take care, Jen

5 Days To Go...

5 days to go till I am banded. Woot! I am down 12 pounds since Nov 1st. I am currently on antibiotics for bronchitis. The cough is going away - slowly... I hope it is gone b4 I have stitches in my tummy. That could hurt!! My surgery is 2pm on the 30th.   My parents are coming to watch my 7.5 month old so I get a 4 day break from him. I love him to bits, but who couldn't use a break after 7.5 months?? My husband and I have to fly to Vancouver, BC Canada for the surgery. I live in northern Alberta, Canada. We are staying at a hotel/casino - I figured that would be a good place for walking the gas out after surgery.   I am doing really well on my pre-op diet. I am taking halls for my throat. and every other day I have a hard boild egg... I play a lot of sports and the extra protien cant hurt right?!?!!   I am really excited about next Wednesday!!!!!

1 Week Post Op

Today marks my 1 week post op and what a week it has been. Let me recap in a few important catagories.   Physical I've experience the pain, which in all honesty isn't as bad as I would have expected. If we ignore the day of surgery and the day after, the rest of the week has been ok. I haven't needed any pain meds since the 3rd day post op. Pain has been limited to gas pain and incision site pain, both completely tolerable. The begining of the week I was a bit more tired than usual and I became tired quicker when doing simple activities like walking, each day this gets a bit better. Today I went shopping with my mother, my fitbit says I took around 3500 steps and walked 1.4 miles. My knees feel better, my back feels better, my feet feel better. I am actually sleeping better and waking up feeling as if I slept, no more waking tired. Looking forward to the next week!   Emotional This has been one of the toughest things to deal with, the disappointment in not being able to enjoy the foods I love has hit me pretty hard a few times, always when out. I went to breakfast with my wife and her dad, I assumed that the resturant would have yogurt for me to eat since most do, they didn't. So I sat there with a decaf coffee and a kids sized orange juice while they ate. I don't like eggs and what not, but the smell comming off of their plates was so amazing, it took most of what I had to keep from breaking down into tears. I focused on why I'm doing this and resolved in the fact that I would be able to eat again in a few weeks. The biggest test was Thanksgiving. My family are big eaters, Italian families know how to eat. So I was dreading Thanksgiving at my parents house. The night prior I jumped the gun on my puree phase and attempted some pureed meat pie, a tiny 1/4 inch slice and some beef broth, blended it up, poured it into my 1/4 cup ramekin and heated it up. It looked so nasty, but the taste, after all the liquids and puddings and jello's was so damn amazing. And lucky for me, I didn't have any problems with eating it, I finished the serving a little quick for my liking, but I held off and sure enough, I felt the fullness coming on, but it never got painful, so I knew I hit the mark size wise. This gave me a bit of a bump for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving came and I pureed some turkey with gravy, some corn and potatos and took a 1/2 slice of cranberry sauce about a cup of food in total. We all said our thanks and got to eating. I focused on taking my time, I watched the clock and put my spoon down between "bites". About 20 mins in I knew I should stop, the fullness was just starting to kick up, so I put down my spoon and pushed the plate away. Everyone was suprised by how little I could eat. But they were all impressed. So one more big eating day left and it will be a smooth year.   Weight I saved the best for last. I weighted in at 350 when I finally decided that I had had enough and that diets and yo-yo weight gain/loss had to go. My last appointment with my surgeon I weighted in at 343. The last "official" weight in at my pre-op training class was 336.8. The night before surgery I weighed myself on a medical scale at 335. Pretty good. But these next numbers are amazing. I had surgery on Friday, the following Monday I weighed in at 329, Yesterday, I weighed 324. So from 335 to 324 in 1 week! and all without feeling underfed. This is the motivation I need. I'm feeling the weight loss in my clothes, on my back and knees. It's noticable.   I'm greatful to everyone here for the information and support that you are providing. All comments, both positive and critical are appreciated. I understand that to learn we need to be shown our faults.   Stay Strong LBT!

Ok We Made Thru Thanksgiving ... How Did You Weather Thru It?

Ok turkey day has come and gone. How well did you weather thru it? To my surprise I stayed focus and on track. I really thought I would feel deprived over all the foods I loved to eat during thanksgiving. But I wasn't... I felt good not binging and feeling stuffed. I ate alittle of everything and I was fine. I was worried I would over eat. How did you weather thru thanksgiving?

1st Day Of Pre-op Diet

Today I started my pre-op diet! It wasnt the best scenario to start on Turkey Day, but I made it work. I had to work, so I drank my shakes & by the time for dinner I was ready!! I am thankful that I had some yummy protein for dinner! The shake is not the most flavorful---but I held my breath & drank it down---tried not to smell it either eeewww. The hardest part I think so far has been giving up diet coke. My last one was yesterday & the caffeine withdrawal headache kicked in bad!! ow I met w/the Dr yesterday & got my bag of goodies--shake mix, shaker cup, supplements (which I was told I will be taking for life) exercise band (subtle hint), heart rate monitor (not so subtle hint) & a cd of the instruction manual for my new life. I have the pre-op class on Monday & will be learning about what to expect in the future!!. I am fortunate that I have always been an active person & have really kicked up my workouts over the last 6 months--I think that will help my metabolism kick in & help my recovery. I really like this Dr---he did assure me I would be staying overnite after surgery to make sure there are no problems & they can make any necessary adjustments. Cant wait to see what tomorrow brings! Feeling Frustrated With The Pre Surgery Process

Today I am feeling frustrated with the presurgery process. I was very excited to get the last consult finished. The Dr. Said he's get his consult right over to the program nurse. I called today to see if I can get any info on when they might be thinking about when I might be able to get the surgery done. I get the "its the holiday, and our office probably wont get it for at least a week." I wasw hoping to get this done before Christmas. I also need to make arrangment for being off at work. With having to do the two week liquid diet I am looking at the week right before Christmas. I wish the would have said well let us look at the schedule, if we get the consult back next week and you start liquids after thhanksgiving we can do you in two weeks. I guess that 's alot to expect but I am soooo tired of being fat and tired. I have been working on the pre-op appointments since the beginning of Oct. UHHHGGGGG.     :banghead:

Can't Believe It........

I went for my second adjustment yesterday at which time I got 2 more cc's making the total at 5cc. I done great on liquids yesterday, actually felt full all day. I have to work the next 3 days, so I cooked Thanksgiving dinner today.....ate only about 1/2 cup food total. I have been full most all day on that small amount! I can't believe it. Yyyyaaaayyyy!!!!   Gonna re-reading the rules at every meal and stay true to them (thanks Diane). So glad to have this site with good friends to encourage us.   God's Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Approved Today

I got some great Thanksgiving news today. My surgeon's office called and informed me that I was approved by my insurance to proceed with the lap band procedure. So, officially, I am having the surgery December 22nd. I start the liquid diet on December 8th. So, instead of three weeks of liquids they are having me do 2 weeks. They sent the papers yesterday and got approved today. Wow, that was super fast. So, from the time I went to the lap band surgery seminar to the time I get the actual surgery, the process will have taken 5 months. I am going to enjoy my Thanksgiving, without going nuts. I am going to prepare myself for the change of a lifetime that is about to take place and prepare my family for the changes as well. They are all excited for me and know that they have a part to play too in my success. All are on board. Have a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.   Take care, Jen

Nov 23 - 466 Days Post Surgery

So, its been forever since I've updated. I had a computer issue that my husband 'fixed' for me. So I've since been occupied with getting all my links, documents and iTunes libraries back where they belong. Bless his heart, he means well. I should just quit my bitchin'.   Well, I finally got a job, Thank Heavens! I absolutely love where I'm teaching. There are three teachers on my floor that have all had WLS in the last year or so. I had an issue a couple of weeks ago and found out that I have a (grapefruit sized!) cyst on one ovary. After many pokes, prods, scans and an emergency room visit, it has been determined that I have to have a full hysterectomy next month. Now I'm really nervous! Somehow the surgery for the band wasn't as scary for me as this is. Next week I plan on calling my WL surgeon and seeing if he needs to do any kind of adjusting on the band in prep for the other surgery. In any case my appointment for the next fill (4 days after hysterectomy!) will certainly need to be cancelled/postponed. Crazy stuff!   Other than all that... over a year post surgery and I am still convinced that it was the best thing I've ever done. I have been holding steady right around 200 for about 4 or 5 months now. (Possibly related to growth of enormous cyst? Who knows!) Within the last week or so the scale has finally slipped to about 197. My next goal is at 195. That's where I go from 'obese' to (just) 'overweight.' But while the scale hasn't been moving all this time, the clothes have been changing. I am wearing some size 14's now. I don't think I've worn 14's since college. I certainly don't have the same bod that I had then. (Do any of us, really?) The arms and legs are getting a little baggy. We won't even discuss the boobs! But I'm sort of surprised at how little that actually matters to me.   Enough of all this... I have Thanksgiving cooking to do! Gobble Gobble !!

Day 1 of Pre-op Liquid Diet
 

Here I Go......

Well, here I am Day 1 of the liquid pre-op diet. Yes, I know, I can't believe myself that I'm starting the day before Thanksgiving. But, oh well, I wanted to get the surgery as soon as possible. Which, BTW is on December 8. I'm so excited.   So far, I've done well. I just drank my 2nd Optifast shake. They taste great. I'm drinking my water and had my coffee this morning.   Will write more as the day progresses.

Moving Right Along

I haven't posted anything in several days...probably a week...but I have bronchitis and have felt like poo. Starting to feel better now, thank goodness and looking forward to the holidays.   My daughter is coming in today and I'm so excited! The only thing that could make it better would be if her brother could come too. He has a wedding this weekend and a rehearsal supper tomorrow, so that is not possible. Wow, it is not fun when they grow up and have their own lives. LOL   So anyway, I found out last week that the only 2 surgical dates left, during this calendar year, for my surgeon is Nov 28 and Dec 12. I also found out that I can't see my neurologist for clearance until Dec 5. Since that is only one week before the Dec 12 date, I doubt if insurance will approve me that fast. So it looks like it will be January. Ah well. I did find out that my insurance provider is NOT changing, so that takes the worry out of the equation as far as rushing to get it done this year. I'm not too upset about it. I'm really proud of myself. Delayed gratification is NOT something I am good about, LOL, but I think because I know this is going to be a lifelong change for me....It is calming. I'm more relaxed about it. Like...it's going to happen...so I don't need to stress. And the fact that it will be lifetime...just....I dunno...corny, maybe but it really puts me at peace.   I'm so excited and so thrilled! I am going to enjoy this holiday season with my family...and NOT shy away from the camera. Cuz...I know it only gets better from here!!   Movin right along!!!!
