Over the last couple of days my emotions have been extreme. Extremely depressed, crying and feeling overwhelmed. I think it's just life. A lot is going on, I'm going back to work on 12/06, I work in a very stressful environment. Plus only two people at work with know I hard the surgery. Which is going to be it's own struggle.

Still struggling with this new way of eating. I'm struggling with getting enough Water and Protein. I don't feel like I'm losing enough weight. My sleeping schedule is backwards. I'm awake at night and sleep during the day. Once I'm a sleep, it's all I want to do. And this isn't even all of it.

I'm just overwhelmed.

I'm wondering how some of you dealt with this kind of stress?

Ok breathe. Welcome to hormone fluctuations due to weight loss. This is all normal. Hide your scale and stop comparing your weight loss to everyone elses. The fact that you are emotional proves you are burning fat which stores hormones. You are doing fine. Just keep to the program and focus on Water and Protein. Period.

The sleep thing? Me too. And if I sleep I have nightmares. Totally normal. Your body is freaking out still.

@@L.Harmony - I totally agree with @@Yaberhoo - you need to breathe, and breathe deep.

Contact your doctors office and see about taking an OTC for sleep, Melatonin or Tylenol PM?

You had surgery about 5 weeks ago - did your doctor tell you that you would lose ___lbs by this date ____? I doubt it.

We all lose at different rates. Stay focused on hydrating and Protein and get your sleep cycle closer to normal. Keep a bottle of Water with you at ALL times, sip. Set a timer/clock/cell phone to alarm every two hours and check your Water intake to keep you hydrated. Eat Protein FIRST.

You work in corrections, according to your profile, so I don't know if your schedule is rotated.

Lack of sleep, plus the hormone flush, we go thru early out can make you feel really "pissy" or overwhelmed <breathe>.

I had trouble the first few weeks. I would cry one minute and be laughing the next and the dr kept changing the dose of my anti-depressant. I was an emotional roller coaster, but I am now 5 months out (76 downs down) and off my anti-depressant. I am now only on my Vitamins and a stool softener. You will feel much better after your mind realizes what is going on, just takes a month or two. Hang on and enjoy the ride as when you get to the downhill side you will enjoy!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
