Can't lose due to my eating choices

Recommended Posts

I can't stop eating the wrong things. I feel like I should have had a different surgery. My dr says the sleeve fit for me but I'm constantly hungry and craving all the bad things I used to. I don't know what to do now. I'm 3 weeks out and only 10lbs down. It's getting to the point that I'm getting depressed about it. Could it be my cymbalta causing all the hunger? (I take it for nerve pain). Frustrated.

Hi it's really hard I know the cravings may always be there unfortunately we have to resist the urge to eat them fill up with Protein first and Vegs have healthy things on hand to snack on the less u eat bad things the less u will want them find things to do to keep yourself occupied boredom invites temptation if u have a hobby do that take a walk work out walk the dog clean closets whatever the more u lose the less u will want to eat weight gaining foods that aren't good for you don't keep stuff in the house that tempts you that helps me a lot if it's not here I can't eat it only wish I'd done that years ago lol

I take Cymbalta for nerve pain also. The first few weeks when I was so restricted I craved everything bad for me. As I have been able to eat solids I have given in to a couple of cravings and I was so sick that I will not do that again. Even though I had to see a psychiatrist as part of pre op work I still continue to work with my regular therapist every two weeks like I had been doing for a year before surgery to work with my issues with food. I am lucky because my niece is a Registered Dietitian, my sister in law is a health and wellness coach and I have a militant husband who will rat me out to them when I slip and these 2 women know me well enough to know how to motivate me.

Go to your support group, keep coming here and reach out to your support system. We are all in this together. I am 29 days post op and have lost 30#. It is not easy and there are times I have regretted doing this or been terrified of failing but I am tenacious and failure is not an option. At my 3 week check up my surgeon was pleased with me but reminded me this is a marathon not a sprint and it is all a learning curve.

Perhaps also some of the hunger you may feel is actually heartburn. Pepcid has an awesome chewable and the alka seltzer gummies are effective too.

Feel free to private message me any time and remember; we are all in this together!

Well done for making it to three weeks! As Gingi said, It's highly likely that what you are experiencing is not hunger but some type of reflux. It's very rare to feel hunger so early on. I know its very common to mistake reflux for hunger in the first few weeks. Make sure you are also getting enough Fluid (could be another mistaken trigger for hunger).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
