So in our journey with my husband's colon cancer, he has developed an infection called c.diff (clostridium difficile colitis). For him, it was a result of taking antibiotics after a surgery. FOR YOU, it may be caused by PPI's (proton pump inhibitors). It is a nasty situation, and you can read up about it on WebMD, on the internet. It is an infection of the colon, and can be mild to severe, and causes diarrhea among other symptoms. If you think you may have this, GET IT CHECKED! It can go from mild to even life-threatening, and is very contagious. CHECK IT OUT! I am stopping my PPI, as I live with hubs, who has a bad case of it. Wash hands thoroughly, as it is spread by touching contaminated objects. HEAD'S UP!!!!!

How long were you in the hospital for? What kind of treatment finally got rid of the C.Diff? Dave is on Flagyll, and has already shown improvement, after only 1 day, so I hope it keeps working. Hope you are fully recovered!

I was in the hospital for two weeks, on three different IV antibiotics, and recovered just fine! I had a skull infection, too, so I was a hot mess.

Glad he's improved!!! He's going to beat this!

I had C. diff after taking antibiotics for a tooth infection. 8 weeks of flagyl and then vancomycin. It would clear up on the Meds, but then come back within a few days of stopping. 2 miserable months of pain and diarrhea. Had to get IV fluids 3 times for severe dehydration. Finally ended up getting a fecal transplant. Cost me $2500 because insurance wouldn't cover it, but well worth it ....it was an instant cure.

Sending hopes and prayers to you and your husband.

I recently had C-Diff. It was pretty horrible. I was treated with four antibiotics in a few weeks for kidney, bladder and tooth infections. For 2 weeks I was on 2 different antibiotics at the same time. I dealt with the C-diff for 3 weeks with various trips to ER for IV fluids. I was also diagnosed with Ileus after about a week and a half with the C-diff. I was on Flagyl and pain meds for a few weeks. Even when I started to get better, it took another week and a half before I was actually eating anything.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
