Hello Miss Pam, Yes, Dr. Nwanguma did my surgery in February, 2015! He and his staff are absolutely wonderful!!! Dr. Nwanguma is a very skilled surgeon and he will not perform surgery until every item on your checklist has been done.

Teresa Stidham is his nurse practitioner and she is very knowledgeable and helpful. There is a support group which meets monthly at the Medical Center/WKU Campus. The next meeting is on Thursday, June 18th at 5:00 p.m.

Misspam they should at least tell you what month you will be having your surgery then and your checklist of tests you need to complete depending on your co morbities and health issues

They told me to expect for my first appointment to last at least 2 hours. I was told I would meet with the dietician and the surgeon. Since I'll be a self pay patient (I sure wish my insurance covered the surgery), I hope I don't have to wait too long for surgery. I guess I'll know a lot more on Monday.

I am thinking of going to him. Can you tell me how much the self pay was and how long you had to wait? Thanks

Dr. Nwanguma is great! I had the sleeve done in June and haven't had any complications. I had to pay $15,600 for the surgery, but ended up having to have a hernia repair which my insurance paid for. I also had to take out a temporary insurance policy through the dr office that would cover any complications after surgery that cost $1,300. I highly recommend Dr. Nwanguma and his staff. I have had a great experience so far.

Thank you MissPam for the information. It is so hard to pick the best surgeon and I live in Glasgow so Bowling Green is super convenient for me. I am going to the Decemer seminar so I am really excited. Should have the funds to pay for surgery by February.

I had a few people recommend him to me. When you had your surgery done how long did you have to stay at the hospital there and which surgery did you have?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
