Is it possible to go back to work the next week after your 3 day recovery? If I am just sitting at a computer editing film and doing graphics...is this something that is possible. I cannot take that much time off so I am wondering if others have gone back so soon?

I only took a week off. I arranged my schedule to be at my desk doing documentation and such the week I was coming back and although I did manage it, my tummy was pretty sore from sitting, I felt tired, and to be honest, I wished I would have stayed home a few more days. You might also.

I was already retired when I had my surgery. I was exhausted the whole first month and really felt sorry for folks who have to go back to work or take care of small children. My hat's off to all of you. Maybe if I were thirty years younger at the time, the fatigue would not have been so bad. At one week, you will probably still be on full liquids or maybe starting purees. Be prepared to be tired and plan your nutrition carefully. I hope your recovery goes well.

I am hoping for surgery by July 10th. I won't be working per se, as a teacher, I will have a few weeks before school starts back up. My concern is with setting up my classroom. I will need to move furniture and tote boxes of books around. Is this going to be feasible? Am I going to need to beg for hubby's help?

It will depend on how you feel. I wasn't nauseous at all, but I was still pretty tired. Would you be able to do half days if you needed? Maybe try to get your surgery on a Friday to maximize your days off.

You should be good by the time its ready to redo your classroom. I am 4 weeks out and can do most things. I don't really have a lot of pain. You may want help with the heavier boxes.

@@Invictus Yours may be different, but my orders were not to lift anything over 10 pounds for the first 2 weeks after surgery.

I have a desk job and assumed I'd be okay to return to work after one week. I wasn't ready but had to go back anyway because I didn't file FMLA paperwork (since I assumed one week would be good enough). I really wish I would have taken two weeks off. If you can, take two weeks!

**UPDATE**

SO i literally got back from TJ and started dismantling an above ground pool. Finished drywall in the basement. Did a ton of painting and stuff. I had enormous amounts of energy from losing like 15 pounds in a week. I did not have any issues, I did avoid heavy lifting (for the most part) and was good. Going back to work 4-5 days after is NOT a problem. Mentally if you think you will be weak, then you will be. You can overcome it with a positive outlook I beleive. But if you are sore, listen to your body!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
