Hi, I am in the middle of my 90 day insurance waiting period/doctor supervised diet period. I have a couple of questions. First, am I supposed to be trying to lose weight? Because if I do, I am worried I may fall out of the BMI range that allows me to get the surgery. And secondly, I know everyone loses differently but I am just wondering if I could get a guestimate about how much weight I can expect to lose in 2 weeks post-op, 3 months post-op, six months post op, and a year post-op. Thank you.

I'm not too sure about that 90 day period. But I do know post op there is NO way of telling how much weight you will lose.. Everyone is different! Don't be disheartened if you don't lose any weight straight up or if you gain weight, a friend of mine had the band about 6 months before I did and she gained weight post op, it took her a couple of fills to start losing and she has done amazingly! Just take it as it comes and try not to weigh yourself or you will become obsessed by the scales.

Good luck with your journey, you will do great! :))

The reason for the wait period is to make sure you are ready and committed to losing the weight, before you have the surgery. Use this time to ween down on foods. Start by reducing your fat and sugar intake and increasing your activity level. You don't want to go into surgery addicted to sugar and caffeine and fat.

It has taken me a year to get through my hospital's program. This has nothing to do with insurance requirements. There's just a long wait list for everything. But I've taken the year to continuing to educate myself about what I'm getting into. I started an exercise routine and I've been faithful for 8 months. I know, when you decide you want WLS, you want it yesterday. But I swear the time will pass quickly. My surgeon said he wanted a 10% reduction of excess weight. I wasn't even half way there when I got my surgery date, but after 2 weeks on pre-op liquid that has really jump started things. I just might reach it by surgery day (Tuesday).

I would call your insurance company and ask them specifically if getting below the qualifying bmi would disqualify you from surgery. But yes, you should be losing weight in this time and working on changing your eating and behavior habits.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
