Silly as it may sound, it's still a concern

Hi All!

I know this may sound silly to many but even after all the research and the assurances...having surgery is scary! I've never had any sort of major procedure or surgery except having my wisdom teeth removed at 17. I know this procedure is considered relatively "low risk" but death is still a variable.

I'm having this surgery, there's definitely no backing out for me but it's still scaring the sh*t out of me!

Scary indeed.

I almost backed out of surgery - a couple of times in the weeks before surgery and even on surgery day. I sat in admitting thinking to myself, "I can leave right now and I'll only be out $500." But then I looked at my husband, who was just as scared as I was and I chose at that moment to change my life.

Had I let fear win that day...

I wouldn't have the relationship I have with my husband and son I have today

I wouldn't have received the promotion at work - not due to fat shaming by others, but because I did enough fat shaming to myself

I wouldn't have run in that 5K last weekend (and I beat that snotty little 12 year old! Yeah, I kicked her ass!)

I wouldn't have explored Paris on foot logging 20+ miles in 2 days

I wouldn't have explored San Francisco on foot, logging 17 miles in one day!

I wouldn't have been able to walk into the department store and purchase clothes in Misses section (goodbye ugly unnatural prints in the big girls' section)

I wouldn't have tried hot yoga, to which I have now become an addict!

Don't let fear get in your way...

You are so right! I want all these things, that's why I want I'm going through it. I have no idea why the surgery scares me, from what I've read it's more likely I will have post op complications than during surgery. Thanks so much for sharing, I appreciate your response so much. My fear will not get the best of me! ????

I've never had surgery in my life. But even if this was going to be my 100th I think I would still be scared. It's as much a part of the process as anything else so you're in very good company. Good luck!

An AMAZING reality check just happened for me!!! Thank you! My date is 4/13 and I've really been freaking out about the surgery and pain the following few days after. No pain...continue to gain. That's my new moto.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
