Claiming Medical Expenses on Income Tax

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious to all of you who travelled from Canada to Mexico to get your WLS, did you claim it on your income tax, and roughly how much was returned to you in comparison to what you paid? I'm just trying to look at all aspects of my decision to stay and wait for it to be completed in NL, or bite the bullet financially and go down to Mexico.

Any help would be lovely! :)

I'm not sure about if you go to Mexico, but my surgeon is 3 hours away from my home and I can claim mileage, and my hotel stay each trip.

I would just ask your accountant. Btw, I'm in New Brunswick and have a date for my sleeve on June 8th! I was referred back in 2009, so it has been a long wait. What are the wait times in NL? Is the surgery covered by Medicare there?

I did claim it and it boosted the return by quite a bit. Alberta health also reimburses us around 2,000 dollars for it.

.

How did you get Alberta health to reimburse you???

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
