SHARP PAIN AND CAN'T TAKE A DEEP BREATH-LAPBAND

Recommended Posts

HELLO. I HAD MY SURGERY IN 2008 OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND WAS SUCCESSFUL THERE FOR AWHILE. I HAVE A HARD TIME KEEPING ANYTHING DOWN...OKAY I CAN'T KEEP ANYTHING DOWN AT ALL. I HAVE NOT HAD A FILL SINCE 2010 AND YET EVERYTHING FEELS LIKE IT IS STUCK SO I CAN FORCED TO GET RID OF IT. I HAVE BEEN PURGING JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING SINCE 2010...AND I DO MEAN EVERY MEAL.

TODAY I AM AT WORK AND ON THE PHONE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I GOT THIS STABBING PAIN ON MY LEFT SIDE; IT SURPRISED ME SO MUCH I COULDN'T TAKE DEEP BREATHS. IT FINALLY HAS EASED OFF. IT KIND OF FELT LIKE THE WORST MUSCLE PULL OF MY LIFE AND ADD 10.

I AM SCARED. I HAVE NO INSURANCE AND NO DR HERE. SUGGESTIONS?

REALLY? THE PAIN WAS NOT IN MY CHEST ALTHOUGH IT WAS SHARP WHEN I COULDN'T BREATH. THE PAIN HAS SUBSIDED BUT I STILL DON'T FEEL 100%. ALSO THE PAIN WAS IN MY ABDOMEN BUT IT STOPPED ME FROM TAKING A BREATH IT WAS AWFUL.

I JUST HATE GNG TO THE ER BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THEY NEVER FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH ME.

@@HVNLYMORNING I hope you did go and get yourself checked out. Even though you don't like to hear that you spent your time and there is nothing wrong with you that is really the best news ever!

Have them take an x-ray to make sure your band and your port/tubing are all well and good. An x-ray should also show if you have any kind of blockage. There could be 101 reasons for the pain you got that have nothing to do with your band as well and could be serious or not so serious. Error on the side of caution and see the Dr.

Let us know how your doing.

ER! It really needs to be checked. Especially since you've been purging for the past *4* years. Let us know how you are doing after you go to the ER.

Hello. I did go to the ER and my band is ok. I have a hiatal hernia at the top of my band and will require surgery. Thanks so much for everyone's concern. Will be looking into having surgery soon.

Now they fix ur hernia when they do the band ! I was told years ago I had that so the doctor told me when he did the band he would fix it. As it turned out he never saw one he said he checked but unless it was so tiny it should not be a problem glad you found out the issue and it will be fixed for you !!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
