ok so I had my surgery

November 2013 . i am 5 feet zero. I started at 192 and am at 152.

I feel great. My normal(most of my years) I was a comfortable size 10. I am a loose 10 right now. In all my years of yoyo life I could never sustain a size 8.I feel great. The awful scale is slowing moving down (ounces not pounds) but I feel really good./ I was approached by the drs office (hospital) to tell my story ( success story).I am not sure what to do. I have told some/ people...not everyone. and am I success story????? I am happy with where I am at so far. I have decreased

medications. I can physically do things that would have been impossible a year ago. I am happy with what I see in the mirror(except for the wrinkles ) but I am talking only 40 lbs. I don't know in the big picture of weight loss surgery if this is considered a success. I would like to know what you would do in my place. all comments are welcome.

I am trying to figure out if you are worried because everyone will know about your surgery, or if you are worried because you feel like you are not "really" a success.

If you define your concern maybe the answer will be easier to come by.

Either way, I think it must be very nice to have been asked! :)

I havnt told anyone other then a few close friends but it's eventually goin to get out...if ur Dr asked u then u better believe ur a success! U obviously lost what was needed an it was this tool that helped get there! Be proud an own it :) it just might give others the courage to do it also if they have been thinking of this as well. It might not sound like a lot but obviously it was a medical necessity or insurance wouldn't have approved it nor ur Dr am I right? I really don't want to pry but did ur insurance approve or self pay? U don't have to answer if u don't want to I totally understand I'm trying to figure out like others the hesitation? Bless ur heart..hope u come up with an answer for ur self. ..:)

I read all the "success" stories I could before I decided to have surgery...they are certainly inspirational. One thing I would consider is if I could whole heartedly recommend the surgeon/practice because being a success story for them will be a kind of advertisement. Those are the things I would consider... On the other hand...congrats for creating a success story...it didn't happen because you wished it...it happened because you worked it!

Are you worried because you think 40 is not enough that people are bigger and lost more and they are more succesful ? I think you sell yourself short

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
