After dealing with so many issues my band was removed in Mexico by Guillermo Alvarez ( best in the world). I'm less then 24 hours out and my body feels so relieved :)

Guillermo Alvarez said I should wait at least 6 months before getting the sleeve because all the damage the band did to my stomach it needs to heal. I'm a self pay so I'll start cutting corners and save up and hopefully by May of 2015 I'll be sleeved. :) by Guillermo Alvarez.

I can't say enough about the care here with Guillermo Alvarez and his team. They truly care about you as a person. I travelled with two other people getting the sleeve and the say the same thing about the fantastic care here.

I'm so happy that little lapband monster is out of me!

Thanks lab walker! I'm eating again both good and yes bad. I keep waiting for that horrible feeling when I eat then I remember I don't have the band. I need to limit my food intake. I want to eat now:(

Wow... can you eat something simple as bite of a hamburger, or a grilled cheese?

I am having this dreaded lap band out.. as soon as my doc gets it scheduled. I have not been able to eat any sandwich type food since 8/2008.

Not that I would eat much of it anyway.. but not even a bite of a hamburger.. because i would be running to the toilet, cause it would be stuck.

It didn't matter how little the bite was, how much I chewed... It wasn't going down.

Tell me all the great things that you have tried to experience in moderation, of course.

Pangie, now that the band is gone I'm not restricted and I can eat anything :) the first time I took a bit of a cheese burger I chewed and chewed for a long time. Swallowed and waited for my bodies "normal" reaction and it was an amazing feeling to not have one! My new normal is I can eat! No heart pounding, sweating, running to the bathroom :)

As soon as I was banded I couldn't eat eggs :( my body just said no to them..fried, scrambled, poached... I tried it all but I can eat eggs again!!!!

It a blessing now I need to get in check with my food:) sleeved march or May for me :)

Good luck!

Mermaiddeams, I'm in a similar situation. Can't wait to get this thing out and heal. Then, I will consider revision surgery. Not sure if I can handle all that comes with wls again. It has been tough! Also, I experience the heart pounding as well. What the heck is that from!?!? Do you know? I never had it prior to the band and have been wondering if it is related to this crappy device.

My band was removed 6 weeks ago but I was somewhat unfilled at the time of surgery but not all the way. I really do want to revise to RNY but like you Kattatack, I don't know if I want to deal with wls again. Anyway, I 've been approved for it and have untill the end of the year to have it done on that approval. Since band removal, I can sleep, exercise, eat,etc...w/o issues. I couldn't lose on my own before the band, so I'll be seeing RNY in a couple of months. Good Luck everyone and keep me posted.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
