Greeting everyone. I love how you all are so positive and it's helping me stay motivated. I got my vsg done on 3\18\14 at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Firstly, I spent my first night in the recovery room because the hospital was overcrowded. I couldn't sleep and couldn't walk around because it was so crowded. I am still unable to get down 64ounces due to nausea. I only intake about 20ounces now and I can tell I am dehydrated because food and liquids make me gag. It doesn't help either that I am on my "monthly" so I am all bloated and extremely gassy. I mainly burb but only "farted" once which was a relief. I tried walking but I easily become nauseated and dizzy. I coughed up mucus a few times and due to a bumpy ride home in a taxi I threw up as soon as I got in the house. I'm taking Gas X, Oxycodon, some anti acid med and Lovonox. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I only feel better when I am laying down.

First of all, congrats on your surgery...and just a quick caveat, I'm originally from Philly (I was actually born at Jefferson Hospital!!). I'm almost 8 weeks out, and still have an issue getting 64oz. in...the only way to do it is make a conscious effort and sip all day. It can be done, just takes some practice. Similar to you, I vomited the first day I was in the hospital, and barely got in a bowel movement the second day. Since I've been home, only had one other vomiting episode, but it was my own fault...I ate too fast! As you're home and you get more comfortable, things really do get easier each day...don't try to 'force' the liquids, but just keep sipping all day. Gas-X does help, but what helps the most is you just keep moving anytime you can...walk around the house, outside for a little bit, whatever. Just take it slow and as you get comfortable, move a little faster, but just a little at a time. The longer you sit still, the more gas build-up you get...at least that was what happened in my case. If you got gas...either 'upper' or 'lower', just let it out and move on.

Hope this helps...please keep posting and hope to hear how well you're making out!

You and I are in the same place. I was sleeved on the 18th also. I'm so weak and tired. My monthly is almost over. I wish us the best. Keep me updated on your recovery

Welcome to the loser's bench!

Maybe heating pads will help? I know they helped for me when Gas-X and Prilosec did nothing. I'll be a month out on Monday, and still have a hard time getting in all my Water. It's tough, especially in the first few days, but outside of week's time, I'm sure you'll find you can take in more fluids.

Be well…

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
