Hey guys! I'm preop and I'm looking for Vitamins..my Dr office is pushing them Bariatric Advantage products like people selling girl scout Cookies lol.

I'm going to buy a 3 month supply of the BA chewable multi formula.but mu question is should I buy the BA Calcium citrate chewy bite for $30 or is there a better deal somewhere else? Each bite is 500mg of Calcium cottage with 500 IU of D3 and its a 90 count bag?

What Biotin product is the best? And best price?

Where should I buy the B12? Are there better ones than others?

My doctors notes says the Multivitamin contains aprox. 500 Mg of calcium the rest needs to be supplemented.

It says all Vitamins should be chewable..

What are you taking both preop and post op? Do they make you gain weight?

Thanks in advance y'all are awesome

I use gummy vitamins, I think they are called nature-something (sorry they are from wal-mart and do well on my tummy) and I eat alot of broccoli and drink almond milk, so I do not supplement any more Calcium. I DO make sure I get enough sun because Vitamin D and calcium are linked and one needs the other.

I just buy generic, much cheaper, and exactly the same product. I usually get them at Walmart or Kmart.

You need a calcium citrate supplement not one made with Calcium carbonate. The citrate is better absorbed by your new stomach than the other type. We lose the optimal area of calcium absorbption when we have the sleeve. I buy the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews online from Amazon.< /p>

There are other Vitamin threads on this site that have a lot of good information if you search for that topic. Good luck with your surgery!

Here is what I wrote in a previous thread, I hope this helps: Posted August 23, 2013 - 12:30 PM

I agree that some of the "bariatric" Vitamins are way over priced! I decided to continue w/ my pre-surgery regime with some additions. I just had my blood work done ( 3 months post surgery) and everything was great (Vitamin levels too) except I am low on Vit D.

Here is what I am taking:

Centrium Silver chewable Multivitamin (Daily) - $6 / month

Celebrate Chewable Calcuim w/ Vit D (Daily)- $7 / month

Celebrate Chewable Iron + C (2 - 3 times per week) - $6 / month

GNC Biotin 5000 mg (Daily) - $ 7 / month

GNC Vit B-12 Lozenge (Daily) - $3 / month

I will be adding a GNC Vit D-3 tablet to my daily pills starting tomorrow.

I have always resisted taking any Vitamins, but I realized with this surgery and the reduction in food, that it was necessary. I put all of these pills in a 7 day pill holder and it really seems to be working for me.

One thing to watch out for is the number of servings required to get the vitamins listed on the bottle. Some I looked at (gummies especially) require you to eat 3 or 4 to get all the required vitamins. That raises the overall price dramatically. I think $100 per month is excessive.

Thanks for the info!! I'm writing a list and taking notes..ive learned so far that its better to not take Iron with calcium..and iron is better at night..calcium should be 2-3 hrs seperated..I hope that's right..I hate taking pills but if its for my health I gotta do it.

I swear by my Twin Labs Bariatric Support calcium citrate. They are always on sale on at least one website or another. To keep costs low, I take 2 Flintstones complete multi-vitamins a day. Get the ones with Iron already in them, avoid the rest. Also, I ordered free samples from several Bariatric Vitamin makers, got enough b-12 that I won't have to buy it for months. There is a thread on here with who gives out samples.

Save your money! Trader Joe's has a great chewable, 3-month supply for only around $8! Here's a pic of them...

I wouldn’t advice on Bariatric Advantage Vitamins. They are a complete waste of money. They made me nauseous each time I took them. Worst of all the bottles did not have complete information on the ingredients. There was some info missing.

I take Calcium in malate chelate 1200 mcg in a serving of 4 capsules, Multivitamins in multi-standard formula and 1 Vitamin B12 sublingual in the form of methylcobalamin with 1000mcg.I get all these Vitamins from Vita4Life. As for Biotin supplement I would advise hair skin and nail Vitamin from Vita4Life. They offer Biotin and msm supplements that in combination work great for your hair skin and nails.

I personally hate chewables. They make me barf each time and I hate the idea of chewing for over two minutes and then swallowing. As per weight gain, I have not noticed any after surgery. I guess it all depends on your diet.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
