How many people ACTUALY die or have complications?

Recommended Posts

There doesn't seem to be any consistent information out there. We know that 1 in 100,000 people die in skydiving accidents. 18 per 100,000 people die in car accidents with South-East Asia and Africa having the highest rates. Can anyone tell me the risks/ statistics of this surgery to put in in perspective??

Ask your specific surgeon how many leaks deaths their specific practice has had. This is a better Indictator IMO.

I've seen it listed as low as .01% up to 2% but keep in mind.. This is a surgery like any other.. Things CAN go wrong, but as long as you have a very competent doctor most likely you will be fine.

There is a risk of leaks after, but most doctors test and retest for them, so as long as you follow their diet you should be ok. Blood clots are another.. My doc had leg squeezers on me, and blood thinners.. Walk as much as you can post surgery to help with those as well. Infection is another risk.. Keep your wounds clean and wash your hands regularly.

What I am getting at here is it is a surgery, but you and your doctor can do a lot to prevent these things from happening. Follow the instructions given to you and you should be fine..

I had it in my head that I may not make it off the table, and it was just added stress for nothing as I am alive and well and lost 60 lbs already. It's worth the risk in my eyes.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
