The 60s -- the greatest decade to grow up in!

Recommended Posts

I too graduated in 1969 and the only concert I ever went to was the Beach Boys. :)

I remember being in school when JFK was killed. My little brother came to my room crying. He had an imbedded hernia and when it acted up I was allowed to take care of him. He was crying when I went to the door and he said.."Sissy, someone killed the president." I guess I turned pale as my teacher asked what was wrong and I told her. I remember standing in the library watching the TV in shock. We lived in a rual community so we had to stay until the buses came to pick us up.

We've lived through civil rights, Viet Nam, Challenger, Columbia, the Kennedy assasinations and 9/11. We might not have been the greatest generation but we still knew how to work and didn't expect the government to take care of us. So here's to us and the great things we have accomplished and the many more left ahead of us!

I remember it very well. My husband and I had just gotten our first brand new car. I was sitting in it waiting for him to get it registered. I was listening to the radio when they broke in with the announcement . I couldn't believe it. I was very busy in the 60s. I had 4 children in 5 years. Anyway, I was pregnant for my first when that happened.

It is nice to connect to your contemporaries. And who doesn't love talking about the 60's? Well ... me, for one ... now that I'm 66. :o

But this group is pretty inactive. If you want feedback, you'll have to post elsewhere. I'd comment, but I still haven't had surgery.

Good luck, and get an answer!

Not sure what to answer you on this. I know that I am too tight at anything above 5.cc. You may be like me on that. My surgeon refuses to make me any tighter because when he does the barium swallow doesn't pass, not even with a Water chaser! Best wishes, and as Shiki said, you might have to search for answers in another part of the forum. Karen

The best thing about the 60's is that we were (are) the offspring of the best generation the world has ever seen. (pre depression to post WW2)

I really miss those people.

Would anyone understand if I said I have a hard time remembering the 60"s ???

And then I was off to Vietnam for 2 tours.

I once said I remembered the 60's and a co worker told I must not have done them right if I could remember them.

Now, THAT'S funny! It was a wonderous time to grow up. I'm boarder line 60 at 69 and banded in July after some major medical problems like A-Fib! But got 'er done and am happy with results so far. I'm convinced as we age the fat sticks in places we didn't dream of, and its harder to make the ole joints work, but we grew up tough, because we had to learn to swim or sink.

And thank you for that...so many of our friends didn't make it back...I remember the 60's...little foggy, but it's all there!

How I loved G L O R I A!!!One of my favorites when I wen to dances at the University! I was, also, a great Beach Boys fan, and loved Jan & Dean. Sad when "dead mans curve" killed the duet! I still listen to the "oldies". My husband likes some that I dodn't care for, tho'!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
