"My big worry is taking 30 min to eat and chewing the food enough. Is any one else worried about that?"

I am worried about that a bit...I eat out a lot with colleagues and clients. They all inhale their food and then we talk business after the speed-lunch. I'm not telling the world I'm doing this, only those closest to me, so I'm not sure how to deal with this. I'll probably just order Soup or something that I don't have to chew as much and see how it goes.

I've been practicing chewing my food until it's practically gone before I swallow. When I do that, I eat my typical meal in about 20 minutes and I've also stopped drinking liquids with my meals too. That is harder than the chewing thing so far!

Is anyone else practicing post-surgical behaviors? Are you successful?

I, too, have been trying to cut my food in small pieces and chewing, chewing, chewing. I have found that our dinner conversation may be my down fall - I just swallow the food fast and reply or laugh, etc... I can't install a no talking at the dinner table rule - we have always went over the day at work and school, etc.... I will adjust and they will wait for my response....

I have been trying every Protein drink under the sun - yuck! I'm hoping I will be so hungry they will taste good!

My husband is probably tired of hearing me say (at every meal) what I'll be able to eat and what I probably won't be able to chew up small enough because it's too chewy, fiberous, or I have read a lot of bandsters have issue with it, etc..

NYSparklegirl - We will have to keep in touch since we are going to go through everything together - sorta

Good luck to all!

It seems like a few of us are scheduled for the 8th. That's cool!

Those who are having surgery on the 8th, when do you start your pre-op diet? I have my "nutrition class" this Thursday, and I think I'm supposed to start the diet a week from today. That's 3 weeks. I'm really worried that I am going to struggle a lot with the pre-op diet.

I have my nutrition class Jan. 20th and my pre-op appt. on the same day.....My pre-op diet starts Jan. 25th - two weeks of shakes for Breakfast and lunch - dinner consists of a salad or veggies and a 4oz serving of a lean meat. No carbs..... I will stick to it to a "T". I'm to freaked out about what could go wrong to take chances - plus I have $2,400 out of pocket and that's a lot of money for us to throw away.

Keep in touch.

oh yes....I forgot to mention I was a transplant from the Jan Bandsters thread....I was a little overzealous in thinking it was going to be in Jan LOL

And thanks to another poster..Abra I think is the name....about my height and weight and her goal is 170...I was thinking 180 for myself but didn't want to say it lol But I am saying it now....I think around 180 is good for me!

Congrats on the approval and welcome to the February group!

We don't have a name like the January group yet but that may change.

I have to do 3 weeks because my BMI was a little on the high side (49ish). I hate that.

Our doctor has us do Medifast/Healthwise. We can have 5 or 6 products a day. There are shakes, Protein Water, oatmeal, Soups, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bars, etc. We are only allowed 1 bar a day. Other than that we are supposed to have Clear Liquids. I think it equals out to about 500-600 calories a day. I know that's a lot better than some people have, so I am thankful for that. But I know it is going to be difficult to make dinner for my family and then eat that. I am going to have to get some books from the library or something to keep me busy during that time.

I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and know that I did it - that I followed it perfectly.

I think it will be good to have each other's support and know that we are not the only one going through this.

yes, we def. should. There are several others who also are having the surgery for the 8th. Tomorrow I meet with the endocronologist. Yet another consult. Do you have to go to alot of doctors for consults and exams before surgery as well?? Since I just joined this group just this week I have no idea how to navigate all the threads...so im staying put in here!!! lol

Sometimes I'm in so many threads I can't keep track

I have finished all my tests, etc.... I'm pretty much good to go now. I have a 2 hour nutrition class and my pre-op appt. on January 20th. Then I start my pre-op diet soon after.

The hospital called today to register me over the phone - it's getting closer!

Hey everyone! Just got my surgery date Feb 12! My Dr. Is Michael Feiz in Beverly Hills California. I'm 26 yrs old. Now 240 but goal weight is 140. Decided to have surgery because I have always been able to lose weight and get down to 170 but I always gain it back so hoping this will allow me to catch myself before gaining large numbers. I have a 3 yr old daughter too so I need my energy back and right now I completly feel out of shape....plus I want a great summer beach body and my goal is to have it this summer! Family totally supports me so I'm just excited and I'm gonna go start looking for Protein Shakes and get a new blender and I plan to start dieting Friday. Yay!!!!!!!! I'm a february bandster

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
