November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

Recommended Posts

Hot Toddy, I did a barium swallow after. It's just to make sure stuff can get through ok, that there isn't too much swelling.

TOday is Day 4 for me and feeling so much better. They only pain is slight when I am trying to get up and down from couch, etc. Of course, no bending or lifting allowed, but I'm sure that would hurt too!

The gas is gone, although I do feel a bit bloated. I am getting all of my liquids in fine (32 oz Protein and 32 oz clear). Because I am getting it all in finally, I am actually feeling full for the first time in weeks... Cetainly no restriction, but at least that sensation is there.

I go back on Tuesday for advancement (hopefully!) to mushies.

YAY TO ALL MY FELLOW KNOCKOUTS!

Hi! I was banded Tuesday and was e-mailing the dietician by Friday asking for full liquids. My stomach was GROWLING! She said to start early on Protein Drinks and yogurt. I was elated! Now I do mainly Protein Drink, yogurt and Soup and I am stuffed after only a few sips/bites.

Hey all!...I was banded on Wednesday, November 18,2009...my procedure was perfect....my family kept commenting that I didn't even appear to have had any procedure done! *lol*....I walked the halls...feel AMAZING!!!!...Do have to admit the gas is a killer...far worse than the procedure!

I vowed to not be a scale whore...but low and behold..I stepped on this morning and am down 7 lbs.!!...

I have FOUR weeks of liquids...aaarrrggghh!!!..*laughs*...but as the old cliche' goes "nothing good comes easy"....hope all of my dear November buddies are doing well!!

Hey no one's mentioned it here, but did you have a sore throat for the first couple of days? I did, and it hurt way worse than anything else has. I know I had some sort of mask on, and perhaps a tube down my throat - does anyone know for sure?

I didn't get much Fluid down for the first three days, and then it was just Water or broth. After that it was juice and broth w/ some Protein powder. Just today, day six, I'll probably be able to finish the day w/ 47 grams of Protein. I started having some soy milk and cream Soups today - what a relief.

Good luck to everyone - it's great being able to talk to someone who understands what I'm going through.

The sore throat is from the tube they put down your throat for the anesthesia. I had a little bit of one too but it didn't last too long. I had a hard time at first getting a lot of liquids in because we have to sip everything. Plus I slept a lot at first. Sound like you are coming along though, good luck!

I was banded on November 19th. Initially it was hard for me to be excited about it, becuase my Surgeon express some concern about the placement of my band due to my anatomy. He felt that it was questionable and he is not sure if he will need to remove it. So my 1st postop day was awful. All I did was worry about whats to come. Well post op day 2 was better I have been trying to stay positive and hopefully it will all work out. I figure that I have six weeks before we know if my band is good so am just going to follow the diet and take advantage of anyweight loss during this time.

Good luck to you. I hope it all works out.

I did the barium swallow post-op (I was banded on 11/18/09)...talk about torture! lol Although it did give me some peace of mind to know that everything looked okay...

I also had the barium study. It was really hard for me to not have anything to eat til then! LOL I had mine the day after my surgery. They had to give me these oral swabs to help moisten my mouth and throat.

Now 3 days post-op I think I'm healing well, but then again I still have back pain and stomach pain and I'm super hungry. I thought I would be able to do the Soups, but low and behold the thought of Soup makes me nauseous! I'm starting to get a headache too (no doubt from not eating) and that's not good!

Yesterday was a bit of an emotional rollercoater. I am 7 days banded. I began to wonder if I would ever feel 100% again. When I go walking, I start to feel weak and my stomach gets queasy. When I am relaxing at home I feel pretty good. But walking actually makes me feel sick. At first I loved walking because it relieved the gas pains. But now I dread going outside. I live in NYC and take public transportation everywhere and have to walk a lot. I pray that I'll be able to cope with my commute to and from work when I go back next week.

Also, got my period today and thought I was going to cry. I get really bad cramps. But it feels 10 times worse with the band. Feels like my band got really tight or something. Then came the nausea. It was so bad that I paced back and forth through the house singing old Bobby Brown songs. LOL (every little step I take, you will be there...)I just kept thinking, I CAN'T THROW UP! Thank god I asked for a script for anti nausea medication because I knew this day was coming. I ended up getting in the shower with the Water as hot as I could stand. SWEET RELIEF!! I just pray that it isn't gonna get this bad every month. When I start getting fills I probably will have to schedule them so it doesn't coincide with my period.

Oh and on a lighter note. My brother started making fun of my new laugh. You know...the I can't laugh to hard or my stomach will hurt laugh. Gotta stay away from funny people. LOL...ouch!

Hey thre N09K!

Today, Day 5, and feeling ok. Pain is just about gone, except a little with coughing, laughing, getting up and down. However, extreme fatigue hit me today. I could barely get off the couch! I'm also starting to get hungry, but a 1/3 cup of cream of chicken Soup fills me right up. Doesn't quite "hit the spot" but at least does the trick, you know? :(

Tomorrow is my follow up and I should be moved to mushies. Best of luck to those with surgeries in the coming week!

Hi All,

I hope that everyone is well. I am feeling 100% better. I am going back to work tomorrow (the day of our Thanksgiving potluck). I am not concerned about temptation because I still have ZERO appetite. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Hey Yall

I was banded on November 18th as well and everything went smoothly until I got home and started feeling my sore throat!!!! where did that come from? I have found out since then that I was intubated(sp)....So, after the sore throat goes away, Im still dealing with the gas pains... and just when ive taken all the GAS-X strips I can to get that under control... tada here comes mother nature!! Arrrgh... give me a freaking break. Having a hard time taking in all the required liquids, cant stand the smell of Protein anymore, so i have just been sipping on Isopure Plus, Gatorade (clear) and applesauce,,, my follow-up isn't until Nov 8..hope I have at least lost something, but not too sure. I struggle with wanting to snack, but I try to remain strong... very very challenging though. any encouraging words are soooooooo welcome....:(

I think I've come here looking for some encouragin words as well. I was doing okay most of the day then after a nice long walk through the mall I feel sore and in pain. My Dr told me this morning that I could have a little egg and maybe some crackers to help with my hunger, and it did at first. Now I can't really stop crying thinking, " What the hell did I just do to myself?" I honestly had no clue it was gonna be this hard. I'm starting to feel like, I'll never be able to enjoy dinner time or a nice lunch with my family...

aww girl- sorry to hear u're in pain after 7 days... I guess it varies with everyone. I can relate with you about getting our period during recovery process. UGH it couldnt have come at a better time, eh!?

DITTO- I bled way heavier and had my period longer than usual right after surgery - not usual for me! I wonder if it's because of that? Hope your cramps gets bearable soon. Take hot baths as much as u can!

Keep walking, bit by a bit. I know the feeling of walking back and forth trying to not throw up. Been there- It will only get easier day by day. Hope you recover faster!

I know what you mean by staying away from funny people! My roommate is an actor and a comedian- so I suffered with stifled laughters lol

take it easy!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
