Dr. Matthew Metz - Love my Dr. Metz

Recommended Posts

Hi yal,

From the Springs but having surgery with Metz on the 3rd of December. So far, so good. My liquid diet starts 11/30/09. Surgery is at P/SL. Very nice office staff & insurance clearance p/w was sent ASAP. He offers GBP, Lapband and VSG. His NP is very nice and is his sidekick for surgeries. Dieticians are nice and social workers are awesome! I love Liz! Anybody out there considering their practice, it's a GO! If you wanna pair up with me to keep up-to-date, reply to this thread.

Had my surgery and now awaiting first fill on 1/4/10. Metz is taking 2 months off and will be back in March! Guess I'll have Allison until he returns. She's really sweet. Yes, Metz is young! Still a little port pain for me but all in all doing great! Just wanna start dropping good here real soon. Down about 16 right now. Take care and update me when yal can.

Hello all...Dr Metz did my surgery on July 16th 2009 and I have lost right at 70lbs...He was awesome, repaired a hiatel hernia too...Dr. Metz will not be back to COlorado Bariatric...he is traveling all over and did not renew his contract. I was there last week and was told that my "new Dr" is Dr. Brown...wasn't thrilled since I have never even met him, however Allison and Dawn the 2 PA's totally rock...They have always done my fills and answered any questions I have had...I think it sucks that Mets never even notified his patients...

Dr. Metz and his staff are awesome. I had questions before my surgery and he took the time to answer them. I even asked him a personal question of why he wanted to do this type of surgery and he explained his reasons why. All that with a passion in his voice and a smile on his face.

As of today (Feb. 1, 2010) I only have two more pounds to goal.

Fantastic Doctor and Office!

Start Weight: 280lbs

Surgery Date: May 21, 2009

Has anyone seen Dr. Metz now that he has moved to Parker? I got paperwork from his office saying I could tranfer my care to him, but not quite sure what I am going to do. I really like Dawn with Dr. Brown's office, but Parker is closer to where I am. The woman who answer the phone for Dr. Metz office sure seemed alot nicer than what I am used to. I was just wondering if anyone had been to the new office. Hope everyone is doing well!

OK team, I am still considering if this is the option for me and Dr Metz (parker Office) seems like the closest/best surgeon but I am yet to meet with him - or make the big decision. Any advice or thoughts?? I am inspired by your stories and interactions... Loads of thanks in advance!!

Broooke,

Sorry so long in the reply. Dr Metz seems to be a good doctor. I was just sort of taken aback by a couple of things he has said to me. He did not do my original surgery, I had a different surgeon who left the state and arranged for him to take over his patients. I think I will stick with Dr Brown, even though I am a lot closer to Parker than to PSL.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying anything about his medical skills, everyone who I know who he has operated on has been very happy with him. Could just be me.....

This was the BEST thing I could have EVER done for myself. I am a year out. I celebrated my year on May 21st.

I've lost 125lbs. I hit my goal weight in January 2010 and I continued to lost a bit more.

I am steady at 155lbs and I am at my sweet spot for my fill as well.

I live in Westminster and I WILL make sure I go to see Dr. Metz WAY>>>>>> down in Parker because I love my Dr.

Dr. Metz was not like the other doctors I met. He took the time to talk to me, he smiled at me, listened to my concerns and even answered a couple of personal questions.

I did not want to be "just another patient" so I decided Dr. Metz is for me.

He is using my "Before and After" photos in his seminars now. I LOVE IT!

So....do your research, make sure you are happy with your doctor, make sure you are ready for this in your head...REALLY READY, because it's hard work. It's not a magic pill but for me....I could NEVER go back.

Best money I ever spent. I was self pay.

I had my surgery in January of 2011 with Dr. Metz (and I drove up there from the Springs) and it was the best decision I

could have ever made in my life! He is accepting, understanding and considerate! The office staff is just as wonderful

as well and I will be eternally grateful to him for the help he has given me!

Talk about a God send at the right time!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
