December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for December 9th with Dr. Kuri in Mexico. My insurance wont cover it and because I have a lower BMI the surgeons I talked to didn't want to do the surgery at all. I'm excited but really nervous.

I can't officially say I will be banded in Dec, but I am hoping I am. I have one hospital test left to complete otherwise I have done everything requested of my insurance. My surgeons office told me their goal is to get me in before Christmas but it will depend on the last test and insurance. Could someone please give me instructions on how to put a weight ticker as my signature? Thanks a bunch and good luck everyone! =)

Hi,

I'll be starting my two weeks pre-op diet on Wednesday, and then having my surgery on December 2nd, so I guess that makes me a Dec. Bandster. I'm also 50 years old and suspect that I will weigh-in at about 280.

I'm running the gamit of emotions reading all these messages but I guess that's par for the course.

I'm in with all of you. My surgery date is December 3rd and I start my liquid diet on Nov. 30th! I am extremely nervous, but know that this is what I haved decided to do. I wrestled with this for 2 years and this is it! My insurance is covering it 100% and I'm going for it. I will be banded in Denver, CO with Dr. Matthew Metz. www.coloradobariatric.com Had my lapband class this past Wednesday (Veteran's Day). Many blessings to all of you in your journey's.

12/3/09 Lap Band gal here! Had my first appt with my surgeon today. Par for the course: I should have met with him a month or two ago but the front desk girls at my practice are (bless their hearts) soooooooooooooo inadequate. My surgery date has already been set for 12/3 so I should have met my surgeon before today but it's ok. My husband went with me today and we both had all our questions answered. I have another pre-op appt with him next Friday, as well as one more round of blood work and my pre-surgical appt at the hospital. It really is a weird feeling! I have dreamed/contemplated/ pondered/wondered about this surgery for so many years and now it looms less than 3 weeks away. I might have a tinge of anxiety regarding the surgery itself, but my decision regarding the lap band is firm; backed with my heart and soul's support. I'm so grateful for each of you......I need a team!

Please let me know how you all are doing!

Suzy

Welcome all newcomers to this thread! Being a teacher, I tend to educate myself on anything and everything. I heard of a book about the surgery and decided to check it out from the local library. I just started it but it looks right up our alley. The name:

Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully

Robert Sewell M.D., F.A.C.S. & Linda Rohrbough

ISBN# 978-1-60094-002-6

You can also order it on Amazon. Hope this is of some help to all of you. We want to really support each other during this time. We can share books, recipes, etc. here on this thread just for us!! Have a great day!

I have been scheduled for surgery on December 2nd as well! Just started my pre-op diet and have been drinking the smoothie King gladiator drink with strawberry and pineapple - it makes it go down a lot easier!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
