broken stitches and bruises?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone so two days ago I got the lapband surgery and went home the next day. Today 2 days later I went back to work. I work as a teacher and dont have to move much the whole day. While sitting in one of my classes my belly button ( which has stitches going up it on the inside of it on either side of it, if that makes sense) felt a little pain. After class I looked and there was some blood on my bandage and I think i broke a stitch. An hour later after sitting down again I looked it again without taking the band aid off and all of the sudden there was a dark reddish area about half the size of of a dollar bill under my belly button. It doesn't hurt and it doesnt look like a bruise really but it wasnt there an hour ago. Any advice or ideas of what this is just let me know.

Thanks

I suggest you call your doctor at once! Don't fool around with this.

I agree with Lolly. Call your doctor. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Stitches are tough. You probably didn't break a stitch but one probably did pull and cut into skin which caused the bleeding. That, in turn created the hematoma under the skin. I'm betting your doc is going to want to see it to make sure all is okay, so call him!

well I contacted my doctor and he doesnt seem too concerned says it can happen sometimes. I am going in on Sunday to see him to get some of my stitches out and he will look at the spot then. It has gotten lighter in colour. Now it just looks like a big birthmark. I just dont understand how it formed so far ( in less then an hour). At least it doesnt hurt. I am debating on taking a photo of it and emailing it to him as I live 2 hours from where he works and unless it is a big emergency I cant see him until the weekend. Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe I was pushing myself too hard as I had the surgery on a Saturday and went back to work on Monday.

The night after my surgery the stitches where my port was placed came completly open. I was terrified when I looked down and saw all the blood. I was still in the hospital because I had an allergic reaction to the hepurin shot. It looked worse than it really was. The nurse and doctor just helped me change my gown and bedding and put a new bandage on. My advice is to just take it very easy. Good Luck on your journey

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
