Is This Normal--Banded Today

Recommended Posts

I got banded today. Was doing really great, I thought--although I was definitely sore I was having no trouble walking (took a walk around the block even) and was having occasional gas pains that went to my left 'front' shoulder as opposed to my back.

Then, about 9-10 hours after the surgery, I hit a wall. Significant pain around belly button. Difficulty moving at all. Is it normal for pain to get worse? Did they give me something to numb it and that has worn off?

I have been taking the pain meds every 4 hours. Did I do too much?

Also--was anyone else out there hungry immediately after surgery? I was hungry in recovery and have had no trouble drinking quickly today.

A little worried--thanks for your replies.

Yes it's normal, but if it is excruciating you may want to call and get a different pain med. As long as you didn't lift anything, walking is GOOD for you, not bad. The more you walk, the better you should feel and the faster you'll heal.

And yes I was starving from the moment I woke up pretty much until 3 weeks later when I finally got mushies! Some are swollen and not hungry, others (like us) don't have that issue! :sneaky:

Try bracing your abdomen with a pillow when you stand, and take it easy this evening. If your pain doesn't improve or gets worse, call your surgeon.

Congrats on your new band and journey. People have different pain levels and different areas that are affected. I had minor discomfort but had difficulting bending over when I used the restroom. Most of are fortunate to have friends to help us after the surgery so take the pain meds as prescribed and take it easy. You did have a real surgery!

Good luck!!!

hello, yes it's normal (: I didn't feel pain at all and I didn't need my pain meds. It hurt when I got up or sat down or lean back so my mom and dad helped me with that. Like someone else said, use a pillow I didn't use one much but it really helps when you walk. I wasn't hungry at all til week two strange but I was also nauseated so much my first week that I couldn't get broth down but I got Water down fine anyways keep on walking as much as you can it helps get rid of the gas and I had gas pain in my shoulder too a heating pad help get rid of it too

Hope this helps

Best of wishes! (:

Yep.. normal!!

I felt worse the day after surgery than I did the day of surgery. I think because all the anesthesia wore off. I also got gas pains but more in my stomach than anywhere else, I wanted to fart and burp but couldn't! :sneaky: I am now 9 days out and I am SO much better. It will suddenly get better day by day and then exponentially. Although this morning I was barely asleep and I stretched unconsciously and OUCHY!!!! I still feel it. I worried a bit that I may have hurt something but I probably just overstretched. It has basically subsided... hope I don't do that again!!

Best of luck to you!!! chicken broth from Soups was really good to me. My mom went to a deli and got matza ball Soup, hold the matza balls. It was good because it was homemade broth, better than canned.

Best of luck to you!!:wink2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
