Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

The only reason I don't like Tarantino movies is because I don't get them! They just woosh past my head...

Heather - that is too funny about your husband's cousin. Isn't it weird how certain ethnic groups dominate certain industries. I wonder why that is?

Jane - here is a better pic of the bubbleator

he he he... ya'll would look so hot rolling up in that thing...

WITH the actual bubbles bubbling out the back... oh yee-ay-uh... that's what I'm talking about! The Bobster will look good driving it, too!

He's always wanted to drive a Hummer. I won't tell him about the Bubbles... We'll let that be our little secret.

Had a nice, long nap today. The Bobster watched Ethan for me. Grady is here and trying to crawl all over, but not having much luck with the blanket on the hardwood floor. I'm off to rehearsal in a little bit. Nathan and Kris are meeting with the pastor about Grady's baptism in two weeks. Can't wait to hear what they say about that. This is the minister none of us has much use for.

I took some of Bob's antibiotics he got for his cut. It might just be my imagination, but I feel better.

Will check in when I get back tonight.

GO TIGERS!!! (DETROIT, that is)

Wow.. really quiet in here .. I had a nice nap this afternoon so of course I can't get to sleep tonight.

Kris and Nathan met with the minister for 20 minutes. Bob is only going to be doing one little bit of the baptism. We are not happy campers. I have a meeting today at 4 with the church budget committee. The staff has been asked to take a 10% pay cut for next year to help balance the budget. For me it is next to nothing since I am the lowest paid of the bunch, but for some it will be some bucks. And the sad part is, it's not the staff's fault. We are the ones that are keeping the church running in spite of the pastor.

Well, enough of that. It just makes my blood pressure rise whenever I think about the church.

Off to try and get some sleep. Tigers lost in the 12th inning, but they gave it a valiant effort.

Hope everyone is sleeping soundly..

Nighters!

Good Weds Morn, Vi's~~

What an exciting soccer game last night! We played an undefeated rival school and DS was the starting keeper (he's in 10th grade & there is an 11th grade varsity keeper, but DS got the call). He stopped lots of *crazy* shots that had the crowd on its feet! With just 2 minutes left, our team scored! So the last 2 minutes we're all up on our feet screaming: DEFENSE! And they won!! It was great!

I've just got work work work today!

Judy, I'm sad for you about the church. :)

Make it a great one!

Hey Girls~

Man...busy again and in full swing! I got the book Push and worked all afternoon getting my papers graded so I could read it. Well, I finally finished about 8:15ish, and started my book. OMG...not for the faint at heart. Susanne came around the corner and I was bawling (only on pg. 12 at the time). It is written in authentic Afro-American dialect...and it is hard to swallow. By the second page, you "get" the dialect...but from the story you wish you didn't. I was up at 4:15am today so I could read a bit before I worked out, it is that POWERFUL. The movie will be called Precious, and is due out in Nov. But the book is called Push, written by Sapphire, an African American poet. I can not quite recommend it due to the horrible-ness of this girls life (e.g., she goes into labor with her father's baby when she is 12 because her mother is kicking her in the stomach and face). I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS STORY.

On a brighter note...happy hump day! Hope all the girls are feeling good, enjoying life and doing their thang! I love you girls, and love popping in from work, even if I can't post.

xoxoxoxo

Good morning...

Judy, I think you got me sick! Scratchy throat and lots of congestion this morning...

How have you been feeling? You all better? Who are Grady's god-parents gonna be? Why won't the minister give Bob a bigger role in the ceremony? I'm sorry about all that mess. Why won't they boot him out??

Michelle - the game sounds exciting!! How's your daughter doing with her horse?

Pam - I'll have to pick up that book. I'm out of reading material right now and have just been reading magazines, ect. They don't hold my attention very long...

Good morning, Violets..

I didn't get up until 10 this morning. Still feel congested and coughy, but it has to break soon. This has been 4 days with this. Bob is going to go out and get me some stuff to make cream of chicken gnocchi Soup for lunch. It's that kind of a day.

Haydee... sorry I gave you my crud. I should have washed my hands before typing!

Michelle....so happy for your DS and his team!! Woo hoo... I can hear you screaming way over this way!!

PamELa.. I'm just finishing up reading Icy Sparks and then on to Mitch Albom's newest book. I think I've read more in the last few months than I have in ages. Will have to check into the book you're reading too.

As for the baptism. Kris and Nathan had the Godparents all picked out.. their best friends for years and years, but the husband walked out on his wife for another young chickie so they switched and asked their photographer friend and his wife to be the godparents. Strangely enough, they are the parents of the crappy husband, Brandon. Brandon still comes over to see Nathan and Amanda, his wife comes over to visit Kris, but of course, not at the same time. They have a beautiful daughter, a beautiful new home and Brandon is a PA like Nathan, but he said he wasn't happy or in love anymore so poof. MEN!!

As far as the minister is concerned, I just don't know anymore. He has fans in the church, particularly with people who have had deaths in the family or have been hospitalized. He is very good at that. He is not good at leading a church. This is the church that Bob built up over 20 years and now it's just a shadow of what it was. When Bob went to his little church after retiring from this one, he built that up too and it's still going strong with a new pastor who knows what she's doing. So it's not the church or the economy or whatever else they blame it on. It's the leadership and the vision. I've been the choir director for 25 years now and this is definitely my last year. I really feel like quitting as of today, but I can't do that to my best friend, the organist. Soooo I'll bite my tongue and continue knowing this has to come to an end soon.

Ok.. that's my rant for today. It's sad that the church is on my mind every single day and the thoughts are not good.

Off to get dressed and get the soup going. Everyone have a good day. Be good to yourselves.

Judy - I want your Soup recipe. Sounds yummy. I need soup right now. I have a can of split pea that I'm gonna try to drink...

Ahhh men. What goes through their head? Brandon needs some counseling. I don't think that there comes a day when all of a sudden you fall out of love. There must be something that that other person is bringing into your life that your wife can also bring. I can't belive men leave their wives and children behind to run off with someone new... I just don't understand that...

As far as the minister goes... I would think even his "fans" would see the state of the church and think that he has some fault in it...

I went home last night and caught up with some of my shows... Is anyone watching Survivor this season? I love love Glee and look forward to it every week. I love the songs and I love the cheerleading coach. She is awesome, LOL.

We have a set of oleanders in the front of my house that need pruning. Juan says we should do it in the spring and I say we should do it in the winter. What's the right answer?

Judy, I feel for you and your church. We had a new minister a few years ago, and I don't like him. I think that is the common theme. A lot of people have left. We have 3 but one main and two associates. I am very close with one of the associates so I wouldn't leave because of that, but when you think about it, it is a church, not a place where people are unhappy, or a lot of politicing (sp) going on.

Well today is the day, I got a call yesterday about what is going to happen today at work. All I can say is WOW!!!

Haydee how many car washes are there? That hummer is really neat!! Actually who needs a limo, after your married before the reception you can be whisked off in the bubbleator!!!!!!!

Oh well off for a fun? day!!!

Haydee... I'll post the recipe on the recipe thread. It's a little long. It's done in the pressure cooker and is rich. It's just like the chicken gnocchi Soup they serve at Olive Garden.

Janie... hope everything goes well at work today! I'm trying to figure out what WOW means!

Just talked to my friend Betsy, the organist and she said the minister will be at the budget meeting tonight and he has some things to say about the 10% cut in salary. I can guarantee it will be about his salary and not the staff's. I'm just so tired of all the drama.

Haydee, LOVE Glee and Survivor too. That Russell is so evil, he makes for great TV

Jane, wondering what WOW means too?

Judy, that sucks about your church. And that BOB can not baptize Grady. Hope it all works out for you, I know how important it is to you.

OK...back to the grind. I'd rather be reading!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
