Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Am off to one of my bf's (the one who's dd had to go to that treatment school in Utah (and who's doing great now!)) master's grad party... I made a mocha bundt cake and crab dip... mmm...

DS & dh are at another soccer game... if they win this one, then the "prize" is that they get to play for the championship @ 8am tomorrow! Um, how is THAT a prize?? :cursing:

Am wearing capris that I couldn't pull 1/2 way up earlier this year! Still a bit snug, but they're up & zipped (& I have a long peasant-type blouse over them), so I'm calling it a win!

Enjoy the day!

Wooo hoooooo, Michelle... Good for you on the capris!!! Isn't it a great feeling??

I got the side yard flower beds all cleaned out and finished the trimming. It's 85 out and I need to go take a dip in the pool, do my exercises and then float around for an hour or so. We got a nice bench for Bob's area of the garden. Now to make the platform for it. We're looking at tile for that one.

Had Cereal and 1/2 banana for Breakfast and a sandwich with light chips for lunch. Total so far is 7.5 points. That gives me 13.5 points for supper and Snacks. Off to have a WW red velvet cake bar... that's only 1 point and is VERY yummy.

Good morning, Violets..

Hope everyone has a great day today. We're headed to Kris's for a cook out later today. Bob is going to pick up some bushes today to plant by our pool fence. We decided to do that instead of putting in a whole new fence. He just has to repair the gate on the fence that's there now. Much easier...

Off to find some breakfast and get busy making potato salad for this afternoon.

Everyone enjoy!!!

Hello.

Major studying today, an auction house here in St. Louis is auctioning off some paperweights, and I am hoping to get some really good deals to sell and make some money.

Hopefully this week I will get to see them in person and then the 12 and 13th I will bid on them. God works in mysterious ways, and just when I need the money, this happens.........

Ds's team won yesterday, so we were up @ 5:30am this morning for the championship game... which they won! Yay team!

Then went to the diner for brunch... had something I haven't had in years... eggs & corned beef hash! Mmmmmm.

MIL died just 2 months ago and last night FIL called with some wacky plan to sell the house & move in with someone named "Pam" whom we've never heard of... so we've now got that to deal with, ugh. Will the weirdness ofthis year never end?

Damn, my secret is out...leaving Sus and moving in w/ Michelle's FIL!

Oh my gosh, didn't even put that together, I'm so discombobulated! So funny!! I wish it were you! Rather than someone he says he's been friends w/for 29 years -- and yet no one has ever heard of her! We're just worried for him -- that he's moving too fast, making rash decisions, and getting screwed financially, etc.

That, and I'm worried about my poor dh, who really doesn't do well w/emotions... so far this year his mom was sick, then dying, then dead; he's really frustrated w/his work; and now he's losing the only home he's ever lived in/known for 47 years. I'm afraid he's going to pop!

And with that... gee, all of you have a good day!

Good morning, Violets..

Michelle.. so sorry to hear of all the troubles going on. Bob says that happens much more with men than women. Men have a hard time being alone, especially the older ones. My grandfather planned to marry 6 months after my grandmother died to a woman he had been friends with that I had never heard of. We met her once and she was a lovely lady. Unfortunately my grandfather died in surgery 6 months after my grandmother died of ALS, so obviously there was no wedding.

I understand what you're going through, and it is tough.

We're always here for you to vent if you need to.

I'm off to the ortho in an hour to see about my knee. Hope I can get some relief.

Everyone have a good day. I'll check back in later.

Hey Girls~

95 today, 109 Sat, 110 on Monday! SUMMER IS HERE!! I am kinda glad, it has been a breezy and cool spring.

Purple power to your family Michelle. Tough times and I imagine DH is having a bad time.

Judy, hope all goes well w/ the ortho. Keep us posted.

Janie, how was the play?

This oil spill makes me sick...just literally nauseated.

What is up Laura and Haydee???

OK...regular teaching day (figured out what I am doing this am at 4:30!) then I have the National Board Honors dinner! Should be fun.

I will be tracking food today...kinda f'd up all weekend. After that 3 lb gain, I just self sabotaged myself to death this weekend. Wish I had 1/2 the resolve I have professionally in terms of weight loss.

Make it a great day!

Well, the news is as I expected. Total knee replacement. Will be done after the 20th of June, probably looking at early July. 6 weeks of therapy after that and 12 weeks before I start feeling like I have a normal knee again. Will have to go for a total unfill before the surgery and that scares me. But it's got to be done. Doc said it is bone on bone in the knee. It's too far gone to do anything else but replacement. sighhhhhhhhh the ravages of old age...

Off to get a couple of gifts, then some mulching and then pool time.

Everyone have a great day. PamELa... count those points!! I just had a great 5 point lunch... 1 slice regular bread, 6 slices deli shaved ham, 1/2 Tomato slice, 1 T. Miracle Whip, 1 cup of fresh corn and 10 Lay's light chips. I'm stuffed and still have 15 point left for the day. (didn't have any breakfast today.. my bad).

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
