Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Good morning, Violets..

Back from my volunteer shift at the hospital. They gave me a gift certificate to Little Caesar's pizza for a holiday gift. arghhhhhhhh

Oh well, it's the thought that counts.

After the support group meeting on Saturday, I had new resolve to get my head back in the game. Remember when I said I'd lose 10# by Thanksgiving?? Well, that came and went and I gained instead of lost. It's all the Cookies, cupcakes, candy and ice cream. When I pb real food, I figure the only thing I can eat is junk. Not a good habit. I weighed in today and am dangerously close to 190 and I swore I would never go back there again. Soooooooooo no sweets this week. That's my immediate goal. The Bobster is in the same boat so we'll keep watch over each other.

Suzy....sorry about the band issues and the job. Hopefully both will work out for you soon.

Haydee.. I use 1/3 pork and 2/3 beef in the pasties. The pork adds moisture. They were the best pasties I've had in a long time. Kris makes an awesome crust.

Ethan arrives in an hour so I'm gong to go get some exercise in before he gets here. Everyone have a great day.

I have a special meeting with the church board and staff today before the regular board meeting. I'm really tired of all the run around and tiptoeing around the pastor issue. But with Bob at his new church starting in January, I have an excuse to finish up my time there and resign in June.

Happy Holiday to All

Once again this Holiday season I've been besieged with so many requests for my famous Tequila Christmas Cake recipe that I'm sending it along. This is a wonderful recipe for a cake you can use in entertaining relatives, friends or total strangers for Christmas, New Year's Eve or for that fact any other occasion!!

Have a happy and safe holiday and remember - please eat responsibly.

Tequila Christmas Cake

1 cup water

1 tsp. baking soda

1 cup sugar

1 tsp.. salt

1 cup of brown sugar

Lemon juice

4 large eggs

Nuts (walnuts, or pistachios are perfect)

1 bottle tequila

2 cups dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality. (I already sampled it.....several times to check the quality)

Take a large bowl, check the tequila again.

To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat.

Turn on the electric mixer.

Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.

Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point its best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup...just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.< /span>

Pick the frigging fruit up off the floor.

Mix on the turner.

If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something.

Check the tequila.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.

Don't forget to beat off the turner.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window.

Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

CHERRY MISTMAS!

Hehehe, oldie but a goodie!

Turkey waffles were alright, much more work than it was worth. Ended up kind of like chicken n dumplings, but with turkey. Russ liked it, so ta-da. I was trying to find some sort of special b'fast for us for xmas day, this isn't gonna be it. Lot of work and just a decent result.

Andes Cookies were a hit, everyone ate all 4 dozen at the cookout yesterday.

We didn't take our choco chip cookies, those were for Russ, he ate a whole big plateful last night, yeesh.

I haven't made the cookies *I* like yet, for all my 'tester' cookies, since I'd end up eating them.

Just the recipe I was looking for!

Good afternoon, Vi's~~

Well, ds's team came in 2nd, after a hard-fought game in driving freezing rain & a field of mud. What a cold, wet weekend!! We went to our friends' house & he took a long, hot shower, then we headed home... stopped for dinner... & got home around 9:30pm last night. Phew. Here's the pic after the final game (ds is the one in the back row, middle, in the black underarmour):

post-50010-13813670000969_thumb.png

Today I've just been trying to gather my thoughts about what needs to happen between now and Xmas... my goal is to have all shopping done by Fri, wrap over the weekend, and clean/cook next week. Oh yeah, and bake... pretty much every day. Ay yai yai!

I'm not really feeling the spirit of the season yet... maybe when I'm baking w/Xmas music on... it's been too much rush rush and not enough "reason for the season" for me.

Well, onward & upward! Enjoy the eve.

I have a leak in my band. I had been telling the doc since February that something was wrong -- in August he finally agreed with me. Took me until October to convince him that Omnipaque would work and I was waiting on the consent form. Then he called and said the lawyers for the hospital won't allow it.

Haydee, I may end up seeing if Dr. Spivak can (will) see me. It would be cheaper to fly to Houston than to replace the band at this point -- never mind that my 'new' insurance will not cover WLS. I have had this 'new' insurance since last October (had surgery in June w/ BCBS) and they have reversed every payment they already made for fills and flouro. I now owe the band doc $1800+. There should be a rule that if the insurance company pays for it initially, they cannot reverse the payment.

I'm hoping that all of our situations get better in 2010, but I am not quite sure that that will happen. I am hearing of more and more people getting laid off.

I hear Mary Poppins on TV -- I may just have to watch it. Talk to you later!!

Susie, so sorry to hear this...I can't believe that about reverse payments. I'd say "oh well" but you need your doc! What a mess. Here is to a 2010 that is better suited for you! Where do you live?

I NEED A RECEIPE FOR A COOKIE EXCHANGE PARTY NEXT MONDAY. I have to make 6doz cookies...and dont have a clue. I MIGHT make sopapilla cheesecake and cut it into small "cookie size" pieces.

Let me know if you have an EASY cookie receipe...key word is easy!

Off to grade the last 6 papers!

I have an easy easy cookie I will put the recipe on the thread. It is really super easy and everyone loves them, they taste like candy!!

Susie, that sucks about the band.

If I was a better bandster I would not be looking at all the weight I have regained!! I spent $12,000 on nothing! Plus all the extras fills and stuff keep adding to that. Oh well, I think deep down I thought I wouldn't have to work that hard! WRONG!!!

Okay tomorrow starts my work week, it is the last full week for me before Christmas! Scary thought!!........

Good morning, Violets..

Lots of snow on the ground this morning. Glad I don't have to go anywhere until 11. Then its off to the church for a chapel service. My friend Betsy and I will be playing Christmasy flute duets for the service.

Ethan isn't coming today so the Bobster and I have the day to ourselves. Might have to make a batch of fudge for gifts. We were planning on doing that Friday, but today might be even better with no little helper!

Still trying to shake this darn cough. I had a coughing jag last night about 3 a.m. and got back to sleep about 4. Seems ok now. I'm watching all the doves in the bird feeders. They don't leave much room for the smaller birds, but they're beautiful to watch.

Off to get some Breakfast and get dressed for the day.

Everyone have a great one!!

Good Morning Girls~

Judy, I am glad you are pleased. I went back and forth on getting you a gift card...but thought you'd REALLY like it and REALLY use it! I also mailed something more personal too...in the mail yesterday heading your way!

I was SOOOO tired yesterday. OMG...I had a mtg at 7, duty at 7:20, big observation at 8, work all day, mtg at 2, mtg at 3 (City). I cancelled our dinner plans w/ Rob and Charles! I came home w/ a headache, drank a beer, ate some chips and salsa...then felt better. Graded papers, read the Kindle (still on Wishin' and Hopin') then went to BED.

Today, I am coming home at 2 and getting all xmas cards done, then hopefully getting them in the mail today too. I've never been this late...ususally I have them out the Monday after Thanksgivign!

Thanks for the cookie receipe Janie...I'll print it out from work!

Laura,

My Mom and my brother Carl make a egg casserole for Christmas morning -- I am usually at one of their homes for Christmas, so I don't make it much, but I do love it.

2 cups plain croutons

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

4 eggs slightly beaten

2 cups milk

sausage (I use most of 16 oz Jimmy Dean sausage roll)

1/2 tsp salt

1/8 tsp onion powde

dash of pepper

Grease the bottom of a 10 x 6 x 1 1/2 pan. Combine croutons and cheese in the bottom of the pan, pour remaining items (already mixed) into pan. Can prepare night before and leave in refrigerator until morning.

Bake 50 - 60 minutes at 325'

YUM!!

Pamela -- I do have some cookie recipes, but they all require a cookie press. Let me know if you want them!

I live in North Carolina.

Happy cooking!!

Suz

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
