6 Months Out of Surgery - Need Help

Recommended Posts

I am 6 months out of surgery. Have lost about 49 pounds since my journey began. I don't have any side effects except for a major one. hair Loss

I am still losing hair and it does not look like it will stop any time soon. It is by the hand fulls all day every day. I am seeing bald spots, which is not good. I have always had extremly thick hair..

Could I be doing somethign wrong? This has me really upset..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want it to stop or at very least slow down. I will be shopping for wigs instead of new cloths!! lol :frown:

It wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor in case you have a hair disease called Alopecia.

Are you getting 60 or more grams of Protein every day? I, too, am losing a lot of hair but no bald spots. I started taking Biotin. Anything you do may take 3 months to start working because of the hair cycle. If you use the search function you will find there are many good threads on Hair loss with lots of good suggestions.

Best wishes.

Mimi

Hi:

I've heard that increasing your Protein intake should help. I've also heard that it doesn't help everyone. Mine was falling out for a couple of months (not bad though, only noticable to me in the shower drain), but it did finally stop, and it did eventually go back to normal. It did take a bit of time though.

I hope yours starts to grow back soon.

Sue

There are many different anecdotes to curtail hair loss, including Protein intake. I personally had more than my required Protein intake daily since day 1 so the protein theory was not my issue; don't know what was. I had the exact same problem, but it has just recently began to stop (8+ months out for me).

My doctor told me that Hair loss at 4-6 months out from surgery (most surgeries) is normal because of the shock to the body.

The good news is that he also told me that when the thinning/fall out stops, your hair will grow back thicker and quicker than pre-surgery. My hair is very long and thick, so I'm not looking forward to the "thicker" part, but every doctor and person for that matter, has an opinion on this and it's different for everyone I'm sure.

Don't worry, you will be fine. My hair loss lasted about 8 weeks or so, which is what my Dr indicated. Hang in there, no wigs, just new clothes!:frown:

I am experiencing the same thing. It started right at 4 mos. post-op. Protein is not the issue for me as I get the right amount daily.

I don't buy into the stress of surgery school of thought either since I've had other surgeries and never lost my hair.

I believe it has to do with a decrease in fat consumption so I began taking flax seed oil last week. I started on Biotin a few weeks ago.

I here it's only temporary so hang in there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
