At 19 days since surgery it depends on what your doctor has you on. Are you back to full diet or supposed to be on mushies? If you are back to mushies... there are things on the chinese menu that you could do. There are lots of dishes that have a fair amount of sauce, like almond chicken, if you were to take the breading off the chicken and cut it very small and use the gravy, and chew really really well that could become mushie... This is a long term process and you have to understand that there are times when your food does not match up to others... On pizza I doubt at 19 days that it would be a good choice. Sesame chicken is probably not a good choice, but think about small amounts of b b que pork with a sauce, ask for a side of either sweet and sour or the almond gravy they use for almond chicken. Also do you like any vegetables? Hang in there it does get easier...

Do you like tofu? I just ordered Chinese the other day and everything on the menu they could make with tofu (and since I don't eat red meat or chicken this was helpful). I ended up getting sesame tofu (like sesame chicken but with tofu instead) and I asked for it steamed (or fresh...also means the same thing) instead of fried. Delicious. And I don't eat the rice. I just ask them not to include it or I give it to someone else. If you're on mushies, tofu is a great, healthy, protein-rich thing to eat. Good luck!

It IS harder in the first, say, 3 weeks when you're still transitioning all the way back to a fully normal diet.

What are you allowed now? Are you eating mushy food? Are you already to "real" food?

Mushy food, let's see....I had egg drop Soup. I just really chewed up the mushrooms and stuff that was in mine.

Real food....Let's face it, pizza can be a little daunting. I only eat THIN crust and have no problems with that. A slice or maybe 2 at the most, though.

Remember, Erin, the band is not not meant as punishment. You should be able to eat almost anything. The key is take small bites (about the size of a nickel) and chew well. Then just use good judgment when you make your choices ... like grilled instead of fried, etc.

If I have chinese, I have chicken Egg Foo Yung... it's essentially scrambled egg / omlette with beansrouts, mushrooms and chicken... very yummy and very low fat, and if you're still on mushies - dead easy to eat.

Quick note .... tofu doesn't have much taste of its own. It's firm, soy Protein, smooth texture...and it tastes like whatever you cook it in. My fave Mexican restaurant offers beef, chicken and tofu .... and the tofu is marinated and cooked with Mexican spices and it tastes like, you guessed it! Mexican food.

I've had tofu with vegetables from Chinese and it tastes like the sauce.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
