Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!

Steph I feel your pain with the teenager I have been called many names , horrible horrible things said to me. I am lucky in the sense they have never done or are doing drugs and the drinking and etc. My issues lie with the attitudes. Court has really started to come out of hers the past couple of months. I believe she is human again! Good luck and I am here for ya. The kids dad is deceaswd and my hubby is in no way a father figure or even another adult figure in the house. Leaves everything to me! I have called the cops to 'set the kids straight' and tell them who the law says is in charge before. I have to say that did have some effect.

DD and I went for all testing today. She is totally cleared for surgery. She then starts talking to dr as he is doing my fill about rouxen Y. We had talked about this before due to the fact that I worry when she goes off my insurance if she doesn't have a job that offers ins she will have to pay for fills and etc out of pocket. He gave us a lot of facts and info and told her it has to be her choice. I totally see Y she is thinking the other way because less visits and cost but I am scared shitless. She is approved for either or so she is thinking and researching before making a decision. I told her I will not tell her what to do but gave her my opinion on both. I have several friends who have had it and do wonderful but she is my little girl and I worry about it. I will support the decision that she makes. I just want her to be successful happy and healthy with this surgery. I will keep you all updated.

Well time to go read and take my new little yorkie puppy potty. Still miss my little yorkie who passed in March but I am happy to have another little one as well. Seems we were just not complete without 3 yorkies.

Goodnight all!

Jackie, Roux-n-Y bypass surgery is so permanent though... for a young woman who hasn't had her children yet, I think I'd opt for LAPBAND (which you can let out during pregnancy) or the Gastric SLeeve... the GS is great as it dosn't reroute your bowels and cause Vitamin defincianie's... less invasive surg. than Roux_n-Y bypass, but it does not require after care adjustments like the band...JMHO for what its worth.

AND NOW FOR MY FAVORITE!!!

Husband and wife are waiting at the bus stop with their nine children. A

blind man joins them after a few minutes. When the bus arrives, they

find it overloaded and only the wife and the nine kids are able to fit

onto the bus. So the husband and the blind man decide to walk. After a

while, the husband gets irritated by the ticking of the stick of the

blind man as he taps it on the sidewalk, and says to him, 'Why don't you

put a piece of rubber at the end of your stick? That ticking sound is

driving me crazy.' The blind man replies, 'If you had put a rubber at

the end of YOUR stick, we'd be riding the bus, so shut up."

Peaches I am so in agreeance with you. I am scared as HELL of her doing this. We have been talking alot about all surgeries and I had done mega research on both before I had mine so she is aware of all of this. She is waying her options but still leaning towards rouenY. I want her to do LB but I have to support her with the choice that she makes. Lord help me before I lose my mind with this!!!

She is on day 2 of the liquid diet. 13 more days to go with nothing but liquids. So far she has done very well. Cried yesterday and had a melt down. I am doing the liquids with her as support. This is HELL!!! I HATED it when I did it and had no one to do it with me. I am doing this as a support for her. Wish me luck and ALL words of excouragement are welcome and appreciated!

Hey Jackie; let her know that the liquid diet pre=surgery is VERY important to the success of her surgery. The liquid diet SHRINKS the LIVER prior to surg. therefore the LIVER will not be so fatty and large as the SURGEONS have to lift it out of the way to do the stomach surgery... this is the reason for the liq diet... so perhaps if she understands WHY it will make it easier to be compliant.

Also, this is a New Lifestyle EATING PLAN she is embarking on. The surgery is not the be-all end-all of weight loss. Everyone on this site can tell you the surg. is only the FIRST step... weight loss comes from consistently EATING HEalthier... forever...

I myself spent a whole year at 178, screwing around with my food, eating small portions yes, but a lot of the WRONG foods, and we lapbanders ALL know that SLider foods, junk, sugar foods go right on thru the band.. even when we have PERFECT restriction.

I am now back to counting calories, carbs, fibre & protien daily... its the only way I stay accountable... dah and then guess what? I started to lose again...

It ain't easy. I don't always like it. But somedays I do liquids for breaky and lunch and then have solid food for supper... I try and stay busy, as when I am bored.... I eat!!

Why does she like th sound of Roux-n-Y over Gastric Sleeve? I am just curious:confused:

The dog stepped on my mouse and I lost my post.

so here is the condensed version.

If I were to do it again, I'd go with the sleeve, but I'm 50 and already have kids. She should check out the pregnancy link on LBT.

Bypass isn't easy, check out Al Roker (sp) on the

Today Show. He has lost weight, but isn't a twig. It still requires good food choices and Portion Control.< /p>

Took my DD#2's lab and the swimming doxi to the river, they are plum tuckered out. AND extrememly gasy as they had eggs for Breakfast as a treat.

Going into town to do some shopping. Hope i can find a couple of shirts for a reasonable price.

Candice that dress is worth EVERY penny. It is just stunning!!!

Peaches I am not sure if you remember me. I am a lucky number 7 as well. I had lapband in July of 2007. I was one of the first members of the lucky number 7's and stopped visiting the thread close to a year ago. Before that I was on here faithfully. I have kept in contact with some through email and Facebook.

I researched rouxen Y and banding before I did surgery for a little over a year before approaching my doctor with it. My I printed so many things on both and made 3 inch binders with all of my information and highlighted and ect. You would have thought I was in school or researching to PERFORM those surgeries. LOL I have been very successful with the band. I have lost 108 lbs and kept it off.

During this time we also tried to get my daughter approved for surgery but do to her age she was denied twice. She researched on her own and also went through my binders. She is well informed of BOTH surgeries. After visiting with the surgeon on 4 different occassions and visting with BOTH lapband and rouxen Y patients she really wants the Rouxen Y. I would prefer that she do the band but as the surgeon told me.....it is her choice. I really want her to be banded but I can not make that choice for her so I will support her in whatever she choices.

As far as the liquid diet.........she knows very well what that is all about. She watched me and she is currently doing it as well. She knows the reason and importance of it. I remember when I was preparing for surgery and we all discussed pre op requirements from our docs I had the longest liquid diet (as does my daughter). We had/have to do TWO FULL weeks prior to surgery, 2 full weeks after surgery of nothing but liquids and then mushies for 4 weeks.

Our surgeon does not do the sleeve. Our insurance will not cover the sleeve. The cover these 2 surgeries.

Thank you for all the info you gave as well as the web site. I have showed her the post and she wrote it down.

Pregnancy and babies was also a discussion we have had several times with the doctor and she got to meet a women who has had rouxen Y that is now a serogate (sp?) for others and has had 3 children for other couples. I am honestly not saying this is the way to go I am just being supportive of her choice. She knows the expectations and what happens if she doesn't follow them. I like my band because I was starting to eat more again and just got a fill yesterday when we were there. She watched how they do the fill and then we talked about if she does the rouxen Y 2 years from now she will not be able to get 'adjustments' she has to be ready to take accountability for her food choices. You are right there are some people who have failed at rouxen Y but there are as well many who fail at the band. Our surgeons nurse talked with me because a while back I was having problems and gained a few pounds back and I was so upset and crying and etc. She told me of a patient who is bigger now than before she had the band. It is ALL, no matter what surgery you have, accountability.

Thank you for your input as well. I am freaking out about her surgery choice and I came back to the lucky 7's for support. The band was the right choice for me but she really feels it is not for her. She is thinking about the cost if she has to go off of my insurance and does not have health insurance for a while. That is a very viable and responsible thought. THat is a concern.

Ok day 2 of liquids with Courtney. I actually made something pretty good. She is supposed to have 2 cups of Tomato juice or orange juice (for potassium) each day, beef or chicken broth, Water Jello, sf popcycles (2 per day). Have to make sure she gets at least 30 grams of Protein prior to surgery and 65-70 post op. Anyway, I took 2 cups tomato juice, 1 cup of beef broth, chili powder and black pepper to taste. IT IS SOOOOO GOOD!!!! Chili without the Beans and burger. I am really liking this! Have to remember this for the cold winter!

Jackie--Fabulous pic! Good for you! I am so impressed that you're doing the liquid diet with Courtney. With that kind of support, she'll do well no matter what. She's a lucky girl for sure.

Guess what everyone?! Andy and Penny called this afternoon to ask us if we could watch Cora for awhile while they went shopping for a new stove. Of course, I said "Yes!" Well, when they got back, Andy asked Mel if he'd make Margritas, but he made a point of saying that Penny didn't want one--just him. Yup! Looks like Cora's going to be a big sister in May!!! I'm so happy--I have tears in my eyes as I'm telling you. They don't want anyone else here to know till after she goes to the dr in a couple of weeks, but they said I could tell my LBT friends.

Wow! Jackie, You look GREAT!!

So sweet of you to do the liquids with your daughter!

Certainly understand her choice... too bad insurance doesn't pay for the sleeve. That'd probably be my choice if I had it to do over. I think in a few years it will be more accepted and insurance companies will start paying for it.

Lindaa first off CONGRATS GRANDMA!!!! I am so happy for you!

Thank you for the compliment on the pics too. Encouraging hearing others who don't see me.

Court and I walked 4 miles tonight. That girl is determined I tell u. SOOO proud of her!

Phyl thank you also for encouragement on the liquids. Thankfully I have a recent fill and FINALLY have restriction after the last 5 months. He has been filling me really slow due to to much, PA totally unfilled, waited 2 weeks and filled again, too much and etc etc etc. Same deal 4 times so we have been going VERY slow with the fills. Have restriction now but not as restricted as need be. I go back in 3-4 weeks for another fill.

I agree with you about the sleeve. I really do love my band but I would have prob done that if I could have. Oh well I am happy with the band, even despite the past few months, and so happy to be where I am today.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What great news. Just what you needed to cheer you up.

Jackie - it kind of sound like DD wants bypass cause it is easier. She's young and let's face it, when you're young, who wqnts to work hard. I just hope she realizes that just about everyone I know who has had that surgery loses really fast, looks fantastic (sounds good , doesn't it?) and then after about a year, starts putting the lbs back on. If you aren't careful, you're back where you started and then what do you do? One of my dear friends who has had it done, (almost 3 yrs ago) still has problems with bowels. In fact, just a couple weeks ago, while running an errand, she had to go home and shower, wash her clothes and clean out her car cause she had an unavoidable "accident". (yep, the stinkeria)

Okay, now it's time for me to be honest here. I've been doing so bad. I am pretty sure I dojn't need a fill and it is just about what I eat. Last nite, I was a bottomless pit. I couldn't eat enough. And yes, the scale is creeping back up. So, I have decided that come Monday.............I am back on the program. My jeans are getting snug but they still fit. And I refuse to get a larger size. So, unless I want to go around in my underwear (and I'm popping out of my bras) and forget about that Tummy Tuck DM is popping for......I have got lose these pounds. So, say a prayer for me that I can do it and stick with it. Here is my cell # 734-904-8616. If I skip two days posting here, call me and give me hell. Kick my butt........whatever. I AM GOING TO DO THIS. A-G-A-I-N.

Kirajh I don't think she wants the easy way....I think she wants out like all of us did. I know that we all decided that the band was right for us but that doesn't make it right for everyone. I know many people who have also had rouxen Y and have been successful and others have failed.....just as is the case with the band. I don't think ANY weight loss surgery is EASY!

I am sorry this is mho.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
