September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Had the CT scan today and endoscopy on Tues. Good news is that my doc rescheduled the surgery on Wed as long as everything checks out. She will remove the tumor and place the lapband (I hope!) It isn't pleasant to wake up and hear, "You didn't get a lapband". Fingers crossed for me!

I did some follow up to the pre-op tests to check on a nodule that was found on a lung. When I got back home, I had a message that my lung is fine, and surgery is still on! I didn't think I would know the results until Monday. That's really nice patient care!

I've never had one of the scans where they put an IV in to add some dye to check things. The test was just a few minutes.

I appreciate all of you that are post surgery keeping in touch. I hope everyone keeps posting whether the news is good or bad.

I'm down 25 lbs since July 10th, still need to follow a one week liquid Meal Replacement plan with a few vegetables okay to add.

Anita

I'm so happy to hear the great news.:)

Hi Everyone - I had surgery on Tuesday Sept 1 and it went very well. I had to have a surprise hyetal (sp?) hernia fixed as well. I felt sluggish and uncomfortable for 2 days and have picked up nicely since then. I was actually able to walk on the treadmill at a slow speed yesterday. I find I nap once of 2x a day and that really helps. I have also slept fairly well at night. I did take the tylenol with codeine my doctor prescribed consistently the first 3 days. I'm glad it is over, but it certainly wasn't anything to fear. Having a great support system really helps. Good luck to everyone having surgery this coming week.

Man, today is 4 days post-op and I feel so bloated. I don't really have gas pain but feel really full and I feel like my stomach is puffy. I am moving around a lot and feel pretty good. Tomorrow I start full liquids, and I really need it because I am weak from the Clear Liquids stage. Take care all.

Day 4 post-op: I'm moving around well. Maybe a little slow. I feel like if I walk to fast or do any abrupt movements I could open one of the incisions. School started, so I had a 9am class this morning. I found it hard to sit through the entire three hours. The desk was right were one of the incisions was. Thank God he let us out early.. I then went to my dentist office where I had a temporary crown re-cemented.. My stomach was growling something awful. I didn't drink my shake when I left the house. I calmed it down with a little Isopure mixed with Sugarfree Kool-Aid. I stopped at rite aid and picked up some colace and more GasX. This is gross but, I haven't had a bowel movement since before the surgery.. Is that normal?

But, As you can see I'm feeling okay and driving out and about. I must admit I feel a little tired. I'm going to take my Vitamins and a Protein shake.. mmm maybe s sugar-free iced coffee..yummy :)

I am so glad you asked about not having a BM since before surgery!!! I havent either so am curious about others. Even though we have had only liquids, I would think that we should still be having liquid BM's. Sorry, i know that is TMI!!!:)

My instructions say that diarrhea is very normal, and Constipation common. It says to make sure and get your fluids in, and plenty of exercise. The instructions go on to say that I may try Milk of Magnesia. My nutritionist says to start a laxative before surgery to help after surgery. She suggests benefiber. My mom had some Miralax, which she said would also be okay, so I'm borrowing some of that. There must be a thread on this topic, and how many days one has gone before a bm. a poll, maybe!

I didn't have a BM until Friday, and my surgery was on Tuesday. It was pretty runny and green (but I had been eating green jello...)

I have another problem from quitting soda preop, I ended up with a fissure which is EXTREMELY painful. I'm hopeful that as things get situated, it will get a chance to heal. But I am VERY cautious to not get constipated. My doctor recommends Benefiber or one of the Water soluble Fiber things. They say that fiber pills may gum up the pouch. So, once I get a little further along, I plan to start back up my Benefiber.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
