Hospital supplies - my list is on post # 258.

I still need to think of some type of heating pad for home.

Mouth spray is in the mouthwash section, and I get the same brand moisturizing spray and wash.

I wanted to ask the nurses if they will lube our lips when we are out?! It seems like it would help a lot to have some lubrication on before we wake up. I haven't read of this being done. I do read many posters saying bring your chapstick.

I just did a brief glance at the number of us posting here. It would be interesting to have a count of September bandsters.

sounds cool. start and i'll follow. 209! Do you have to do a liquid diet? If so you are going to be under 200 before your surgery. I have lost 3 pounds since saturday! Still hoping for 10 before my surgery date.

Hey Dee, Soco, yea I had no choice on the pre-op diet. Im with Kaiser so i had to loose 10%. But I did it! Now I'm just trying to get all my supplies etc together. Bought some Soups, broth and Jello. I'm going to pick up some of the mouth spray you mentioned.

How's all the other post ops?

I think I reported this on another thread, but not here yet...I am so excited to have lost 15 lbs in one week!!!!! The first 8 were from my 3 days of Clear Liquids pre-op, then 7 lbs since surgery on Tues.

I have to say, that is freakin awesome for me, a record in my 42 years (almost) of dieting!!!! And it was almost easy, since I wasn't hungry most of the time.

Now comes the test: I have a BBQ to go to tonight, and while I am not worried about eating (I plan to bring mashed potatoes and have some for dinner), the big issue is cocktails! I am so used to drinking several glasses of wine at these things. That will not work if I want to keep up the momentum I have going. So I will have to wing it. Maybe bring some diet cranberry juice and drink that?

I am also having issues with the cocktail thing. I am a social drinker, and normally this weekend would have been a big drinking and eating weekend. Atleast we are so motivated to keep ourselves on track. Good luck to you!

Good morning everyone. Well, I got my band Friday. Everything is going awesome! I was released from the hospital on Saturday. Sunday, I was up walking around the track at a close by school. Also, went shopping for awhile and got a pedicure. I have never had a pedicure and it was nice. We also went to visit friends at the campground and sat around the fire for a couple of hours. I was a little tired when we got home. The worst part for me was a headache. I think I may have been de-hydrated. I am trying to get all the liquids down, but I am not hungry at all and I am trying to sip, sip, sip. Gas pains have been very minimal. Today I am feeling great!

Cortney - what happened to our yahoo group? I tried to go there this morning, but it says group does not exist.

What I needed the most at the hospital was carmex for my lips after surgery. I was only allowed to sip a small medicine cup of Water per hour for 6 hours after surgery. No popsicle until 6 hours later. Then the water was also up to 2 medicine cups of water. It was crazy. My mouth was sooooo dry. UGH!

Good morning all.. well tomorrow is the big day for me. I am not as nervous as I was before but the whole not being banded due to a thick liver has me worried. I didn't follow the preop to a T. But I did drink alot of slimfast and Water.

Question.. lubricant spray for the mouth? That is a new one to me...and special brands, locations where it can be purchased?

I still have no idea what my current weight is

Hope everyone has a successful day today!!

Good Luck!.. I will keep you in my Prayers.. Believe me it's not that bad.. Try going on clear liquids for the rest of the day.. Starve that liver of carbs so that it'll shrink..

Coloroado- I am ssooo feeling you with the wine thing! My family likes big Pasta meals with wine and BBQ with cold beer and boy am I missing that! I love drinking wine and something that worked for me this week was I found some no sugar apple juice and poured it in a wine glass. That gave me the filling that I was drinking and no one can tell the difference in white wine and apple juice so if you have ppl that you dont wanna explain why you are drinking too its perfect!! Good Luck at your BBQ! Congrats on the weight too!!!

Pre-op, I have to do liquid Protein Shakes, popsicles, jello but I gotta say I'm having a tough time, not because its liquid so much as with all the sweets, my weight problem didnt come from eating sweets, it's all this cajun food. :tongue_smilie:My doctor also added a Multivitamin & an extra B Complex supplement.

Post Op, is just two days of clear liquids the 2 wks full liquids, then i can start adding lean meats & veggies.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
