Slow Losers - Unite!

Welcome to the "Slow Loser" thread on LBT.

A few orders of business to begin.

First, we need to elect a leader. Someone who will voice our opinion clearly and with wisdom and humor. Our Leader will support us in our efforts and remind us of our NSV's and to not be discouraged.

I nominate - Vinesqueen. I can think of no on here on the board more eloquent and positive in her day to day outlook. (she has no idea about this, by the way - this is my own little invention - but I still think she should be our leader)

Second - we need to define "slow loser". I would propose that a slow loser is someone who is losing (or lost) less than 1 pound per week (average) during the first year of banding.

Third - Our Mission. Our Mission will be to stick together as a group. There is always strength in numbers. As we see newly banded people losing more in a month or six weeks than we have lost in 6 months to a year, we will join together and remind each other of how well we're doing. We'll chant the LBTSL ( that LapBand Talk Slow Loser) mantra of "It's not a race, it's not a race" over and over again.

Will you join me? Will you, a slow loser, a turtle in the weight loss race, make your voice heard amongst all these rabbits? Mostly will you let me know that I am not alone out here in bandland?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

  • I support the definitions and the nominee. As a slow loser, at just one more fill until my band is at it's quota, we need positive support and continual encouragement. From one turtle to another!

Blarg. I've started weighing on the scale at the gym because it has the bodyfat% readouts and whatnot. The first day I weighed it said this (10/12):

Weight: 222.2lbs

Body Fat%: 43.3%

Fat Mass: 96.2 lbs

Lean Mass: 126 lbs

Yesterday it says:

Weight: 226.8lbs

Body Fat%: 39.8%

Fat Mass: 88.6 lbs

Lean Mass: 138.2 lbs

So I have gained 12 lbs in muscle, lost 8 lbs in fat, which of course shows a 'weight gain' of 4 lbs. At first I was happy about this. Now i just want to LOSE WEIGHT. Of course, if my lean body mass is 138, that also means that at 25% body fat, I'll still be around 180. I'm hoping to at least get to 160, but who knows.

I'm just ranting, lol.

Not the dreaded "Blarg!" No! not that!

One of the things to keep in mind with these types of scales that use electrical impeedence is that your hydration level is very, very important. I can't account for the apperent weight gain

Oh I think I am the slowest loser yet......... 21 pounds since April 5th.

I would like to be part of the group, maybe we can help each other with what does work instead of what doesn't work. This week I am doing a colon cleanse, it is to clean out your intestines and flatten your stomach. I am into the 4th day and my stomach does look smaller today. I have not been on the scales but the paperwork on this says you should lose about 5 pounds and have a really clean colon. Ha Ha I will let you know how this works.

I was afraid I was alone. Everyone else seems to be losing so fast :) I was banded in July and have lost 13 measly pounds. People banded the same month as me have lost 40!!! I know, I know It's Not A Race...but blarg!!!

Anyway, I'm glad to see we can all hang together, and now I don't feel defective!!! My first fill wasn't enough, but I just got my 2nd fill today, so hopefully my restriction will be better!!! Talk to my fellow turtles soon....

What are you doing to cleanse? I'd like to do something like that...

Hey, welcome to the land of turtles everyone! We are starting to hatch this nest, aren't we? Come on turtles! Welcome home!

Thanks for the great welcome everyone! I am looking into getting another fill. Part of my problem is that there is no one here in Omaha who will fill me because I was banded in Mexico, so I have to drive to Kansas City to be filled by Dr. Stephen Malley. It's not too bad, a 3 hour drive each way, but as I'm sure with all of you, life is busy and it's hard to find a day that I can devote to the drive. That sounded really lame as I wrote it. If I can spend $10,000 on the band, can I not drive 3 hours to have a fill??? I'm going to go call right now.

Isn't it wonderful to know we are not alone!

Wow! Members are just rollin' in to our little club here! It's good to have a place where we can co-miserate and keep eachother's spirits up. I was a little down yesterday with my "blarg", lol.

:)

Please add me to this list After looking into my Journal and exercise program after 42 day's of working out ( HARD ) I only lost 3 pound"s in the last 81 day's of my journal I have only lost 23 pounds.

I figured my problem out I was over exercising! & not enough calorie's intake.

well every one take care and hope in time you will all meet your goal's. JOHNQ

Oh, to be a turtle....it is very hard for me! I want to be thin now! I get so down on everything and myself, I feel like no matter what, even having this surgery, I will always be fat :) Just having a hard day right now. Talk to you guys later...

Carrie -

Welcome! and know that we HEAR you! We're right there with ya, sister!

That's why we 'banded' together (pun intended) and started this thread to support one another in a journey, which for us, is going to a be a little longer and a little harder than it is for most bandsters.

Keep posting. We're glad you're here.

sorry John, you are definately a Rabbit! You've lost over 100 pounds so there is no way you qualify for Turtle status! Hurrah!

I did start a thread called "Winded Wabbits" specifically for you Rabbits who've slowed down and are perhaps on an extended plateau. There's been a lot of interest shown by Rabbits who would like to join our Turtle Tribe. I figured that I would start that thread so that all y'all could specifically discuss your specific issues, issues that we of the Turtle Tribe just cannot relate to. (not that we don't want to relate to them, it's just that our reality is different from yours) :)

In the last 2 and a half months, you have lost what it took me 7 months to lose :D so there is no way you are a Turtle (Yay! for you!)
